Yuja just seems to “get” Prokofiev in a way that so few other pianists do. It’s difficult to put into words, but it’s as if she knew him and they were dear friends, and that he wrote these extraordinary piano works just for her, knowing everything she was capable of, and that she performed them knowing everything he was trying to say. ❤
Yes! I'm embarrassed to admit I didn't taken her seriously earlier, given the number of truly great pianists coming into maturity over the last 20 years. We are so showered with fantastic performers, and yet a few rise risen higher than most. Yuja is one of perhaps three or four who does that!
What a talent❤No matter how tired I am, when I hear this piece, my blood is boiling, my whole world is shaking… I am back to live and hopeful again. Thank you Yuja !!!
My wife and I and many friends from all over the world were there. It was the final concert of the Verbier Festival and the Highlight of the Festival. She played Prokofieff 3 AND 5 in one (!) concert! The day before they needed two pianists for Prokofieff 1 and 2...... She's simply incompearable!
Bananas for sure. If you know classical period you'll find your mind and fingers will be challenged by P's convolutions, sarcasm and the many ways he blows up conventions. He blew it up. Nothing but secondary explosions and debris since.
Impossible! Brilliant Yuja is connected completely with Noseda and the entire orchestra, immersed in Prokofiev's painfully beautiful music. Thank you for this unforgettable experience!
Well she is particularly good with some composers, but there are so many other hidden talents, so a clear no, just don't exaggerate despite admiring her ahaha
I have watched/listened to 18 different piano concertos performed by Yuja Wang. I agree with those who say she is simply the greatest classical pianist performing today. Brava Yuja!
Yuja Wang and the entire Verbier Festival Orchestra deserve credit for bringing to life, the beauty of Prokofiev's Concerto #3. What a glorious performance!
I had to smile when, in the first movement where the orchestra plays several straight repeated chords for that impossible all-over-the-keyboard run setup, the conductor had them play at a moderate tempo and she just took off with her solo. It’s fun to watch him catching up. Bravissima, Ms Wang ❤️❤️❤️
I don’t typically listen to this sorta music but just watching this video was such a brow raise to me, the way her fingers are so quick and precise and the fact she doesn’t even have a music sheet amazes me so much! Truly a talented and powerful woman with passion for her skills!
@@clairejin1704 Oh haha that's not immediately apparent in this music and can easily be concealed, but she is unquestionably an amazing, exceptional pianist who knows how to create real magic and great musical context in her playing. It is admittedly a real treat. Moreover, this rather more percussive music suits her particularly well.
Absolute masterpiece played by an angel,an inspiring journey into the composers mind, joyful beyond belief!!!, one of my favorite concerto’s ever!! Well done!!!!! Bravo!!!!!
My absolute favorite piano concerto. It might not be the most grandiose piano concerto but that’s why I love it. I also love the idea of having the second movement be a theme and variations instead of a typical slow movement. Wish more concertos adopted that idea
Yuja is really flying here What a talent How does she memorise so much complex work from so many diverse composers She truly is a phenomenon of the most wonderful kind ❤️
CAN WATCH AND LISTEN AGAIN AND AGAIN….A WONDERFULLY AND ENERGETIC MUSICIANS, GREAT CONDUCTOR, MASTERFUL TALENT OF YUJ. A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE FOR ANYONE WORTH THEIR SALT IN ENJOYING THIS GREAT TALENT.
I EXPERIENCE A GREAT PLEASURE TO LISTEN TO YUJA AND HER PIANO…..AND THE ENERGY IT GIVES ME AS AN OIL PAINTING ARTIST, ITS UNBELIEVABLE, THANK YOU DEAR YUJA.
IMHO she is currently the best interpreter of Prokofiev's piano repertoire. And possibly Rachmaninoff's too. She "gets" Prokofiev in a deep way - the balance of arch humor and superlative craftsmanship. She captures the clarity, crispness, and detail of his writing.
Thank you so much Yuma, you are incredible and amazing and awesome too…..that was an amazing performance and you showed such incredible passion and sensitivity too. Please stay safe and well too xxx Mags
I find I listen to this time and time again. This is a brilliant and beautiful performance. Thank you Yuja and the conductor for such a wonderful performance.😅❤
Did you see the grin on Yuja's face when she finished the 2nd movement? She was pleased with that performance. As well she should be. I've heard prokofiefv's 3rd many times by many different piano virtuosos. Yuja plays the 3rd symphony exactly and precisely as Prokofiev intended. She is so fast and accurate that she is in a class all by herself. I cannot imagine the practice, sore hands, and the hours of intense discipline that could have produced such a pianist as Yuja.
@@pjbpianoI was going to say when I was in the prep department at SFCM I had most of my repertory learned by the time I was 17 and ready to go on to a conseravatory. Conservatory students get so much music thrown at them.
I just got through six performances of this concerto including Prokofiev himself. I’m not a huge fan of hers, but I have to give credit to her left hand in the final five minutes. That’s where all the fun is -pure jazz. As to how it stacks up against Prokofiev’s…not sure it matters. As with the Devine Martha, this one knows how to keep the clip up in the final two minutes until you’re ready to levitate. Prokofiev’s and the otherwise gorgeous Trifonov opt for a more huge concert-hall (& slower) finale. But how incredible it is to have all these performers on RU-vid! Thanks to all making this possible!!
Outstanding rendering of this classical concerto from the beginning of the XX-th century, both by the soloist, the orchestra and the perfect balance between them.
Thank you for uploading this! Good musicians having a great time and you can hear the joy, orchestra, conductor and the magnificent Ms Wang. This was a gem!
I just listened to Marta Argerich's wonderful version with Dutoit and the Japanese orchestra; this one is at least as good, a touch faster, and with Yuja's absurdly crisp articulations. The piece itself is so various and rhythmically sophisticated, the twentieth century at its best.
All her performances of the 5 Prokofiev cnocertos for piano should come with a warning " Listening too often to these performances may damage your nervous system " . Yuja Wang is simply unsurpassable as a peformer of these wonderful concertos. Her manual dexterity is just from another planet.
Bravo to the Verbier Festival Orchestra for being able to mostly keep up with Yuja's tempo!! She is the best! The very best redition of this concerto, IMHO, is the one she gave with the Berlin Phil in Lucern Festival just few short weeks after this concert.
Sublime Yuja, la joie de vivre ; elle possède toute l'énergie nécessaire pour interpréter ce concerto endiablé . Noseda conduit le tout de main de maître. Quel bonheur.
Lucky you! Your first time you heard the best rendition of this concerto -- in my mind her Prokofiev's concerti are truly out of this world. Excitement, passion, and dynamics delivered with unbelievable pyrotechnical prowess is the hallmark of Yuja's Prokofiev.
Wang is a fully turbo-charged dynamo. I think she cut 3 minutes off the normal running time of this piece. Just the hand for this piece that is the essential piano driven escapade. Awe Inspiring drive.
@@Hervinbalfour Exhilarating by all accounts! - it's fun to watch virts play this (i swear it brings out their Inner Child!) It might fit the hands, but I think P's mischievousness results in convoluted patterns which do not fit the brain well! - learning those at proper speed is beyond muscle memory. And those gliss at the end? I slop thru them playing the notes like arpeggios as scored. I can't imagine playing them as gliss, my fingers would not endure the practice. ALSO, when playing as a solo, have tried to figure out how to incorporate the single orchestral notes which are a major part.
Jack Nicholson warned Heath Ledger about performing The Joker in Batman. Someone should warn Yuja about playing Prokofiev. Her performances of his music are spine chilling. Yuja is so exciting to hear and watch ❤
