Yugoslav Spomeniks (Part 10): Southeastern Serbia

16. April - 16. May 2024. Serbia (Србија). Southern and Eastern Serbia Region.
This video documents 5 days within a month, 5 days driving around in southeastern Serbia looking for Yugoslav-era spomeniks (monuments). I found (6) of them. The spomeniks are World War II memorial sculptures that were part of a grand project of Tito's to unify socialist Yugoslavia in the aftermath of the NOB. Estimates put the number of such spomeniks built at up to 40,000. These communist works of art are unique and beautiful and often abandoned.
The places I rolled through are Niš (Ниш), Grkinja (Гркиња), Vranjska Banja (Врањска Бања), Vranje (Врање), Vladičin Han (Владичин Хан), Vlasotince (Власотинце), & Leskovac (Лесковац).
Special shoutout to Donald Niebyl and his spomenikdatabase.org; without his thorough work, it would be a far greater task to locate these monuments and the learn the stories behind them.

My favorit spice comes from that city in serbia. It is a yellow one all around spice :) we eat it alot in sweden

Damn, i am from Serbia but i didnt know they were doing the Montenegro tricks of having you pay for the toilet. This is standard practice in Europe, but if you buy fuel, coffee or whatever you buy, you take the receipt and scaan it on the entrance of the toilet and the gate opens. Those toilets are cleaner than my toilet at home and i think its a good thing, if you are stopping on their station, you cant just take a dump and eff off, i think its fine to do this, especially because you can buy one water for 40 cents and the whole car can take turns taking a dump with a same receipt.

@@FastEddieDice I would ask for the "Knjiga utisaka", which translates to "book of impressions", most businessses have them and you write what is your opinion of their business. Mostly are just kids drawing art, but they read it and if you write you will never stop there again because of the paid toilet despite being a customer, they will feel bad as they should and over time they will stop. Especially since people regularly make a scene over this kind of stuff, they will be fed up with confrontations at some point.

Na 99% toalet besplatan ali na granicama koriste "gužvu" i naplaćuju. Lično ne znam gde se još upotreba toaleta naplaćuje u Srbiji na benzinskim stanicama...

@@FastEddieDice Sramota,ali zaista sramota. U cenu svih proizvoda na pumpi pa i samog goriva uračunati su svi mogući troškovi. Još kada napraviš račun od 80€ pa minimum kafa ili jelkica treba da se dobije ili upotreba toaleta. Ovako,sramota....
