Thank you for that idea. I had so much trouble with my low back protesting while i was pulling dirt up on the plants this year and we have a cabinet shop! There’s wind to blow them but if I wet the shavings down, that should help.
Digging for potatoes is my favorite thing to do in the garden too! While I was watching I had to put down my crocheting so I didn’t miss one potato coming out of the ground. So enjoyable, thank you for this.
So many homesteaders do not let their potatoes completely die off. You guys know how to garden potatoes. Your whole garden is looking good. God bless.♥️🇺🇲
Thank you for sharing. You are encouraging us to learn and continue with our small garden in the city in the backyard. We tried raised beds the last two years with some success. This year we are going back to the ground. Thanks again. Houston and Texas Proud
I watch a lot of homesteading videos and by far, y'all are the hardest working homesteaders on RU-vid. Please don't do so much that it isn't fun anymore. Don't let get to be so much that it becomes a burden. I wish you to always, always enjoy your life, and thank you so much for what you do for the rest of us.
Thanks for sharing. I love the way y'all work together. Such sweet people. Your area and soil looks alot like where I live, North East Texas. Keep up the great worj.....work...... Jeff
Rewatched your green bean with potatoes canning video. I loved how the Yukon Golds processed with the grean beans. Working hard to grow our own groceries in our small raised/container garden. Thanks for the encouragement. Remember ya'll to Pray, Plan, Prep
Thank you Mr and Mrs H!! I watched you two plant these potatoes a couple months ago and I'm glad I got the notification today that you are now harvesting!! Amazing!! I watched your videos and I use organic blood meal and organic bone meal with earthworm castings and I tell you my squash plants have gotten so huge!! I couldn't believe just these 3 ingredients can help your plants grow!! Thank you for that!! I appreciate you both for being very knowledgeable ❤❤❤ my heart is full!! I love growing my own food..last year I wasn't very successful but this year!! Wow is all I can say!!
I like the potato harvest from the boxes better than in ground. I have a hard time getting down on the ground. At this time can I still plant potatoes?
Put a plastic jar container in the hay….. 1/2 cup water, 2 tablespoons borax, 2 tablespoons sugar. Drill small holes one inch up from the bottom of the jar!!! This saved my garden!!!!
I love azure. And I love yall. Mrs. H I LOVE YOUR LAUGH and your teaching skills. Mr. H I LOVE YOU CAUSE YOU ARE SO SWEET AND RESPECTFUL TO MRS. H. You are an amazing supporter to your beautiful wife. We need a whole lot more of Mrs. And Mr. H's in this world.
Mr. & Mrs. H.: You guys need a spading fork for digging potatoes instead of a pitch fork which is usually only used for moving hay, straw and manure from barns. It would make your work a little easier when digging root crops.
Love seeing how your abundant knowledge, and diligence pays off! How in God's green earth do You eat all that food? Do you have a road Side stand? How are the mornings Oliver era trees doing? Fabulous amazing good work and results💖
Mrs. H use words you can understand like TOXIC. Other channels say stuff like "there bad for you" hearing that phrase people would only say I'll do what I want. Mrs. H say it's gonna kill yah 😂😂😂😂
Just something my daughter sent me about food being changed under our noses. Minie marshmallows brand walmart. On package bio engineering talapia fish added. Couldn't believe it. Quit along time due to diabetes. Eat from the garden. Blessing
You both are amazing and I wish my husband would help me in our garden. You both work great together like my grandparents. Their garden looked like yours . Thank you for sharing your all with us. God bless you both.
I have a feeling that you are going to have a whole row of potatoes sprouting up somewhere between in front of where Mr H had his knees and where his knuckles under his supporting hand was. But very nice harvest anyway. I did very large grow bags and the first ones leaves are just now starting to yellow but not really dying back yet. Hoping for a 4th of July harvest because it's the red white and blue ones all in the same bag but honestly I had some real yummy Andouille sausage from Azure for dinner last night and all I kept thinking about was getting me some "new" potatoes out of the first bag. I was able to restrain myself but I don't know for how much longer 😂
I’m really diggin that farm life ASMR!!! Congratulations on the amazing harvest!!!! Thank you for taking us along for the journey! I put my taters in dog food bags that I put plenty of drain holes in. I didn’t get many and the last 3 plants just died back. I’m not hopeful that they gave me anymore than the 1 I already got off the other 2 plants. We shall see. I’m gonna either amend my soul with some sand or plant in boxes next year. Thank you for keeping me inspired!!! 🙏🏼💚 ~Sweet Baby D
Meanwhile the rooster is crowing like "ain't nobody coming to see you, otis!" 😂😂 Thanks for documenting the tater journey. I'm going to try the cardboard boxes for fall.
I use food grade diatomaceous earth in the garden to kill ants. Works really well. Your potato harvest is fantastic. Love watching your videos. Informative and entertaining.
Anybody notice how Mr. H was trying to let Mrs. H discover what he already uncovered? LOL I just think that was so sweet. He probably figured she wants to show it on video. At one point she catches him. "What are you doin'? She says. Anyway- Potatoes are my favourite veggie! Does that count? LOL We are all learning a lot from this.
This year I found something that works on the ants. Four boiled egg yoke's, 1Tablespoon honey and 1 tablespoon borax. ( I use the cheaper eggs from the dollar general store and not my good country eggs). Mix it all up and spread around the nest and wherever you see them. They carry it back to the nest and it eventually kills the queen and the eggs. I only had to repeat it three times. It worked REAL good for me. Hope that helps someone. Happy gardening and happy canning season on the way 😊. Your garden It looks really pretty. I live on the side of the mountain and my soil is extremely Rocky so we have to use raised beds and it's doing really good this year. Guess that's why we call it Rocky top Tennessee.😮
Ants help aerate the ground, help it from getting compacted, as well as allow water to get deeper in...they do have a purpose we can appreciate...just like worms. Fire ants are a bit more challenging to appreciate as those bites really hurt and are not just an annoyance.
Ok, I started watching you two 2 hours ago when you first posted, then I paused to go out to my balcony garden to pop my bell pepper seedlings into the planters. I, also transplanted some Brussel Spouts...I had too many in one planter, not realizing how bug they get. The weather in Michigan is crazy again this year, cold to hot to cold again. Anyway, I gardened early before the thunderstorms coming today. Thank you for the inspiration❤ I did plant potatoes last week & I'll do more in grow bags tomorrow! It's a big payoff if you just try. I'm better this year than last year.🤸🏽♀️ Thank you!
If the ants don’t want the potatoes, then neither do I. The fact that there are so many ants means your potatoes are super good! I love those creamy chewy Yukon Golds!!!! I wont eat any other potato!!!❤
MMM-HMMM. YEP. That settles it. I'm convinced Mr H keeps having these "incidents" that make it impossible to store your spuds... ON PURPOSE!! Just like I said yesterday with your reds. Mmm-hmmm. You must make some BODACIOUS mashed potatoes!! 😂 Poor Mr H. He's HUNGRY!! 🤭 ❤❤
I think Mr H stabbed that big potato on purpose……😜 I’m with you Mr H! Nothing better than some good creamy potatoes or a big baked potato…… Just don’t “accidentally “ stab any more! 😂😂 My wife and I love watching y’all! And the animals!!! ❤
Beautiful harvest🥰 How often do you water your potatoes while they are growing?? Does the soil need to continually stay moist?? Also, do you fertilize your potato soil once during planting time, or multiple times during their growing season??? Sorry for all the questions, I just wanna make sure I'm growing potatoes correctly🥰❤️. Thx
Nice harvest. I planted Yukon gold potatoes April 11th, in buckets they are almost ready to harvest, but I didn’t cover with hay will do that the next time…
By the grace of God what a lovely way to say it Mrs. H! Beautiful potato harvest, and I’m curious how old are you Mrs.H because girl you are getting up and down and on your knees for sooo long and not one moan or groan when you get up!! I can tell Mr. H. is in fine physical condition but if you don’t mind me saying you are in exemplary condition as well!! I don’t know how you were able to stay on your knees for extended periods of time like that?! I’m 56 and have had five back surgeries so I moan and groan each time I get up but I am truly impressed by your fantastic amount of hard work you are capable of doing. Congratulations on your harvest from the one bed, do you think the red tint on them are from over fertilizing them and not enough water? Looks like you have a pound of potatoes per foot? That’s my guesstimate. 🥰❤️🙏🏻🇨🇦
I did a quick search, and potatoes apparently can cross seed one another. It could be you ended up mixing your reds & golds. Another reason for streaks is cold times during their growth. Mind you, I don't think the mixing of those two potatoes is a bad thing, but it would explain why many folks have their varieties on other sides of the yard/field. In WW1 & 2, victory gardens and gardens placed in city parks, cemeteries, and empty lots made up 40% of the grocery needs of people. If you recognize you can't do more than 40%, it is easy to see how businesses won't fail if they stop being so greedy! If a person is able to make enough, awesome. If not, don't sweat it. It is how it works, what matters is how you plan and handle your choices. Thank you for sharing and showing how both cardboard and ground grown potatoes give quite a large amount of food!
Miss Marie and Mr Heart, I LOVE BIG potatoes then we only need to cook 2 for Miss Sharon and Me. You All grew some pretty potatoes.... I like your sandy soil as the potatoes come out so smooth and clean looking... Rick in Pa.
Ms. H. I saw a animal tunnel, under one of your potato plants it looked like the mole tunnels I constantly deal with, not so much now since I planted 45 sticks of juicy fruit after early this year when they had made a maze of our back yard with their tunnels in just a couple of days I must of had a whole tribe, after the next heavy rain they all sank down and no new tunnels until Spring 1st sign of a new tunnel I planted 10 more sticks. One keeps moving in every couple of months and I keep buying juicy fruit gum. LOL I haven't had voles so I don't know what their tunnels look like. Glad you didn't have any damaged potatoes.
Thanks for sharing Mr. & Mrs. H 6-13-2023❤. When planting vegetables inside a grow bag in my Apartment with it bring bugs if so I can not grow Vegetables in my Apartment can you help me pls. I am in the learning stage. I like the smaller potatoes 🥔 they are Sweeter to me and a better taste. I am rooting a sweet potato I put the whole potato in water and the roots are coming out now but not enough to Plant., I need help I Read A lot
Yukons with red skin are red golds(red Yukons)… what’s a neat surprise. I wonder if those will keep turning red(into full red golds) or if they’ll stop. I’ve never grown them I’ve only read about them
I love how many herbs and stuff you grow, ginger and turmeric. I've been scared to grow that kind of stuff. I wish my husband liked to garden, sure looks easier and faster with two people. Great harvest!
I'm wondering if those potato plants wouldn't have given up more fruit if they had been wetter. Not criticizing by any means, cuz I don't know all the facts here, but that soil looks pretty dry. Could be that's just how it is there. I live in the usually rainy Northwest and potatoes grow really well here. I don't know a thing about gardening in the south. Love you all. And I'm so thankful for all you share. And I just learned that the true Yukon golds have that pinkish tint to them. Blessings
I've got some sweet potatoes growing in planting bags on the porch. I ordered the fertilizers that you suggested. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge! ❤
