Oh, question: have you ever tried bringing the fish around the front of the kayak and over to the left side so you can net them without having to switch hands holding the rod? I started doing that with the big Pickeral I get here in the Pocono Mountains of PA and it works well, so maybe that would help you net the fish faster...Just a thought..Thanks!

Good job at my home town. When you saw all those bass under bridge it used to be 4 and 5 feet deep before they built the new bridge. They ruined it but it's still reproducing. And smallies are in their too. Just not like it was 30 years ago. Wish they would've left the flow alone.

I use 5/8" shrink tube cut in 3 /4" length. I then use my heatgun and shrink each length down onto a 5/16" diameter socket and dip them in cool water and remove.. The shrink tube slides easily over Yum worm and I locate it at the hook end of the slot and use heat gun to snug to worm . Slide hook through shrink tube and worm and through the shrink tube again and align hook perpendicular to worm . I caught 6 bass on same worm and the worm still looks new ...no splits ,tears or anything and every bass gulped it down, no lip hooks all throat hooks. I could probably catch 20 fish on same worm , hooking them by splitting them length wise tears them up too badly , plus , I get wiggle action from both ends of the worm each time i twitch it .... Oh yeah , I forgot to tell you that I helped my Wife catch bluegills between casts for bass and we still only fished for 2 hours off the bank .... Yum Lubbers are irresistible to Bass , I caught those bass on less than 15 casts . The largest bass was 4 1/4 lb and the smallest was 1 3/4 lbs.

John: try this instead of O-rings for whacky rigging and you'll never lose another Yum Dinger. Get 1/4" or 3/8" heat shrink tubing (black or clear). Using your scissors, snip off a piece of heat shrink tube about 3/8" to 1/2" long. Thread the Yum Dinger through it and position the piece of tubing where you want it on the Yum Dinger for fishing it via whacky rig. Using a butane grill lighter (cheap plastic one or a cigarette lighter will do), heat the tubing and it will tighten around the worm. Doesn't take much heat (hair dryers will shrink this stuff) and you won't damage the Yum Dinger. Now, you can run the hook through the heat shrink, through the worm, and out the other side of the heat shrink, just as you would rig it WITHOUT an O-ring. It will not come off nor will the hook tear the worm. Plus, the heat shrink does NOT affect the action of the worm. Hooks by themselves tear through the worm and so can the rather narrow O-rings. I'm guessing that 4 pounder you lost bit one end of the Yum Dinger and pulled the entire worm through and off the O-ring,

I went to pigeon forge and caught my first trout, I was hoping to mount my first one but I thought u could not keep them under 14 in but, u know, u can’t keep them 14-18, I feel dumb because I really wanted the mount. Great video tho John!

John, I didn't get the chance to comment about this video until today. The video got by me until this morning. I want to impress upon you that your method of what you did in this video is what got the success you saw. You fished a "finesse" bait very deliberately, and very slowly in very calm conditions. You hit on the right combination at the right time. Remember what you did here, the color of the water and the color of the bait that you used. What was that, "bubblegum"? Also, you said it..."fishing painfully slow" with that bait is what got it done. Commit this to a notebook on conditions so you have a written record of how you were successful and file it under an index that would be the month, then conditions so you can go back and review for further usage. Analyze what you did, keep a running "score" of how you did, with what bait, the color, post-spawn, calm weather, stained vs. clear water...etc. You are on to something here...slow it down! When you go small, go slower.... You nailed it. Proud of you bud....G

One of the things that I personally have against Kayak fishing is I had trouble setting hard on a big fish because of your position. You have to cross the eyes on a big smallmouth. I had both , a Kayak AND a 12' foot flatbottom called a crawdad by Coleman. I rarely missed a big one in my crawdad as opposed to my Kayak. Others are maybe just better suited to it than I was.

Congratulations! You know so many people don't understand tournament fishing and why it's important to the avid angler. The competition or the tournament is on paper being a bunch of folks against each other but those who do best are the ones that play the long game and use tournaments to compete against themselves. I mean same day same water same chance to choose equipment so the only difference is the individual. What can I do to be better than I was last time. If you do that and money out of pocket always ups your game to be better than just a casual Thursday afternoon buddy trip you will become a better all around angler. One thing I did notice was that lake looks like it was made for kayak canoe fishing. Perfect size and so many different structures.

I really like the energy and enthusiasm in your videos and the scenery is amazing but it seems like so much of your video is the back of your head and not the fish strikes themselves. I really think you need to consider a hat cam of some sort or multiple cameras facing out to the sides of your kayak. A second camera person would resolve the issue but kind of hard to do on a kayak. I’m going to jump off my soapbox now.
