So true. I have two youth leaders at my church, one older and one younger. This basically summed up my entire youth group experience. Keep the new content coming!
You had me at the WOW Cd reference!! As a Christian, we knew what songs were in what color CD cover 😂 AND don't try to hide the casual PAN to the Prince of Egypt 😂😂😂😂😂!!!
@@derek4412 I can’t speak for anyone else, but it messed with my mind. I’m 32 now and I still can’t look at women and expect one to fall out of heaven. It’s absolute Bologna that the evangelical church pushed a book written by a 20 something
I flipped through it after I had been married to see what it was about. 🤷🏼♀️ A valuable life lesson I was taught was to not take one resource and make it the center of my universe. It’s sad to me that many people have such negative reviews, but I truly do see the value in not dating around. I was taught about courtship since I was little and I’ve watched many people go through it successfully. 🤷🏼♀️
Yeah I read that book when I was still a Christian in my 20s and it even seemed a little too restrictive and "let God find them for you" even then. Now that I'm not a Christian I think it's actively harmful.
The San Francisco comment had me dying. The generational gap with "I kissed dating goodbye" is real. You will absolutely be seeing Millennials telling the younger generation to not read that book.
@@monamarie1984 Because a bunch of people who read the book apparently internalized the idea that sex was so bad and shameful, that it actually negatively impacted their marriage (!)
@@maryannvalerio9869 when I read it I just thought - oh okay, I should only date someone that I could see a future with. It actually helped me not waste time on guys who weren't serious. 🤷🏽♀️
Satire not being satire… The “You have to read” and “ do not read” I kissed dating goodbye is killer. When we follow human beings it’s always a letdown
I was part of the Chacha slide generation. Before everyone had cellphones but after everyone had an email. My son is the now generation. This made me laugh so hard because of all the truth.
I Kissed Dating Goodbye was everywhere when I was in middle and high school. Is that not a thing anymore? I always thought it was kinda messed up, so I'm glad Jake's character was implying that it's not pushed on kids now.
Being a youth pastor myself these days. The cringe moments for the teens is when I use one or two of their “words” sus, bet. Lit😂😂😂 I bring the old school dance moves in and they go for it.
I kissed dating goodbye gets unwarranted attacks these days. There’s nothing wrong with the book, in fact I think we’d have a lot more Christ centered marriages if more people applied the principles it taught. The problem is that everyone took it to the absolute extreme and then tried to mix cultural dating with the principles the book taught and it doesn’t work. As Christians we’re called to not be like culture, to be set apart, and that includes how we “date” and prepare for marriage. Unfortunately, anymore, there’s hardly any distinguishing attributes separating Christian dating culture from the culture/worlds dating culture. And, that’s why divorce rates inside the church as just as high as the divorce rates outside of the church
Christians make much of not having sex until the wedding day though (how many of them actually fulfill that, however, is hard to tell). So even with Christian dating starting to look more like modern dating than the Victorian-style, parent-directed courtship model that IKDG recommends, it is still pretty "different"
I remember one time we had a scavenger hunt/race around town, just split up into 6-7 groups that drove around and had to video different things off a sheet. I remember one was to go into burger kind and ask for a Big Mac because their slogan is have it your way. When we got back we watched everyone’s videos.... fun activity, but wildly dangerous in hindsight
I saw a poster yesterday on a Catholic church for an anti hookup campaign It said "Yolo" "choose to be holy" I was like "huh... Trying to reach the youth??"
None of this is necessary once one makes true contact. Then they'll be coming to you for more.. If you can show the way. When do we get to see that. Lol
All laughing aside, church is becoming way too much like the culture and it’s not a good thing at all. This is a huge reason why we are where we are today
Oh man being in charge of the slides for the over head projector for praise and worship was a call back to my past that hit me straight in the funny bone 😂
