There is something profound about how the Guilin portion tipped the entire series on its head in about 2 hours time and left us hanging with so many ideas as for what's to come. If one day the story does conclude there will be a portion of people who didn't like the path it took. I have faith, but what if Shenmue 3 fall short of expectations after 10-15 years waiting? But regardless, Shenmue 1 and 2 were perfect experiences
@Chosenoneknuckles Well, I don't think it's unrealistic to re-release Shenmue I and II for Wii since it's the closest to Dreamcast graphic-wise. I own the big 3 consoles, and if they released Shenmue III for all of them, I would buy all three versions.
@Crazycupmuffin When he said "I think Sega will let me", he likely meant that if he could get together the financial backing for a continuation of Shenmue, Sega would not legally obstruct him with rights issues. Note he said LET, as in allow. Shenmue 3 may actually be more likely with Suzuki now outside Sega, as I think Suzuki would find it easier to get support from a third party than Sega themselves.
it has been so long ago that i played the game .... i am an MBA now but i still remember the game .... awesome game ... when it came came i completed all the cd's in a single go... wish to see the end....
Shenmue is coming and I know this for a fact mark cerny will help make it happen for the ps4 he has known about the project for a long time. Next gen will bring back games that we love and miss
They should release retail-copies of Shenmue I & II for Wii, PS3 and 360 to get the players hooked again, then go make the third installment when even more people have experienced the epicness of Shenmue.
Unbelievable interview wow Yu Suzuki said it might be made thats incredible! The best series I played ever along with Zelda, Mario, Metal Gear, Oblivion, Modern Warfare, & Shenmue. I would love to see the first two Shenmue games released on Live and PSN, but I feel like I'd like to see the gameplay updated. As it is, it can be a bit clunky at times and if left as is, might not reach as broad an audience. Hopefully it can be updated without being overly simplified.
Any Shenmue news is good news. Now its up to SEGA to really get things moving. Yu Suzuki has already said he wants Shenmue on xbox360 and PS3. It needs to be a compleat Version (1, 2 and 3) all in one, or the 16 chapters done over 3 games (Shenmue 1, was Chapter1) (Shenmue 2, was chapters 3,4,5 & 6) Chapter 2 was missed out (the time while Ryu was on the ship)
If Shenmue 3 came out I swear I would stand in line for the midnight release and take time off of work to give this game the attention it deserves. I have been waiting for Shenmue 3 since I was 13!
Shenmue was way ahead of its time, being an "interactive drama" That idea hadn't really been done much. People didn't know how to react. Take a look now, we've got stuff like Heavy Rain and Indigo Prophecy, which did quite well. Leaps and bounds have been made in video game voice acting and writing. Those were Shenmue's weakness in english. In that sense, Shenmue could probably have a lot more success and recognition than it did back in 1999.
They got to finish the story. Would buy any console to play it. Anyway I deserve to cause I've been waiting so long at least for such a info. YES !!! Hope for release.

@damienp1988 theres a certain romanticism in the fact that it will never end. the beauty of the guilin section is overpowering and its a feeling that endures. any type of conclusion would merely conclude.
Shenmue was the best game ever made in game history and its graphics/gameplay were ahead of its time.Nowadays many games have copied stuff from Shenmue like QTE,mini games,free roam,etc,but none of these games can achieve the epicness Shenmue was and still is.If Shenmue 3 is going to be released someday,I am pretty sure that it will be the best game ever made.I have already give up the hope,but tbh I hope it is going to happen.New Dreamcast+Shenmue 3=epic win.

I was like that back in the day, but I always thought I was missing out on something...Which in the case of MGS is true, I thought the first one was much better than the second, And I've read that Silent Hill 2 is the best in the series. (Only played the first one for a bit). As for where to get it, Coolrom is a great place for Roms and ISO's, along with Theisozone and Emuparadise. For controllers, the one I use is a Logitech F310, but a wired Xbox 360 or PS3 controller would work too. :)

Yet I've still haven't seen a game with Asian looking characters make it big as the various titles stated, and "race" or features is a big thing in Japan. and the Title of the game does no implicit foretell the design of characters. Again, I hope i'm wrong because there are tons of loopholes with your comments.
its like a banging 80s movie. alot of people thought it was really slow and said fuck it and didnt play it, but its a great story and very fun. it just sucks that it didnt finish
@SCRiBLeZ04 Yes, the CEO's have asked him to advise the company from time to time, but he has moved on to his own company, he stated he was frustrated with Sega so he made his own company about 5-6 years ago. I presume that's where all his energy has been focused while Sega have played it safe. Pretty much every great childhood title from Sega has come from this man, they've lost someone great.
Regardless how many people loved or hated Shenmue, it was the single most greatest game regarding story, action, fighting, story telling ETC. おいゆ産。。。しぇんむえ３ちょだいおねがいします！！！！
Would be a miracle indeed to see Shenmue 3, It's been so many years since I played Shenmue 2. I seriously think there worried about it selling but trust me they have kept so many people waiting for sooo long. They will sell million units easily. Just make it happen Sega.
@Gr1m5n1p3r86 at this point I don't mind if they make it on the nintendo DS. Just release it on as many or as little platforms as you see fit and I will still be happy with the outcome.

@immortal4hm I'm not saying they're not good...even GTA is sometimes fun to play. What I meant was that they are not teaching u the same things that shenmue did. It's mostly about bashing someone's face in while getting as much blood on ur shirt as possible. They might appear similar to shenmue in some ways but shenmue delivered a unique experience because there were many different aspects to it.....without smashing a motorbike into someones head :)

Please just make Shenmue 3 Sega! So many of us have waited for the game, been loyal to the series and longed for Shenmue 3. I have other favorite games but Shenmue has always been a favorite and always will be!

I want Shenmue 3, just like everyone else. However, if its released for Xbox 360/PS3, I believe it will denote that there may never be a Dreamcast successor. I guess all good things must come to and end...
@Relugus not likely when with sega they offered it to microsoft for xbox but they said they wanted nothing to do with it after poor sales from shenmue 2 on original xbox. So i will let my hopes for a continuation to die here and now.
What killed Shenmue in sales was not Shenmue itself, it was Sega’s promoting aspect, which was NEVER Sega’s strong point. If you look at Sega’s best selling EXCLUSIVE game history (atleast 1 million copies sold), you will notice it’s a pretty short list compared to rival companies; Sonic the Hedgehog, Virtua Fighter, Soulcalibur & Crazy Taxi are Sega’s best selling memorable titles. The interesting thing is Shenmue 1 on Dreamcast sold 1.2 million copies, which is almost tied with Crazy Taxi!
If they do make shenmue 3 & that is a big if, they should only use the previous shenmue games as a basis & number 3 would need to evolve quite a bit in terms of gameplay & its pacing. Im currently playing number 2 & as much as I love it, it was way ahead of its time but now the gameplay is dated & you need ALOT of patience to deal with snail like pacing. If Yu Suzuki made number 3 the same as 1 & 2 I doubt I would buy it. Im not really botherd about the graphics as they still have its charm.
Yeah, they should release Shenmue I & II first, I think, and see how well they sell. SEGA has released the Dreamcast Collection (coulda had Shenmue instead of the fishing game wtf), so they need to release the Shenmue Collection!

Needs a big sponsor... Go on Microsoft. Please finance this and make the game popular like it deserves! Start the story again for those who don't know it and of course, improve every aspect of the game.
If they make a game like heavy rain and that sells then with the right marketing and awareness shenmue 3 should be flying off the shelves it's has so much to offer more than 200 will buy

it was originally written for over 10 games at first, then they condensed it to 6... might as well condense it further.. I dont really care as long as the series gets a proper ending.
Gosh Darnit Yu Suzuki'san... we ALL want you to make Shenmue 3! Sega: if money's the issue, just start a kickstarter and watch how Fr****n fast the donations will grow. I'd guaruntee $50 to that project, and i don't even need a reserve copy.
@damienp1988 Unfortunately, executives don't care about story, they care about money (this is a good sign though, it's good SEGA is at least considering it).
I've played Shenmue II only, my brothers were telling to stop playing it coz they saw it bad but when I was running from the giant and kicking some people they started to like it, they even wanted me to let them try it And when I finished it, I started to search for Shenmue III like crazy and I was so sad that it isn't even exists -_-
I have a feeling this is gonna actually happen. . .Bionic Commando got remade--hell, Kid Icarus got remade. . . There's no reason that this project can't happen as well.

I stumbled upon some Thief 4 screenshots for the first time in 4 years, has made me ecstatic! And they just reviewed Primordia, an excellent adventure game if your into those :) Anyway, good luck with Shenmue! And also keep in mind that PS1 games are just as easy to get and emulate. :D

@SylvanSage I don't understand what "race" has anything to do with how well the game sold. The reason why Shenmue 2 didn't sell so well was because of poor marketing during the time when it came out for Xbox, not because people didn't want to play as some Asian guy willing to avenge his father's death. The name of the game "Shenmue" already implies that it's going to be Asian-based game.....
