Austin's story is absolutely horrific and heartbreaking, even just thinking he has to live with the knowledge of what he did for the rest of his life. A detail you left out was that he screamed to the officers 'please help, I'm eating people!' as if part of him was aware of what his psychosis was making him do, but he couldn't stop himself. Austins case is exactly why its so important to destigmatize mental health, particularly mental health that has to do with psychosis or manic episodes. Theres so much shame pushed onto those dealing with these symptoms by society and media by and large that its no wonder Austin slipped through the cracks. I'm sure his friends and family assumed he had to be healthy due to his bodybuilding but it just goes to show you cant judge how sick someone is by their physical appearance sometimes.

“MuH sTiGmA, mUh ShAmE!” You ever consider there’s reasons why certain conditions are stigmatized? Dude literally murdered people. I’m pretty sure his victims had every right to fear for their lives. Stigmatizing conditions like depression are uncalled for. But stigmatizing conditions that can and have been the root of violent acts is just human nature. It’s ignorant, and frankly stupid, to say some people shouldn’t be shamed into treatment. Yes, the fucking should. If not for their sake, then for those around them. You say they couldn’t judge how sick he was. Yes they fucking could. Schizophrenia was common in his family and he had been acting strange leading up to his murders. That’s a giant red flag they shouldn’t have ignored

I went through a less serve but still violent situation like Austin’s case with my ex husband. We married early.. there were signs but I was young. In less than 2 years he was a complete different man who beat me one night because I wouldn’t say he was smarter than Stephen Hawking in a fight. His family and friends saw what he did to me, our house, himself, our finances.. nobody helped. It took him being arrested and jailed multiple times for him to get help. Took almost a decade to find him and have him be well enough to sign divorce papers. Early 20s for men and schizophrenia especially. It’s easily explained away to some as alcohol and drug dependence but that’s them self medicating usually in an attempt to relieve symptoms. I’m begging people, please pay attention to these huge swings and believe people when they tell you your loved ones are acting out of sorts.

My dad’s been an aeromodeller since long before I was born. When I was 9 we had gone out to a flying spot with a huge one propeller plane he’d just finished. I was running up ahead following its flight path and all of a sudden he lost power/control. All I heard was “HIT THE DECK COVER YOUR HEAD” bellowed by him from the other end of the field. I threw myself belly down and put my arms/hands over my head. It crashed onto the back of my left knee and the prop cut me. I still have the scar to this day and me and dad thought it was hilarious. My mother did not because yes it could have seriously damaged my head but I listened to him as soon as he said hit the deck thank goodness. I think he had to spend the night on the couch. His parents were fully aware of everything going on, and they 100% failed this young man. The deaths of those poor people are heart wrenching. Their family was so angry with Austin's parents because jail phone recordings released show that Austin's father was absolutely heartless, he blamed the victims, he was extremely callous. Austin's father appears to have ignored all signs that Austin was deteriorating for months, and it's been suggested that because he is an affluent man in the community, he was far more concerned with the optics of a son with mental illness than he was about getting his son any help. I told.him that made me feel uncomfortable but then he said that didn't make sense, since it was all love songs about him anyway... I was like, what? And he started talking about how he was the reincarnation of Jesus Christ. I tried to end the encounter then and there but he str*ngled me and made me finish. After that he told me he would only eat fish and bread, and drink wine and water, and tried to tell me to csll all of our friends over to "spread the word". idk if you left out information for dramatic effect, but Austin left the restaurant twice, the first time herded back inside by a friend he was with. He changed his clothes at his mom's after she made him stop drinking the vegetable oil. He swung at his dad after his dad hit the tabletop, demanding to know what was wrong with [him]. And leading up to all of that, he asked his parents to pay for therapy. They said they could love it out.There were several moments to intervene. There were several points to course correct, and all of them were deliberately ignored

Looking at the whole case, there were a ton of signs of his poor mental state that the people around him (his family) ignored because their reputation may be tarnished
@uggggggghhhhh
@uggggggghhhhh 3 месяца назад
From what I gather, there were a lot of signs. I think the issue is that there is still a lot of stigma surrounding mental health, sadly. Its extremely evident when the topic of discussion is about 'legal insanity'. Even the families of the victims, who should know most about the case, cannot wrap their minds around what it means to be legally insane. They see Austin as a "rich white boy"; they view the verdict of not guilty by reason of insanity and his possible release as "white privilege" EVEN THOUGH legal insanity is almost impossible to prove because of how strict the law is. Only 1% of people use insanity as a defense and way less people than that are successful in proving it. It only ever works when you are actually insane. I doubt he will ever be released anyway because his psychosis was so severe. Regardless, id rather go to prison than a psych ward. Some people just don't want to face the facts about mental health or are incapable because their minds are clouded by emotions and judgement.

@meatballman5127
@meatballman5127 3 месяца назад
@@magnuskallas While I see your point, I think it’s important to keep an open mind and not jump to conclusions on what person has what disorder you deem fitting. It’s a slippery slope that the people who actually know said person should be addressing, not folks on the internet who see very few parts of these peoples lives. We don’t know what they could be going through. But again, maybe a bit of a push in the right direction might make someone actually take themselves more seriously. I’m unsure what the right course of action would be in all honesty, but I think it’s a good discussion to have. And from what I’ve seen, I don’t think anyone is finding disorders “normal”, what I see is destigmatization of such things. Open discussions of illness which in turn might’ve made people like our main focus here feel less embarrassed to ask for help. In turn avoiding such tragedies. Of course, there are exceptions and you could be seeing something I’m not, though.

Chyenne probably felt very guilty for what she was doing with him, and that's why she tried protecting him. She was concerned for him, because he made her feel like they were doing something they weren't supposed to. It's one thing to abuse your step daughter, which is awful in its own right, but another to kill her out of fear of being caught. He could've just stopped abusing her. Even if he doesn't come clean, even if he suffers no consequences, he could've just stopped and she would be alive. It's even sadder that she loved him.

I wouldn’t have blamed her for it. Being stuck with your abuser (especially if it’s a parental figure) is so claustrophobic, you’re never safe and you’re always on edge. It’s so depressing. As a survivor of csa I always dreamt of doing it (running away), but was too scared to. I’m grateful I had friends I could confide in at the time, school was my escape from the hell that awaited me at home. It’s important to mention what was left out of this documentary that Austin was a member of a fraternity and was surrounded by friends who also received many texts from him trying to get drugs. He was fixated on procuring drugs at college and He bragged to them about being wasted all the time. While he was acting schizophrenic in many ways he was also abusing drugs and any he could get his hands on. if he used bath salts, which were found at gas stations, they aren’t easy to find in your system because it was a new drug on the scene. It’s also extremely important to mention he also consumed chemicals that he found in the garage nearly killed him. His body almost shut down. If the hospital didn’t have those special test to detect bath salts they were much more concerned about him clinging to life and saving the damage he did during his chugging of chemicals in between eating his mother’s neighbors faces. He also languished in prison for almost 7 years before the state gave up and decided to drop the charges, but not before putting the family through hell preparing for a trial. The state literally gave up the day of trial at trial-and the family of the deceased had impact statements prepared and ready to read in court. They shared them with the press instead. What struck me was how much evidence they had that he WAS abusing drugs but the regular tests came up negative. The face eater in Miami ALSO had a negative drug test but the cops knew he took bath salts. Bath salt tests were NOT accurate nor good in 2016 and even though Austin may have had schizophrenia he was 100% admitting to using drugs to his friends via text. IMO he was on bath salts that day and he just didn’t have them show up on his drug screen because he consumed chemicals and the only way to test for bath salts is urine. The chemicals excreted in his urine could have caused the drug test not to work.

Some care more for having a man in their life than their actual children, sadly.

I would rather the onus be on men to be better in general than the onus being placed on the women to pick out the good men.

Both things are good. And sadly, humans are and always will be flawed and certain of them prone to heinous acts whether it's culturally accepted or not.@@IntelegentFool

I feel sorry for both Austin and the couple killed by his episode. The poor guy seemed genuinely really nice, and even was pursuing music as a creative outlet. He just didn't get the help he needed until it was too late to prevent something like this. Heart also goes out to the officers that showed up. That scene probably haunts their dreams to this day.

I think he seemed like an asshole, but you are probably a woman, women don´t recognize assholes when they are handsome. Until it is too late.

@@anon3631you can't just give up on people like that especially the dude was strong as crap when he was tweaking out. I also experienced super human strength I just didn't eat anybody or burry my head in someone's belly.

The first story,well all of them were a tragedy,made my stomach flip seeing the step father come in. I noticed that there was no real comment regarding her mother? At any rate I feel settled that the step father is doing life in a Penitentiary and that sweet girl is at peace. I just subscribed to this channel and will check out other videos, good job presenting!

I knew when she was talking about him staying out of the vid prior to that. He was assaulting her continuously. It's sickening. You can tell she had taken to being kind and acting like she wanted it so likely wouldn't be so rough with her. I forget what it's called.

It's interesting that Cheyenne was overly developed for her young age. Poor little girl must have been going through it for years.
