Get ready to dive into the world of spirits, demons, and supernatural battles as Netflix takes on the iconic anime, Yu Yu Hakusho! 🌀🔥 In this trailer breakdown, we'll cautiously explore what's in store for fans and newcomers alike, while keeping a discerning eye on the adaptation's fidelity to the beloved source material.
While some character designs stay faithful to Togashi's original art, there are subtle tweaks that might raise an eyebrow or two. Let's discuss the nuances and see if the essence of each character remains intact.
It seems like the adaptation aims to explore the Dark Tournament, Spirit World, and beyond! The trailer hints at an expansive universe, but I'm curious to see if the adaptation captures the intricate details that made the original series/anime so memorable. (It probably won't, but never hurts to hope!)
The cast is introduced, and initial impressions were mixed to say the absolute least. Can the actors capture the essence of our favorite Spirit Detectives, or will they fall short of the fans' expectations?
The devil is in the details, and fans are meticulous. Will the Netflix adaptation stay true to the nuanced storytelling, character development, and emotional depth that made Yu Yu Hakusho a timeless classic?
Adaptations can sometimes stumble. We'll cautiously explore potential pitfalls, such as pacing issues, plot deviations, or changes that might not sit well with the die-hard fanbase.
The history of live-action anime adaptations is, let's say, checkered. Can Netflix break the mold and deliver an adaptation that rises above the challenges faced by its predecessors?
Despite my cautious skepticism, there's an undeniable excitement in seeing one of my favorite anime series come to life in a new medium. Join me as we cautiously navigate the Spirit World and uncover whether this Netflix adaptation is a worthy addition to the Yu Yu Hakusho legacy!
Don't forget to subscribe, hit the notification bell, and share your thoughts in the comments below! Let's embark on this supernatural journey together.

I absolutely hate the false assumption that live action is somehow a higher form of art compared to animation, which is how I think all these adaptations get made. One piece really felt like a fluke to me and this is looking a lot like the norm of these adaptations.

The wigs aren't good. And Hiei's eyes are blue. I just realized that. my thoughts are that they're possibly having the Toguro Brothers and Saiko responsible for the makai insects. And team Toguro are going to make an appearance, be impose, form rivalries with Kurama and Hiei, and leave off with a cliff hanger for a possible second season that will focus on the dark tournament.

Oh no, Hiei's eyes are blue. Whatever shall we do? We survived Harry Potter having blue eyes instead of green. I'm sure we can find a way to get through this as well. I'm more interested about whether his characterisation and performance is accurate

We aren't going to survive with the change of eye color! This is how the world ends, not with a bang but with a blue eyed Hiei.

Honestly this looks Interesting. I’m still cautious but let’s hope for the best. Also I liked the fight with Yusuke, Kurama, and Hiei Vs Younger Toguro. Also I hope it retains the humor and heart of Yu Yu hakusho

personal thoughts here, but simple statements. When i see a Manga come to live action, I don't mind a new story. i only want one thing. I want it to NOT SUCK. I HATE one piece the manga, the anime. But i truly enjoyed the live action. same with cowboy bebop. but on the opposite side, deathnote was absolutely wretched as live action. So let's not be too picky for it's "faithful recreation" and just enjoy a show based in a world we know, with new touches. and a new story for a 25 year old manga.

For the most part I didn't have a problem with how the characters look but good point putting out the wigs. The only characters that look a little off are Kurama, Keiko and Botan and your point helped me realized that it's the wigs are not that good. I am a little disappointed in Koenma's forehead tat and Hiei's Jagan like you said. They look so cheaply designed, especially Hiei's Jagan. It's supposed to be an actual eye. I knew there was going to be pacing issues when I saw Toguro and Bui, but as much as I would have liked to see more adventures with Yusuke and Botan in the anime, it makes sense that they would remove that for the live action. I'm already prepping to see how much they're going to cut from the source material. It's going to be a LOT. Of course I'm going to rush to see this show even though I have no high hopes for it. I'm really curious to see how they handle some of the overlying themes of the source material, ie: the brotherhood of the main 4. And the music. They have to absolutely nail the music, although I'm not sure if I'd want them to keep the OG OST or have updated covers.

Finished watching YYH live action. All things considered, I hated this adaptation even more than I thought I would. The actors played each character to the best of their ability and some of the fight scenes were pretty fun. Elder Toguro actor especially played the part extremely well imo. The depiction of spirit world was also very pretty. *Potential Spoiler ahead in case you care* Besides that though, all of the characters were absolutely stripped of the nuance and thematics that made the main cast so interesting in the anime. None of the fights had the same thematic depth to them such as the kurama v karasu and Yusuke v Toguro fights. Genkai’s whole character was stripped and uninteresting, kuwabara didn’t have any of his moments of growth (Toguro “killing” him at the end felt funny more than dramatic), and Hiei’s whole character did not come close to his anime counterpart. Worst part of everything was how rushed everything came together. Trying to combine the spirit detective, yukina, and dark tournament arcs into 5 episodes made everything feel like a massive cluster fuck. First episode was fine for the most part but after I finished episode 2, I realized that this live action was not going to be anything close to what I hoped it would’ve been.

I for one am cautiously optimistic. I honestly was prepared to despise the trailer and prepare to drink myself through the first episode like I did to survive sitting through the nightmare that was Cats (granted, Cats is a AWFUL musical to start with so I never in a million years thought it would work at all, but that's a whole other story.) But the YYH trailer surprised me with how decent it looks. I think people are going WAY overboard with some of the nitpicking, like Koenma's pacifier being a slightly different shade (yes, I saw someone online have a heart attack over this) and Botan's hairstyle being different. The wig sucks and it's not in a ponytail, but it's still blue. I think we'll live. (Than again, people went ballistic over Luffy having shoes instead of sandals in One Piece, so...yeah.) As for the pacing, that's a bit of a concern, but I personally theorise that some of the stuff with Toguro, Bui and Karasu MIGHT be part of when they're 'invited' to the Dark Tournament. A ways of building up the rivalry a little more, which sounds reasonable enough. I could be wrong though. It's just a theory. I have plenty of thoughts on how the characters look, but I think their performance and characterisation is more important. As long as they're basically accurate to what Togashi wrote, then I can grudgingly tolerate the awful wigs, costumes etc. And to be honest, it's worth keeping in mind that the budget for Japanese Netflix is nowhere near what American productions get. All this being said, I'm willing to give this a chance. Adapting a manga/anime to live action is incredibly hard to do. Live action is a completely different medium. There's a different person at the helm, a different vision and some things simply don't work on film. The director has been upfront that they are sticking closer to the manga. I highly recommend checking out both stage adaptations, they are excellent IMO but they changed things too in order to adapt to live theatre. Worst case scenario, Netflix YYH will almost certainly drive new people to the manga/anime, and that can only be a good thing. I'm more than willing to watch this with an open mind. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

I am cautiously optimistic. Netflix always flubs trailers and makes them super bad, however I am worried about the pacing from how many bits and pieces from quite a few arks. Although, it is a TV show and I am okay with changes being made to adapt it, as long as care is taken and the heart and soul of the original material is highlighted not erased.

I am also cautiously optimistic. I am just curious as to how they are going to go through this many plot points so quickly. I also agree that it's going to be either good, or awful. The worst it can be is forgettable. I do think I remember seeing kuawbara running from one of the beasts that Byakko creates from his hair, so maybe we'll get the spirit ring donut!

😂I’m cautiously optimistic about the future of live-action adaptations in TV and movies, especially when it comes to anime. However, the trailers for this adaptation have me a bit concerned; the pacing seems rushed, almost skipping crucial character development to dive straight into the 'exciting' parts. It's that character depth that gives weight and meaning to the darker, thrilling moments, and I fear it might be overlooked here.

You realize that the beginning of Yu Yu Hakusho is the worst part, right? The series has zero momentum while Yusuke is doing ghost tasks to get his life back. Netflix cutting that entire section out would be great for pacing.

good video, but i must say, i don't agree about Yusuke's personality. while it's possible they'll mess it up, that's not really what i'm referring to. you say Yusuke is rather snarky, but i wouldn't really agree. he never really has a smart wit about him except for in battle, and rather than clever comebacks, he's more the type to go "i'll beat the hell out of you!" or "an old hag?!". of course, there is the famously awful english dub (well, of all studios it was done by Funimation, so it's no wonder said dub turned out pretty bad.) where they give Yusuke MCU-esque constant quipping, as if the translators were too afraid to take anything seriously so they constantly threw in annoying jokes that landed flat, but that's hardly representative of the original work, yaknow?

@@Green-3c34y65vrbu well, each to their own opinion. Generally speaking that dub is beloved by the fan base, with the majority saying they prefer it to the original Japanese, and that it’s one of the few anime they only watch in English. It’s far from “famously awful.” Personally I don’t agree with you in the slightest that it’s “terrible” . At all. But like I said, it’s a matter of personal preference. Dubs don’t suck anymore. They haven’t for a long time. And it’s worth remembering that at the time anime dubbing was a fairly new thing , and without those early missteps we wouldn’t have the quality we do now, and it’s because of those early dubs that a LOT of people were introduced to anime in the first place. I certainly was. Everyone is free to enjoy anime in whatever version they want. I genuinely enjoy subbed and dubbed anime. I just have preferences when it comes to certain anime and performances. Demon Slayer, Japanese even though I really dig Zach Aguilar as Tanjiro. My Hero Academia, I enjoy the sub, but I absolutely adore the dub and think it’s perfectly cast. Same with Fairy Tail and Fruits Basket. DBZ, I prefer in English because it’s what I grew up with and the way the quality of it has improved over the years is amazing. But give me the sub version of Your Name any day of the week Z
