@@Clancysway That's part of it. The other is that, while some of these Japanese players do _speak_ English, they're always concerned that their words may come out wrong and end up being misinterpreted.
The Cardinals, St. Louis, and Missouri had an unexpected effect in Japan at this year's WBC. Nootbaar has a very good character, and there is no Japanese person who dislikes him. He's just the most famous American man right now. There are a lot of Japanese who paid attention to Nootbaar Cardinals, St. Louis, Missouri. The number of Cardinals fans in Japan will increase rapidly and more people will want to go to St. Louis. Cardinals goods will also become popular in Japan, so importers are preparing now.
These words mean a lot. I'm a massive Cardinals fan and live in missouri. We live, breathe and eat Cardinals baseball and nootbaar is our king here. Every time he comes up to bat the whole crowd goes NOOOOOOOOT 😂
thats awesome. i grew up a cubs fan (made the move to red sox recently because i hate the yankees). i cant say i really like the cardinals but lars is one of my favorite mlb players. yu darvish happens to be one of my favorite players as well. cheers from albuquerque, new mexico
The man has to play. Plenty of records to break. Let's not get ahead of the 20 baseball seasons he's got ahead in order to become legendary. Nonetheless impressive 😊 but a lot of baseball to be played. Congrats to Japan on agreat run.
Yu speaks and understands better English than Ohtani, but still needs a translator for the longer questions and replies. Interesting! I thought he was already fluent 😂
Was wondering that too but his questions weren’t translated just his answers I’m thinking he just wanted to come off the right way and not be misunderstood with wordage
As I know he's already as fluent as native speaker level, you can see many english interview videos on youtube. Just be with translator to avoid mistakes or for the Japanese people
Why doesn't the American media report on fraud? At the press conference, Kuriyama complained about the rule change during the WBC. Joinother participating nations in calling for a protest against MLB.
Anyone speaking Japanese here? I reckon the interpreter doesn't speak much Japanese. A few times, Yu Darvish answers a few words, and the interpreter turns those into a good few sentences.
You act like Great Britain, Canada and Colombia are tough opponents. All the groups were pretty well balanced, Group D being more difficult than Group C.
I know this result doesnt mean that japan is better than dominica, puertorico venezuela. But beating maxico and usa is enough to prove they are competitive atleast.
@@einzelganger09 Japan are the best in the world now. They are world champs. They beat Mexico who beat PR and they beat US who beat Cuba and Venezuela. Venezuela beat both PR and DR in pool play. Quit it.
Since Yu's Daddy is Iranian, who had stayed in US before coming here with his Japanese wife. If they'd decided to settle in US, we might have seen different result of WBC final yesterday. We call him 'DA-Ru-Bi-SYU' unlike his literal name though..
I disagree. He may be an unnecessary addition (for you) but for Samurai Japan; he's important - everybody is important on that Japan baseball roster. Also, Nootbar wants to represent Japan since he was a kid.
Bunch of foolish comments. By allowing Nootbaar to play for the national team, you are neglecting a more dedicated local player who worked hard to play for the national team. Someone who has japanese nationality and who speaks japanese. Why would you prioritize a foreigner to play in the national team? Similar trend can be seen at work places in Japan or in many other developed countries around the world. Foreigners from third world countries are given work while there are homeless japanese wondering on streets. The WBC rules are set by globalists to implement their agenda. I protest against invasion of foreign take over of Japan and of any other country in the world.
1 game takes all = the game has more meaning to win now Half the players aren't in it = USA's problem because their "good" players don't give a damn about the national team The land of "patriots", lol 🤪🤪🤪🤪
So, is that what it takes, citizenship? Really? The list for eligibility is long and rightfully so considering this WBC was created in America, the land of choice. It is very fitting they get to pick their team.
@@JoeKyser nope. that's like saying mookie betts should play for an african team or arenado should play for cuba. u don't pick nationality. either you are born there or a citizen there. if you aren't either then you don't belong. period
Nootbar betrayed his country during this tournament. Nothing against this guy but he's not Japanese. That's like saying Mookie Betts is African or Arenado is Cuban. Dude's a clown.
Nootbaar's mum is literally japanese and both his parents can speak japanese....... Mookie betts is of african ancestry and arenado is of cuban ancestry it's literally not the same
@@MyGunz69 Arenado's dad is from california but is of cuban descent. There's a difference between an american being of cuban descent and having one of your parents be japanese
Let's be real. The general public doesn't care about the WBC. International sports rule are very loose. You can pretty much pick the side of your ancestry if you are going to get playing time. Nootbar would not have made the US roster.
What’s embarrassing about wanting to communicate properly officially. Many american players in Japan after many years also have interpreters! Those who”speaks” can just line up same 30-40 short sentences…
I think the number of people watching this game was bigger in Japan than in the US. Japanese fans want to hear him speaking Japanese and even he speaks English well, he still expresses himself way better in Japanese. Many ex-major leaguers have been playing in Japan and even they learn some Japanese and communicate in Japanese with his teammates, they still speak English in interviews. That’s nothing rare.
