I just realized how big of a role FBE plays in bringing together RU-vidrs and documenting RU-vid history through the eyes of its reactors. In this sense, FBE really is the backbone of RU-vid.
Man, seeing people like Timothy DeLaGhetto and Anthony reacting to contents like this makes me feel really nostalgic. Takes me back when I was just browsing RU-vid circa 2006-2007 without any care in the world :'(
asdfmovie started in 2008, fred started in 2006, epic rap battles started in 2010 which explains why those weren't shown. However llamas with hats did start in 2009, (unless it actually made it's debut years earlier on Newgrounds like some series) so it definitely should've been there.
I still remember my first video on youtube being "how to be ninja" by nigahiga when I was 10 years old... Now I'm 19 and i still love those kinda videos.
I’m about to turn 18 and I started watching RU-vid when I was 8, smosh was everything to me and how they changed along with others scares. Other 10 years how something could change so much, but I love this site so damn much❤️
Since we're moving into a nostalgia era (Classic WoW, Old School Runescape ect..) we should get a theme option to go back to old RU-vid xD Some people may enjoy the old style of YT, and it'd give creators another way to personalize their channel, and not have to see it if they don't want to
Gosh, I remember being 13 back when RU-vid first became a thing, barely knowing how to search the internet because it was so much harder back then and schools didn't really teach you that much about computers except typing and the Microsoft programs. Whereas my daughter uses a smartphone like it's an ingrained skill at 6 years old but can't figure out the controls of an SNES. Feeling old as dirt 😆
I remember buying a book(!!!) with all kind of useful links to different sites when I first had access to the internet. Things like google didn't even exist.
15:10 I agree with what Brandon says here. That magic RU-vid had in the early years is completely lost nowadays. Back at the beggining it felt like this was just random people uploading their random shit to this platform, no one was really trying to become rich or famous or anything like that, they were just people expressing themselves. Nowadays... not so much. And don't get me wrong, what RU-vid has become is great too and has allowed many of those random weirdos from back in the day to make a living out of what they love, but there was a vibe that has been lost (was lost years ago) that's never going to come back, and that's kind of sad.
I deffinently got into a moment that I didnt feel old but rather nostalgic. Almost all of those videos brought me back to how or when I first found/saw them. Like boxy, I remember my group of friends then talking about her over lunch. I remember going to smosh's page and seeing the card board background, just binge watching their videos on my first ever laptop with a friend. I also start to cross connect with side memories that have nothing to do with the videos or the people shown in this video. Makes me wonder what I'm going to reminisce on in another 10 years.
It's funny..I turn 21 in a few days and I remember back when Ian and Anthony first put out the Pokemon theme video they made. I was sitting in my room maybe at like 12 at night watching videos on my PlayStation portable on a warm summer night. I look back and all I can really say is wow because this platform went from like Brandon said "individuals gaining fame" to music labels getting above RU-vid's finest RU-vidrs. It's been a wild ride here, from Rucka Rucka Ali to modern day Pewdiepie and Smosh.
2009 RU-vid was my favorite RU-vid because RU-vid had less rules so I could watch all my tv shows on RU-vid. I can't watch ALF or Gilligan's Island anymore.
FBE, not to be rude, but your logo is so boring now. Looks like some suit took 5 mins to draw it up and said "this is what we represent now" It doesn't speak to YOUR community. Just looks like "Grandma's kitchen" instead of "fun night out."
