my experience with YT Shorts is I spend 30 minutes editing a long video into a Short, then I upload it and discover that, on mobile, 90% of the screen is taken up by the RU-vid UI and you can't even tell what is happening in my video

Your videos are pretty decent ngl. Just by thumbail and title alone I'd click on them if I was interested in those games. The videos itself also get straight to the point. Though not talking is so off putting. Try a text to speech maybe

My problem with short-format content is how brain rotting/damaging it is, it is made with the intention of having you glued to the screen for hours on end draining dopamine while you're watching these super quick videos that your brain can't process because of how fast they go by and how much information they try to cram in so little time. I'm glad I deleted my TikTok account more than half a year ago and never watch YT shorts, Instagram Reels, etc.

You're so right. Even the YT Shorts with good intentions end up either not being remembered or understood because it just goes too fast. There's a reason school/uni lessons tend to last one to a couple hours per subject.

ReVanced has an option for that. (ReVanced Settings → Layout → Shorts components → Disable in feed) Or mobile Firefox with addons. (uBlock Origin → Enter Element Picker Mode → we want to nuke "##.reel-shelf-content-wrapper", so enter that into the field and click 'Create') SmartTube Beta for Android TV also has an option to disable them in its settings.

If you're on your yt home page and you click the three dots + not interested on every short on your home page, they'll stop showing up for at least a while

there is actually an addon called Hide shorts from RU-vid that I use to hide them, it works like a charm!

@@Mount.TroglodyteIf you're on the youtube webpage there's actually an x in the top right of the shorts shelf that will hide it for 30 days. Fortunately this transfers over to the app too so you won't see any on that homepage either. This only works for the homepage and doesn't remove them from the related videos under videos but I've found that's been enough to cut down my shorts intake to zero.

the thing that always bugs me with shorts is how they put the captions one word at a time very quickly and animated as well as having wacky fonts and colors, which kind of completely defeats the purpose of even having captions in the first place and makes it even harder to read them

peter talked about shorts that cut right before the grand finale, and that reminds me of a similar thing where a short builds up to a grand finale and the grand finale does happen, but it's like super underwhelming and it lasts like 2 seconds at most before going back to the start, equally as infuriating.

I've definitely seen some actually pretty good shorts, but that's because my youtube algorithm in general already tends to be quite specific, so I get stuff like a short about wether or not chainmail will help you survive getting shot by an arrow.

There are 4 main types of short form videos in my opinion: Ragebait videos (doing something obviously rage inducing to boost comment section engagement) Watchbait videos (leaving the payoff toward the end of the video, or sometimes just don’t include the payoff lol) Commentbait videos (pretty much obviously include something “SUS” or “Weird” in the background to boost comment section engagement) Or just a regular video with no bait attempt Legends say that including all bait types into one video skyrockets your channel into the stratosphere in half a day
