Yundi, please don’t give up. You are many people’s favourite pianist. Your interpretation is so moving I am in tears. Thank you for enriching the lives of so many with your performances. Looking forward to your concerts, world tours.
Quite a few contestants played this Ballad during this 18th International Chopin Competition. I look for how each one handles the Presto con fuoco runs e.g. beginning 2:14. . Yundi’s clarity and con fuoco sets the standard. Especially the clarity. Simply amazing.
Yundi is far and away my favorite pianist today. This particular performance is just… transcendent. He evokes every emotion at the perfect time, treats every note with the reverence it deserves, and he does it so cleanly that it sounds almost impossible. There are so many pianists with the perfect, pearlescent technique expected of today’s pianists, but their technically brilliant performances often come across as sterile, even lifeless. Yundi’s interpretation here manages that technical perfection while breathing life and humanity and pathos into this beautiful work. I don’t think I’ve ever experienced this ballade feel so alive. I have all of his albums and listen to them frequently, but I wish he (or his team) would post more of these performances. The visual element adds so much, and since most world class artists never (or very rarely) perform in Orlando, it’s the closest thing I can get to seeing him live.
@@egee.sheeva6672 There's a theory that you don't really die. Funny how in his jest he ended up being more Chopin-esque than yourself in your bitterness-using the same morbid Chopin-esque themes. He is celebrating while you're just gloating on something.
this young man is SUCH a fine... refined artists... can't wait to hear him... 10 or 15 years from now when the HUGE artist shows up... It's going to be overwhelming...!!!!
This is so far the best ballade 2 I have ever listened. He had a HUGE decline for past a few years, but this performance is so convening. He is still one of the best Chopin specialists
@@jielangone7475 he has more than one, maybe you got the wrong one. his interpretation is almost exactly like yundi’s, but he does better dynamics imo.
It feels like, he's that type of person whose very gentle and kind towards the others. The way he touches the piano seems soft as it reflects on how it sounds.
@@andre.vaz.pereira yes. it was posted on RU-vid, it is still refreshing to see his demeanor, feels like angels on and all over him, such a convincing win after vacancy of winners previous years.
I love the serene parts of it, and also love some of Chopin's dramatic stormy music. But the violent sections of this ballade, especially during the last time that mood returns, makes me cringe. I was never so unsettled by a piece of music at a concert in my life, and to this day, this ballade's tumultuous sections make me literally flinch.
+John Maldonado Hum, Zimerman is his idol . In 2000 -2004 he was wearing a gold ring and same hair style like Zimerman, and of course lots of hand movement looks like Zimerman as well.
For me you don’t need to have exaggerating body movement to show passion. You can feel his strong and the amazing range of emotions in this performance.
Effortless and elegant. Clear and controlled. Therefore some dramatic moments sacrificed. This is rather on the Apollonian side but still absolutely stunning! Bravo!
@@michaelgeorge4780 Yeah I guess. He's a professional, and a good one, but I don't like his interpretations of chopin's ballades, scherzi, polonaises, or sonatas. Pianists like Krystian Zimerman, Rafal Blechacz, Evgeny Kissin, and Alexander Lubyantsev are much better, but they are not as famous. I feel like he's done the same thing as David Beckham, who is a good soccer player but a bit overrated. Beckham came to the MLS and now he's the only soccer player most Americans know. Similarly, the only pianist most Americans know is Lang Lang.
I don't know... sometimes the sound and the video are off by a bit. The sound have a chord a split second before the hand in the video presses the key.
This is such a beautiful piece of music all around, but some of my favorite parts are little snippets of melody played in the left hand and some of the left hand chords in the coda. 1:44 to 1:58 Some of that can be heard again at 3:35 to 3:44 And the chords in the coda starting at 6:42 to 6:47 and especially the last few of those chords at 6:45 to 6:47
This is probably my least favorite of the Ballades; despite this, it is one of my favorite pieces of classical music. All four of Chopin's Ballades are extraordinary. My favorite (and the best) Ballade is the fourth.
lol! Apparently the director was obsessed with Yundi Li's face like teenage girl's obsessed with pop idles. It was very uncomfortable and unbearable to watch the video. But missing so many important musical and technical passages on hand shots while editing was worse!!!
