I hope this takes off, because all the casuals in my area are getting thrashed by people who all too often play way too many meta decks with OTK and FTK moves. So if this can be something casuals can play without being screwed over this could keep casuals in the game and it can be a cheaper way of playing the game.
Hell yeah. Good way for the old glory hounds like myself (active 2002-2006 , 2017-2018) to be able to play the old Yu-Gi-Oh we originally fell in love with.
For the first 8 minutes i was like: yay i can use my old cards to make a decent deck, then i reached the part where it says i have to buy the old cards again... Fair enough
@@agizowat2545 rules only apply for official tournaments if you want you can break them with your opponents approval of course so if you're just playing with a friend do what you want.
They had a neat idea a few years ago (can't remember where and when it appeared) that they need to re-introduce to the main game: GENERATION-BASED BAN LISTS. It was technically 5 banlists, one for each generation of Yugioh they had at the time. Each generation would ban whatever generation came after it. The Xyz-based ZEXAL ban list didn't allow Pendulums, for example. The Synchro-based 5D'S banlist didn't allow Pendulum or Xyz cards, and so on and so forth, all the way down to Gen 1, which heavily restricted Effect cards so you had to use Vanilla monsters. The bottom end was for vetrans who liked the original game--and newbs who wanted to learn--and the high end was full-on competitive curbstomp. Or you could go somewhere in the middle, where Synchros were all you had to deal with. The point was, YOU got to pick what level you wanted to play at, and had a banlist suited JUST for that level of play. It was an amazing system, kinda mad it didn't stay around.

He and I both know I would SHOULD have some type of knowledge on that very correlation, but I can’t just pretend like I knew it was coming…) Light: That’s smart on Konamis part. Yugioh was getting complicated, this would really help simplify the game catered to newer players 😁
I kinda wish they implemented the speed counter system like in 5D, so that all spells require a certain amount of counters to be activated. That way people can't just go off activating any and all spells in one turn so recklessly.
As a 31 year old man who grew up with the card game and hates the meta and the bullshit that comes along with it. I find speed dules a great way to bring my children into the game I grew up with.
My friends and I make our own skill cards and some of them are normal like, double draw, when you draw draw an extra card, or double summon; get 2 normal summons, but some.... are like this master of pendulum; add 2 pendulum monsters with different scales to your hand, or Fusion freak; add two monsters to your hand and one fusion spell card or mask spell card OR polymerazation to your hand. But we have a point system where when you win a duel you get 10 points so you can get cards or skills. So yeah that’s what my school does for speed duels and I think we can get more people into the club we started with speed duels.
Definitely interested in this, since my friend group all watched the anime growing up, but play mtg now, this should be reasonable to get into for a few fun games, without putting too much money in

When they told me this was how we could take back Yu-Gi-Oh I was very skeptical but I can see how up to Xyz this will at least make playing Yu-Gi-Oh fun again. Though a few expansions in and ya'll will run into the same problem as Duel Links. $$$= Win. Still nice to see that for now it's balanced.
Love this! Now I can play this game again... I just need to find someone else that's willing to play it with me LOL! Edit* I also believe that the "Skills cards" should've been a part of the game from the beginning since most YuGiOh players learnt the game via the anime... Specially in my country of origin... Most of us didn't know what manga was at the time that YuGiOh came so the Anime was our source of information so to speak...

Well that is pretty cool. I like the idea of speed duels as yugioh duel links was my first experience with yugioh the card game. I was a big fan of the anime too. I always liked the way it was played in yugioh’s first series with only normal ritual fusion and effect monsters but was willing to eventually move to learn and use synchro xyz pendulum and link monsters in master duels. I wanted it to just come later. Only thing i dont like is they dont have the simple online forbidden and limited list but with the card pool being set as well just so we dont have to deal with new cards like u said. But i dont want to have to throw away some of my master duel cards from speed duels even though they are no different in the speed duel rules
I feel like there should be a middle-ground balance where you still get to play with a full board and deck but you get to keep the balance changes and banning of terrible new power creep effects in a format that can run alongside the main format. Yu-Gi-Oh already releases way too many products so if they changed it so each format gets a product every other month that would be great.
Hmmm. When I first heard of Speed Dueling I thought it was like the Pendulum concept.....pretty fucking stupid, but now it's actually peaked my interest faintly. I mean cutting out 2 zones as well as MP2 is still displeasing, but anything that says fuck Pendulums can't be all bad and LP cutting to 4000 isn't something I have a problem with. I've always used a combo of Solemn Wishes with Morphing Jar's flip effect for an instant 2500 boost. Point gaining for me while simultaneously decking out my opponent. I'll just use Jar of Avarice to replenish my deck and use it again with the Boogie Trap spell. I've actually won duels with more than 20,000 LPs and if decking out my opponent doesn't work out I always use Dark Snake Syndrome as my back-up plan.
I know it can't, but would really love this to have the living card game model (LCG), as seen in games like Netrunner and starwars destiny (any fantasy flight game) Where you have a core set, and only 4 or so other sets legal at a time (release big box 1 & 2 small box 3,4, and when big box 5 is released, box 1 is no longer legal) Really helps game balance and limits pool from getting to big.
That speed duel watermark is just an excuse to sell more cards. In Duel Links, there's a few cards that has different effects than the TCG. Mainly cards with burn effects deal half as much life points due to the lower starting life points. This is the only reason watermark makes sense, but it could cause confusion if those cards were used for the regular duel.
Ok I can't be the only one who heard the name "speed duels" And thought about YuGiOh 5Ds and got a little excited only to watch this and think "it's just duel links" The only cool thing here is the skill cards that's actually a cool thing to make real
Some things that came up when I played A) is there matches and siding B) what’s the hand size C) can we have our skills sleeved so the back can’t give away info D) when does the booster set come out E) if you destroy a face up skill like the toon one or a field spell skill does it go to grave or leave the game
I will try to answer ur questions based on duel links rule A) yes match and siding exist B) you start with 4 cards, max hand size is 6 C) they have sleeves too in duel links, but not sure in this game it allow or not D) structure deck already out, dont know about booster E) yes it goes to the grave

@@alsparkproductions7849 I mostly just play Commander (4-player) these days, and I like it a lot. Tournament formats like Standard, Modern, Legacy etc. are mostly a lot of fun but not really worth the cost anymore in my opinion.

I think what would work better than Duel Links and Speed Duels would be if they had different sets of rules. So have one where there's only fusion monsters, one where there's fusions and synchros, one for everything up to XYZ, and then the current format with pendulums and links. Duel Links is becoming the regular tcg but with less life points, zones, and smaller decks.
I've yet to hear anyone cover this, but what happens when a Field Spell/Continuous Spell Skill is destroyed? I'm going to assume it still hits the GY like any normal card would? But afterwards is it even possibly to interact with? Since it's technically not a normal card I would guess something like Magician of Faith can't bring it back to the hand. Probably a dumb question, but I'm asking anyway.
Can I use this duel but with my Meta decks ? Lol with friends. Looks like my deck would be super consistent if I cut it in half. 😅 just the extra deck would suck
