Anisaraki is a very small village located at an altitude of 520 meters in the mountains of south-west Crete, the village is part of the municipality of Kandanos. The village with a few houses is rarely mentioned in travel guides and if it is mentioned, it is because of several Byzantine churches with special frescoes from the 13th to 16th centuries. The fact that the village is home to a miracle that is more than 3,000 years old is nowhere to be found in the travel guides or on the internet. It is only known to the local authorities and the inhabitants of the village!
Don't expect souvenir shops, restaurants or other tourist establishments, because there is nothing there, after all, tourists almost never come.
To get to the miracle, you follow a small unpaved path at the beginning of the village for a few hundred meters, straight through centuries-old olive groves. And then suddenly you stand in front of it, a more than 3,000 year old miracle of nature, a mighty olive tree with a perimeter from more then 18 meters, much larger and more impressive and lively than its famous brothers, the olive tree of Vouves and the tree of Kavousi and only slightly younger. These three trees are among the oldest living trees in the world.
The special thing about the Anisaraki olive tree is not only that it is virtually unknown, but also that it stands among many other ancient olive trees. There is a government sign near the tree with a full description of the tree.
