If it was like Altek Lansing speakers it wouldn't matter because those float. Can attest they are hyper resilient. Sadly floating phones are unlikely bc they are basically bricks of plastic, glass, and metal with no notable air pockets or buoyant material present.
Its the strangest thing.. I decided to finally test out my lg q7+ in the shower and soon after when i open the YT app, this is the first video being recommended
On my last phone that wasnt had ip rating, i was regulary jogging and rain started, well after one day my display become rainbow, now i have xiaomi mi 8 lite and will be very careful with it
That might be the microphone that heard this. (That also proves that Google is listening to everyone so I both taped the microphone and put a sticker on the webcam of my phone)
Rinbow 6 BR Auto-tuning to some extent of their voices, helps them to do so. The soft voices, with moderate decibels are good enough to hear for even long time.
No auto-tune here. :) But I do use a nice mic, recommended to me by SomeGadgetGuy - the AKG C414XLS. I just add a bit of treble to cut through the music. Also, I was a voiceover guy for a number of years.
Bad idea. It's possible any air causes it to burst. This can also happen if you jump into the water with a waterproof pouch. It just has a blowout and turns into a fishtank with your phone soaking in it. I found this out the hard way.
i tested a ziplock bag before by placing only the case in the bag. i only could do like 5 minutes and only 3 - 4 bags was able to keep water off the phone. and it was hard to use the phone. then i got a phone case rated at ip68 instead
Navtej Singh but why even use your phone underwater, if you want pictures underwater gopro’s exists and are also something that is advertised as take this underwater for a cool photo if your calling or actually using your phone in the water, why?
@Doctor Whos i disagree with that many people do for very mundane things now people will buy a product for everything and if your willing to bring a possibly $1k phone it's on you if it breaks because you didn't want to get a go pro for underwater
@Doctor Whos never said that but the people who own iPhones and are traveling and want to take pictures underwater they got money don’t throw words in people’s mouths
Starting your own channel was the best idea. One of the few channels that I can say I have been here from the beginning. Great video. keep up the good work.
When my phone first got water damaged, I was not in a place that I could find rice. So I decided to play PUBG for as long as the battery lasted and supporting it with a power bank (it gets pretty hot when especially playing PUBG) after I tried to evapoate the water out of the phone (I took the back cover out to make it easier) and 3 days of rice did it. Worked flawlessly until my cousin accidentally dropped it off a cliff. I never found it anymore :(
Rice doesn't help mate use silica gel and if there's leak in your phone after long time you will see damage not immediately because corosion needs time.
My Mate goes swimming every week and takes his phone every time. He owned Z5 Premium, he now has XZ2 and has never had an issue. Sony must have it nailed.I wouldn’t trust my iPhone X. Every time he puts his phone in the pool I get nervous and it’s not even my phone. Lol. It was only last week someone asked him if it’s water proof and he said it is, the boy said I don’t believe you so my mate ran it under the tap. He’s crazy! And that was a full year swimming with his phone.
My Galaxy S7 Edge was the best water “proof” phone I had. I didn’t use a case and had it underwater frequently for a few months while road tripping and it took fantastic video and pictures under water. I miss it.
I know! Also, its crazier when you think about the fact that they used to have some of the most conservative designs in the industry, remember the Galaxy S4?
Great collaboration by 2 of my favorite and most knowledgeable tech reviewers. I learned a lot that I didn't know about in this video. Please keep them coming.
I was in he ocean for about 30 min b4 I realized I had my samsung galaxy s7 in my swim trunks. I swam as fast as I could to shore and placed my phone in a towel to dry it. For about 2 hours it didn't hold a charge, but know almost a full year later its almost like it never happened
Isnt? Is that so.., For 2 years i have been dipping my p20 pro in sea water., and afterwards leaving it for 10 minutes in clean fresh bottled water., never had a issue..,
Fun video, I have done IP tests at my work I have a 1m dunk tank. I think the confusion arises from the device withstanding the test 30 minutes in 1m of water does not mean it is a device intended to be used underwater routinely. It is a water resistance standard. Waterproof is a whole other level.
i used my xperia z1 in the ocea multiple times saltwater and all, nothing ever happened to it, unfortunately the battery blew up a year afterwards and pushed the lid out causing waterdamage when rinsing the phone i put it in rice and saved it it works fine but the backcover needs to be put back.
I just had my phone fall out of my pocket and into the toilet, and the back was shattered open and it destroyed the phone.(galaxy note 9) that I got just ONE year ago.
having your expensive phone fall into the toilet is one thing, but having it fall into the toilet, shattering the back, and having the phone water damaged is just horrible. i always take my phone out and place it on the counter near the toilet before going by it to avoid this.
Every time Jerry speaks in between, I am reminded of KITT from the recent knight rider series. Kitt was called monotone guy and it me me laugh when I was reminded of it
@@LinuxIsNotAnOperatingSystem Oh dang, they added a new standard! It's high pressure high temp water spray. Still not the same as 68 (but I'd assume it's be 68/69?) - Still, 8-10 mPa of pressure is pretty serious pressure.
@@noTH9IK Cleaning it with water is ok because it's still not under water and you are just washing the front screen so there will be no water pressure. Also my s8 was working fine after I used it under the pool. It died when I was drying it and I was trying to push the waters out by tapping it. I tried everything to fix it when it died, like I tried rice and blow drier. But it was DIED. So I got the money back from Samsung and now I have s10 plus. Never gonna try to do that with this phone under pool again 😂.
I have had Oukitel k10000 max for a year but are now selling it to a friend. My new phone, Blackview bv9500 is MIL-STD 810G, IP68 and IP69K-certified. 10000 mAh battery in both phones. Love it so far.
Got to love how it's obvious that you guys never met up to do this. Zach's microphone sound is rather distinct. And yeah, my phone was sold as "Water proof" (The Moto G3) but after just a few short dunks to make some underwater video, the sd card reader started giving up the ghost. Lenovo never got it fixed, they're honestly a horrible company. The store that sold it to me did a great job though.
my s8 is definitely waterproof.. Taken it to 3 different beaches and b4 taking it to the 3rd i dropped it and cracked the edge of the screen. Very small crack but I knew that the integrity of the rating was now compromised. How is it still waterproof with no otter box protection? CLEAR NAIL POLISH! worked like a charm. I'm waiting for the s10 so I'm not upgrading nor am I paying 200 for a new screen lol. 50 likes and I'll post all my underwater pics (straight from my phone) on my channel. ☺
@@vadimm3521 Normally salt water may dissolve the glue... in ur case ur phone should be fine, but I wouldn't advise placing it near water again, especially with a cracked screen...
I had one waterproof phone which worked. You had seals on the charger plug, headphone plug etc. Closed it. If the phone isnt cracked. Make sure it was tightly sealed and boom you had a good minute under water without change. They also said slow movements is better. And no jumping and hard splashes with the water. It worked it was great
I miss the days of mobile durability. In the early 90s my Nokia 6230 (?) was brilliant. It once dropped out of my shirt pocket as I standing on a Landrover roof rack onto a tarmac car park, it broke apart and the battery landed in a puddle. I took it home and put it on a windowsill near a radiator wrapped in a towel for a few days and it worked perfectly. Same phone a month or so later, I leant over a drainage channel I was digging and it again dropped from my shirt pocket (no, I didn't learn) into over a foot of water. Took it apart same drying procedure and it worked forever more, still have it. I was astonished when I had a Blackberry and using it on a rainy day killed it, the papers were pink.
I really enjoyed this video, I'd love another that breaks down a phone marketing point into something understandable. Maybe the "f" part of cameras and mega pixels.
I agree with zack, only rely on that ip rating when accidentally contact,i never do dip the phone in the water..but many think different, they always dip down their phone for just pictures and videos
Crystal formation is something you should never underestimate. Pet urine on electronics can form cubes an inch wide inside of them. This happens to monitors and TVs. Treat it like ice wedging. Would you leave your phone sitting in liquid helium and then water? Then don't try with salt water.
I currently run a G5, a phone that sold poorly specifically because it wasn't water resistant the year all other phones were. Having the phone means I've kept my old habits of being careful around water with it. Coming off 5 years of iPhone (glad to break that addiction BTW) I have quickly become addicted to being able to change the battery and really consider that feature more important than water resistance. I don't know what I will do next time out now that all flagships are sealed and you can't change out batteries, but I think I will continue to be careful around water even if my phone is "water proof". Thank you Mr. Mobile for another insightful review.
Used my LG V30 in the pool a few times and even in the shower. Never had had any issues... That being said I'll stop after learning it just take a drop to mess it all up. Good informative video 👍
So far my LG G5 has survived a night flooded in a tent, 3 days lost on the forest floor with dew and whatnot also i dropped in the pacific ocean twice, once in 3 feet on water in january, it took me a moment to consider going in for it. And then even after the screne and body fully disconecting it still works.....
*Researcher Researching Research* It's hard to make a device waterproof I suppose. I don't mind my device "just" being water resistant, but then it should be marketed as such instead of beings shown like it can survive continuous dunks of water without a hitch
I think you're probably referring to LifeProof cases. While they're excellent cases (they better be for how much they cost), they're still going to have their limitations. I'm not sure what they tend to be rated at, but regardless, once you reach a certain depth, the water pressure is still going to compromise the case's integrity.
Binge watching your videos while off from work. Each one is like a jem. I enjoy them so much, even ones I’ve already watched. The best. Been watching and supporting since pocketnow. Happy subscriber. That’s all. Kthanksbye 😁
Most waterproof/robust phone I ever had? My current LG G6. Used it in the pool and rivers many times, took videos underwater and in the rain, washed it when it got dirty, but it never missed a beat! It's approaching 3 years of service now and admittedly the battery is starting to show its age, other than that the whole phone is as good as the day I bought it! Kept it in a case, so no dents on the aluminum where water can seep in. I must say the USB port and headphone jack are very reliable, they still work fine. I wish more manufacturers would take durability seriously and advertise it accordingly.
When I got my Galaxy S6 Active in 2015, I did test it in the pool and the ocean, but I needed to wash it by water and dry it after all. The salt in the ocean can charge my phone ;) . And now it does still work well.
If the phone detects moisture within the componenets, it should automatically shut the headphone jack and other openings to stop the phone from being damaged.
Yes please do another collab covering military spec durability - I recently got an LG G7 and I'm curious to know if it can survive a tank driving over it 😅 (am also working under the assumption that it can deflect bullets).
I looooveeee to see another collaboration between my favourite tech RU-vidrs. Excellent video. And one more time - sorry about your v30. I love mine...and yes, I do fresh water baths on that phone too :)
Yes! I own an IP68 certified phone but whenever I go to a pool I put it in thos e bags. They're great! I prefer leaving that certification for accidents or waking under the rain
