And no need to drive, you can take a nice little aircon shuttle bus called AutoProgreso from Mérida (the station is a short walk from the plaza grande, on calle 62). They leave every hour and take you there and back in about 50 minutes for 23 pesos one way, 46 round trip. The station in Progreso is near the lighthouse right in the center. Perfect for a day trip! 🤔😎🌴🚎
Progreso is starting to receive Disney cruises and the town had to redo a lot of the main areas to keep that contract … they have done so much in the last couple of years .. love this place thanks for coming back so I can see the most recent changes … my family spent the winter not far from there 😀
Hacienda Sotuta de Peon is just south of Merida and is a wonderful working hacienda to tour to learn all about henequen. SO funny that you thought you could drive directly east to Progreso along the shore. "We should've looked at Google maps," OR you could've asked me HEEHEE!!! When I saw that you hit Sisal and Progreso in the same day I did wonder :) Little ankle waves because the water is so shallow for so far out. Great shorts of you guys getting in the water! So proud of everything that's been done here for the mobility challenged people. That building is a museum and we are all waiting impatiently for it to open. It will highlight (apparently) the Chicxulub crater that eliminated all the dinosaurs. Oh yes, this is a cruise ship port! There are currently no vegan restaurants in Progreso. I expect that to change in the next year. David, there are next to no big waves here. And if you guys are going to come here "every weekend" (cuz I know you won't haha) let me know, I'd love to meet up! You caught the place that has the BEST breeze every here at 13:46. That "little kids' amusement park is open most nights now and is new. It wasn't here when you were last time. I can probably give you a few tips on the "beautifulness," :)
Wow- I was in Progresso over 14yrs ago and let me tell you … there was absolutely nothing. I was actually surprised for being a beach town. I wasn’t impressed but I love being by the water (and water was bette than Galveston water here in Texas). Love to see more on Progresso 🙌🏼🥳
I don't know why I torture myself watching videos about Progreso, but I do. My wife and I were spending about a month there every winter before "that which shall not be named". I really miss it. I see from your video that there have been a lot of changes in that time. You were lucky to be there on a non cruise ship day. Things get a little hectic when there is. I would usually spend those days either in the pool at our rental, or take the bus to Merida for the day. You might also want to check out Chicxulub and the story of the meteor that hit there 65 million years ago. I had actually discovered Progreso by accident on my way to Chicxulub. I flew from Saskatchewan to Cancun, took the bus to Merida, took another bus to Progreso, and walked to Chicxulub. All just to stand in the centre of a meteor crater that you can't see anymore.
Love Sisal, great video! Most restaurants can improvise a vegan meal by making a cheese-less quesadilla with mushroom avocado or guac, onion, a side of refried or black beans, chips and salsa. Not the most imaginative but can do in a pinch! This is what I ate at one of the seaside restaurants there. But no doubt you’ve already figured that out ☺️
I was in Progresso Feb 2019 and it was a quiet, sleepy town too, but I loved the clear warm water, glad to see it's being built up some more! Head to Celestun and do the Flamingo tour....
I'm really of two minds about Progreso in 2023. On the one hand, I'm tremendously proud of it for the progress it seems to have made since I grew up there. On the other hand, I worry that in a few years I won't recognize the Progreso that was in the Progreso that is. I understand some things just have to be done to get along in the new world, but I will miss Old Progreso, too.
We were just in Progreso last week. You are right the Vegan scene is lacking, but Progreso is awesome, especially the beach. We ended up going to Ginger’s Jungle Rescue and ordering a grilled vegetable wrap, a side salad, and a margarita. The cook actually came out to speak with us since I asked for no cheese in the wrap or on the salad. Turns out their mushrooms, (for the wrap), were done in a cream sauce, so he asked if we would like potatoes substituted instead. We said yes, and it was fabulous! Hey, if you really are looking to buy a place on the beach, give Parrish with Caban Condos a shout, they are supposed to have a new development in the works soon.
Wonderful video, David and Travis! We love Progreso and plan to go to Sisal when we can. We split our time between Miami and our home in Campeche, soon to transition to full time expat life. It would be great to meet you two someday! Best wishes
Wow…Im scared of Progreso it definitely looks like they have stepped up their game. We were told its not even worth the visit however its on our list now when going back to Merida 👍, Thanks boys for sharing the update of Progreso.
I just checked your drone footage more carefully. At 9:12 there is a yellow building in the lower left corner with something red parked on the street in front of it. The crescent shaped opening you can see in the side of the building was our balcony!
Hi guys, it's been a minute since the last time I seen your videos, having 2 jobs it's hard to catch up, but I've miss you both and Thank you for the videos it always excited to see them, greetings from Chicago.🤗🙏🏽
I love Progresso, great food. Nice to see it’s getting Nicer . Can’t wait to see more. You guys should go to Hubiku About 1 hr from Merida as a day trip.
Thank you so much for sharing ! You both are lovely . I’ve recently had 2 big losses in my life so I’m looking for something calm and quiet . I was thinking a 6 days in Merida And 2 days in progresso . Do you think 2 days is enough in progresso or 3? We have a lot of vacation time so that is not an issue . Thank you ♥️
The new building will be the museum of geology….and the improvements of the malecon is apparently a request from the cruise ships industry as travellers found Progreso to be a tad run down !! Haste luego …Xo
Progreso looks so much better than in your last video. I'm not a fan of cruise ship places, but it doesn't look over built like PV. Surprised there are no plant-based options yet. Gracias por el video.
Hola Café con Leche. Not Rubin it in but I was in Merida October 2021 for 3 weeks and went to Progreso 3 times. I love it. The building is a Mayan Museum and yes all 3 major cruise lines dock at that great pier. Due to Covid only Carnival has been there so far this year. Am back in Merida and will definetly be visiting Progreso again and again. Can you please visit Telchac beach would love to know about that one. Enjoy your videos! Keep them coming.
Hello guys! Yes progreso is beautiful! I also live in Mérida since 2013, so I recomend you to go to Costa club Issstey this a beautiful 3 stars hotel front beach with best beach in progreso I suggest you just to pay the day pass is approximately 10 USD per person from 10am to 8pm and once you get your ticket, the restaurant gives you on your meals a free cash back of 5 USD, in that place you'll find 3 pools, private beach, a beautiful view of the pier and the marina, a small water park for kids, a little supermarket, palapas, sun chairs and more! I also recommend you to go to the marina kinuh is located 20 minutes from there, it is a beautiful small village luxury hotel into a amazing exclusive marina with the best food in it's restaurant, the suite's night is 100 USD and also is beachfront, well cafeinos that's all for now, take care and thank you for your videos, see you next time, hasta luego!
The Riviera Maya is a tourism and resort district south of Cancun, Mexico. It straddles the coastal Federal Highway 307, along the Caribbean coastline of the state of Quintana Roo, located in the eastern portion of the Yucatán Peninsula.
Thank you for comparing these two beach towns! Sisal seemed a little sleepier than I expected. Out of curiosity, how do the waves in Sisal compare to the waves in Progreso?
There is an Indian place in Progreso that sometimes has vegan specials (among a lot of everything else)....Saboreando Comida India. Also some Vegan baked good at Vita World, which is an organic food store. But all in all, it's slim pickin's.
From what we‘ve heard, Progreso/Merida doesn’t get many direct hurricanes (although the weather patterns have been changing lately with the rest of the climate so 🤷♂️)
I have a beach house in Puerto Chicxulub and the changes over the last 25 years in Progreso are VAST and about time, when we're ,my wife {Born and raised in Merida, we met in Studio City} and I back in Aug. pop in?,,,check out Salvardo Alavardo in Merida it has a great neighborhood vibe ? ,,,GREAT VIDS , TY and please keep them coming!!
Great video ya’ll. I went to Progresso when I visited Mérida. It was beautiful 🤩 I hear there is a beach 🏖 club in Progresso. If you hear about it, let me know where it is. Thank you 🙏🏾 guys!!
Hi guys as far as eating where ever you may be, rice beans tortillas and a salad and some salsa works very well from any restaurant vegan or not. Many restaurants also have roasted vegetables you can have with rice beans and tomatoes and tortillas And some great salsas. I have been vegan way before they had vegan eatery, and I must say I have never had a problem finding thing I could eat at any restaurant. Don’t make it hard on yourself lol🤣
Haha we definitely know about rice, beans and veggies! We eat them all the time as well when we’re out - but love when we find dedicated vegetarian / vegan spots!
Can I ask? Using the normal short term visa, is it allowed to leave the country and visit some of the island states to the east of Mexico and then come back?
It used to be buuut not anymore - if you’re planning on living here even part time, then you’ll need a temporary residency visa. If you’re just visiting every so often, then a tourist visa works just fine!
I'm I've been watching until I come I'm landing in Cancun on the 6th of June I'm staying there for two nights but I'm thinking more who did playaCarmen or progresso it's too hot in Merida and I'm a Pisces so I love the water any suggestions I guess Airbnb after I stay at the Marriott courtyard I'm single so hook a brother up
Questions for you guys, love the channel but we were initially thinking Sisal as the hot spot. Now it seems as if Progreso is definitely on the come up and more inviting than Sisal. And what's the deal with Chicxulub? Is this pretty much the same as Progreso or different? Thanks
haha - we haven't been to Chicxulub yet but have heard wonderful things. Sisal is nice if you're not looking for a whole lot other than beautiful beach but yeah - Progreso is much more built up!
@@TravelWTravis Thanks for the reply guys! Heading to Progreso or Chicxulub for November and then spending December in Merida with the wife. When you guys make it to Chicxulub, let's us know if spending a month would be more enjoyable in Progreso or Chicxulub! Thanks a bunch!
There are more amenities in Progreso than Chicxulub ie grocery stores, restaurants, and 2 malecons; international malecon and the traditional malecon which is currently being updated.
Hi I own a home in Progreso. Chicxulub is really small compared to Progreso. For groceries, restaurants, shopping, entertainment, etc. you would probably go to Progreso. Which is fine because Chicxulub is really just like a suburb of Progreso. There is no break between the two. But if you are looking at rentals I would choose to stay in Progreso somewhere between Calle 48 and Calle 76. North of Calle 27. Then you are within walking distance of everything in the nicest part of town and can always Uber out to see Chicxulub. Don’t be too fooled by the lack of waves other guys found in the summer. In December through February The whole gulf coastline gets what are called Nortés, periods of three or four days when there are big cold winds and often torrential rain. The winds and waves are so big that Progreso is world renowned for wind surfing! Enjoy your visit to Merida and Progreso. You will fall in love!
We recommend staying in Centro if you've never visited Merida before, but don't have any specific hotel or AirBnb recommendations - there's so many to choose from, it really just depends on your budget/preferences!
@@TravelWTravis Great, thanks guys. Was thinking about staying a few months in the beach area north of Merida, and treat you guys like my forward reconnaissance! Much appreciated.
