"And it was a real gardenia!" Priceless scene! YTJD had amazing writers. And this is an amazing Matter, one of the best.

Jack Johnstone wrote many of the scripts (and directed) when Bob Bailey was Johnny. He continued to write after the show moved to New York. When I read his obituary I realize he was a legend in radio.

I so wanted to cry for this one. You don’t need pictures. I’m thinking that tv wasn’t an improvement.

Neat Crutchfield story! Too bad JD didn’t tell his dying friend that Lisa had loved him!!

One of my favorite Johnny’s. The final scene is so well played and poignant esp the pathos you can hear in Johnny’s voice when Ed asks him to shake his hand.

Enjoyed the episode. it did give me some insight into how they used settings in 'foreign' location stories. there may well have been a police station in plaza bolivar in the 50's (I lived in panama from mid-80's on but by that time this part of town wasn't somewhere I needed to be). the hotel could have been in Bella Vista, or a bit further east. At one point Bella Vista was a separate town. the 'coast road 6 miles out of town' where matters wrap up does not exist as far as I can tell, at least as able to have a long rocky cliff - there are no cliffs on the coast near panama city and to the east. you do see this sort of coastline on the Caribbean side, but not the pacific side near panama city. Also I do not believe any coast road existed much past panama viejo. so my thinking is they got a basic map, located the police station accurately, and made the rest up from the map. maybe the writers had been to tijuana and ensenada near the california border, but for other locales it may be safe to assume it is just names.
