5 On It, especially the remix is the quintessential Bay Area rap anthem. Richie Rich’s line “Where you from…?” allows a crowd to shout out their own town. Perfect Dj moment to hit the mute button lol So much regional love in the video. Even Channel Live, KRS’s old protégés (if you’re a deep hip hop head, you’ll remember them) an NYC crew was in the video! I noticed this only a few years ago upon watching it again and wondered who the two dudes with dreads were. I always thought it was bizarre for them to be in attendance, but that’s the power of weed and good hip hop music!

I interviewed Yuk for my college newspaper. Probably around 1996-97. I asked him about the beef with Master P. And even back then, it was all rap heat; not street beef. This was during the heights of No Limit, when Master P was definitely winning at the bank and in record stores. And Yuk took it all in stride.

Growing up in the Bay I only heard the remix and never heard the original until I was a teen. Still low key prefer the remix due to all the Bay flavor all over it. You can't hate on the Luniz, E-40, Dru Down, Shock G, Richie Rich, and Spice 1 all on one track.
