#1 Bridge from RU-vid Shorts to long-form content
The first very important change came this summer when RU-vid announced that they are now creating a bridge from RU-vid Shorts to long-form content. What does this mean? When RU-vid launched the Shorts feature to compete with Tik Tok, they used the same algorithm for long-form content.
And if someone watched a lot of Shorts, the algorithm learned that a person seems to love short videos and therefore only recommended them. A lot of people complained that RU-vid separated these algorithms completely.
But this is now coming to a change. RU-vid announced that they are creating a bridge from short-form videos to long-form videos. This means that if someone has watched a lot of your Shorts on their smartphone and they later go to the RU-vid home page to watch long-form videos, they might see some of your videos.
This means that while in the past it was interesting to have a separate Shorts channel, now I would put both Shorts and long-form content on one channel. You can also manually get people from your short to your long-form content by creating Shorts out of your existing long-form videos.
#2 Shorts community managers
RU-vid has also launched a new program with Shorts community managers. They have already been available for normal RU-vid channels for a long time. Community managers give you feedback on your channel and might work together with you. But you need to be over 1000 subscribers to get access.
RU-vid Shorts community managers are more targeted towards building communities out of different Shorts creators and creating community events and not working with them one on one.
And there's no such limit as 1000 subscribers! It states that you need to meet the criteria for the RU-vidShorts Fund to gain access. RU-vid writes you an email and invites you to this program.
#3 Home page shelf for RU-vid Shorts
RU-vid Shorts will get their own shelves on the RU-vid channel page so that Shorts are better separated from long-form content.
#4 Earning money with Shorts
Shorts are getting more and more interesting because at the beginning of next year you will be able to earn money with them. RU-vid has already started playing ads in the Short player, so as an advertiser, you can place your ads in short-form videos.
In early 2023 RU-vid will launch a RU-vid partner program for Shorts. But it is different from the normal RU-vid partner program. RU-vid will now put all of the money from all of the ads in one pot and then distribute them between the RU-vid channels equally.
The money is distributed by views, so if you get many views, you get a bigger share of the money.
This means that if someone watches your video for 10 seconds or 45seconds doesn't matter.
