Ys X: Nordics - Release Date Announcement Trailer - Nintendo Switch 

With the sole exception of Ys Origin, which has three characters as the protagonists, none of whom are the series protagonist due to the game taking place hundreds of years in the series' past, and while the story mostly stands on its own, it has many call-forwards to the first two games that are lost on anyone who hasn't played the first two games.

I was wondering about that exactly. I am gald this answer is at the top of the comments.

@@vshadowlancev8107yeah. (Spoilers) they had so many great metroidvania-esque powerups for moving/exploration, but they only had like 2 dungeons designs that took the full advantage of the mobility. The other half of the dungeons look open, but still lead you in a straight line. Obviously there must be a single correct route for story’s sake, but I wish they’d let us find it out ourselves like they did in the cloaca maxima and (kind of) in Emain Macha dungeons instead of leading us in a straight line. Takes more budget and money though, and they clearly don’t have much of it. Still excited for Ys X and will buy day 1 but my expectations waned especially if they are still strapped for cash. They had so many great ideas in 9 that clearly weren’t able to be fleshed out as much, potentially due to lack of manpower/budget.

I got into them with 8. Such a great series!

Agreed, I love really like the combat in the games, chaining flash guards to become invincible and do big damage is so fun. I loved Ys 8, but I think might like Ys 9 more thanks to the great combat and traversal options, I love a game with fast and fun traversal options.

Pretty much the OG action RPG. Glad it's been on fire lately. I have to catch up. 7 is next on my list to play and I already own 8 as well.

I started with Ys 1 on the Sega Master System. It was my Legend of Zelda growing up.

I recall him speaking when fighting during Ys VIII and Ys IX.

He's not a mute, but yeah, it looks like he might talk during cutscenes in this one. Unless the lines are pulled from battle cries like he has in the other games.

@@Drewtendo I could be wrong, but I believe it was him talking at the beginning of the trailer during his “spotlight” moment. Also yes, I know he is not a mute. I was referring to his status as a silent protagonist.
