I quite like the H. Its very different and fun to fly. That being said its the drone I trust the least. I have (by necessity) had to rebuild a few times. 2 uncommanded landings from prop issues, 1 fly away, and one pilot-induced flight attempt through branches. The fly away is the 2nd with this drone.....the Captain had one which is documented on his channel. Mine was a little more dramatic but I was able to put it down in a field a long way away and recover it
@@nelsonprivateer7128 I am in total agreement with you on that. Every time I fly my Typhoon I am in constant worry about it having a flyaway because of the stories that I have heard. When I fly I use UAV toolbox to mission plan and ect. I am at the stage where I think I might want to do some modifications 😎😎 Thank you for the response, it is highly appreciated. I'm going to subscribe to you, every once in awhile I might have a repair question if you don't mind answering.
Loved the clip. Two kind Canadians just out there having fun and showing us what a good time one can have flying weird drones. Loved every bit of it. Thanks CaptainDrone. Can't wait for your Air 2S review. Hope it comes soon.
Have an older typhoon h+. While no longer the top of the line it does take good pictures and video. Nice to see older drones proving you can still fly the older ones out there.
I have had single prop failures and appreciate it being able to make it home on 5. I also know that with only 4, it flies straight to the scene of the crash :). I had some aftermarket props on and lost one in flight. During the rth all was well until suddenly the drone began spinning and dropping. It survived the rather hard landing with no damage but this made me swear to only use OEM props thereafter....
@@nelsonprivateer7128 Nelson its nice what you've been doing to keep the old Typhoon H in shape, touch wood mine have been all ok. No crashes as yet haha, I heard they fly on less props. I buy them up and have now got a good few, not selling any of them either😀 I have the hand controllers for then too it fun flying the H with it, try it if you haven't it's great. I've said to Steve way back when he had your H I just love flying them them, you also mentioned in your video with Steve how people admire the look of them, I've had it to when I tell them she's years old they don't believe it. It's good your keeping the old girls going by repairing them. The st16 controllers are beast with all those twiddly knobs on them. I will be flying them in the near future now covid is relaxed here, and with the nice weather too. Nelson I have so many drones from DJI etc, but love flying the H, as for spare props I bought loads of genuine ones just in case but not needed to replace any yet. You two was having fun flying them and Steve with his old Egg haha, god that egg is so ugly 🤣
Perfect video for me to see those two together. I was trying to get a typhoon h, for cheap, when I found some Powereggs. Loving it from your older vid, I bought 2 "not working" for $100ea. One works perfectly. Today, I found a typhoon h+ cheap. I love the egg, can't wait to fly them together.
@@gregwomack1973 send me pics of the damaged camera to privateerconsulting@bell.net and include a description of the accident and whst is or is not working on the camera. Should also include pics of the adapter/mount attached to the drone itself
Fun video, I have always wanted an Typhoon-H but my mavic pro does just fine and can fly a loot farther and longer then the Typhoon! It just looks so cool!
Agreed. All the Mavic are less stress, more capable and have lots of automated stuff.... but.... The Typhoon is way more fun to fly, has that gear that pulls up to allow the camera full 360 x 270 degree range. It makes for some interesting angles for filming as the camera direction does not have to be aligned to the flight direction
So much fun! I actually tried to find this egg on eBay, but couldn't. It seems huge, but what a cool design! Does Nelson have a RU-vid channel? He should share some of his drone repairs. There is a lot to learn about that and it seems like it could be truly rewarding. Greetings from Edmonton.
hi Steve, have just brought the power egg , but having issues connecting to my iPad air , or my android phone too the app, still able to fly , but no information on what's go on ? lol;s any help would be much welcome. kind regards Jim
great video I'm very lucky I own both drones except my h is a pro version I have had alot of people want to by my egg but I can't let it go it is one of a kind
When you said race I must admit I did envision a course with gates and flags. That probably would have been a recipe for disaster I suppose... Very entertaining though!
Fun w/drones....love it :) I miss my old H as my newer H+ seems be giving me all kinds of headache lately. Just getting some annoying autorotation around itself after 5-10 secs in hovermode so kinda hard to do either photos or video without having to counter-control all the time. So today I ordered an DJI Air 2S as I need to do a few important shots soon and cant bother to fiddle around with the H+ anymore :/
@@nelsonprivateer7128 Thanks, I have done several compass calib. but havent done controller yet. All other calib. options are gone from the H+, removed by Yuneec after the lastest upgrade to the controller software 🙄
Looks like both of you had fun. That is my only problem no one to fly with. I tried to get my Brother-in-law to buy one but he keeps on saying I will just watch you🤪. Thanks Captain
Give your B in law a cheapie. That will get him hooked. I had no desire until Steve gave me a trainer drone. Didn't take long for the addiction to set it. :)
Yuneec h the best guys age don't mean a thing but picture and video quality is what it's all about lets see more of this kind of flying thank you great video .
Where does your brother-in-law get his firmware updates. I'm picking up a never flown, never registered Typhoon H so it's going to need some updates. Since the batteries have been sitting unopened for years I'm not holding out much hope for them. Where does he buy his batteries that he mentioned. Thanks
So now that u had dji fpv for awhile. Once u put it in full manual mode in goggles. Does now everytime u fly and flip to manual it will be in full manual ? (Versus being in like acro trainer)
Yes, you can switch to any of the 3 modes for whatever speeds you need to fly (Normal, Sport or Manual). When I switch to Manual, it is full ACRO mode as I have all the safeties off.
@@nelsonprivateer7128 really? That's really weird. I didn't even notice that in the videos I watched. Damn that's annoying. Like on my drone when I get gps fix flying. To mark hone point I have to land disarm and rearm lol
Some one commented on why the portaloo was tilting. Actually is an animal proof trash bin. Here is the wild north, we have bears, coyotes, cougars etc. The last one is attracted to red wine and young males so Steve and I are safe.
@@nelsonprivateer7128 Thanks Nelson; so does this mean you simply put a micro sd card in the controller and it records onto it or does it record to the app on the controller?
so annoyed my Typhoon H no longer powers up after being in storage , only give 1 beep but have to pull the battery to turn off the power light , no start tones , funny thing is the camera still works through the controller lol
Can you tell me the symptoms of not powering up? Does it turn and then shut off or does the drone just not power up at all? If your camera is powered, it means there is power to the board. I would check for a blown microfuse on the boards. I've not seen that issue before but I bet there are micro fuses there.
Can't say but I know you could upgrade the 16 to the 16 plus and the case made to do so was range. My parts bird came with range extender antennae on the ST16. However I didn't find any difference. As stated in the video, I've had my H to 1.3 km ( not intentionally) and been connected without degradation. However it was a rural area over water so very few wifi signal barriers
@@nelsonprivateer7128 I didn't know you could upgrade them. I might just buy one and upgrade it so I have 2 ground stations to try team flying. Thee wizard controller still takes some getting used to. And I fly my typhoon in a urban area with a lot of trees houses and buildings (bad practice but I live in the Silicone Valley hard to get away). I need to invest in a range extender.
H is likely 1.5 kg total weight. Span is around 2 ft. Height is about 12 inches. It does have a lot of inertia when manoevring but the gimbal/camera combo is rock steady
The egg really doesn't have any weight toward the bottom. The camera weighs nothing, the body plastic is super thin and light. The battery is pretty heavy, and solid metal braces for the arms, that's all up top. Flies great, but does like to tip over if moving at all when landing - and the props are expensive (if you can find them). They're 10.5 inches, btw.
All my original yunnec batteries are dead and buried now. I now use Gifi batteries and have both the 6000 and 8050 mah versions. I buy them on eBay, Amazon or banggood. I also have the battery tray adapter to use generic lipo 8000 mah batteries but I haven't had to go that route yet.
@@nelsonprivateer7128 thx Nelson. I have gifi and original. The originals are getting thick and round so no risks anymore. I also had the following issue: I had not use the H for a couple of months. I started up but took forever to get the camera on my st16. Also after take off, the landing gear needed some extra help from my hands when first time to lift. Any experiences of that too?
@@JeRiMarAV gear issue is common. Fix is easy. Power on your drone. Hold in in you hand with the gear up ( ie drone is upside down). Cycle the gear several times. This clears and "stiction" in the gear actuator. I actually had to do a hand catch thst day ( not on camera) as one of the gear was sticking 1/2 way down.
The slow connection to the ST16 is common as well. When my Hs are inactive, I do notice they take longer to connect. Not sure why but perhaps Google play or third party apps are looking for updates. They do connect though and after that it is a non issue.
@@JeRiMarAV i had 4 yuneec OEM batteries show really heavy voltage sag. 1 was also swelling. I disassembled the batteries to see how they are built inside. Kept the cases and am now trying to source lipo cells to rebuild.
That was a good video cap why is the jjrc Drone so expensive now when I paid 144 for it now it's 259 why is that cap I feel because the summer is coming up is that drone with the JJ RC X8
This is what we call "A Bad Egg" :P that voice gets annoying fast! hehe Nice demo of those 2 old drones Steve. Thanks for being original like this and not talking about the Mavic Air 2S like 99% of the Drone RU-vidrs :P
ok in the end Nelson said that the typhoon H batteries are not smart batteries so there were certain things he has to do. do you have a vid or can you point me in a way to understand the batteries more. I used to fly raptor 90's so the whole battery world is still confusing to me. love your vids thanks for your time
When a battery is not a SMART BATTERY it simply means that if you fully charge the battery, you will need to then use that battery within two weeks so that the battery does not bloat.
that is so good to know. do you have or recomend a video about batteries and storage at all. ive been doing rc for 30 years but not very familiar with lipo yet. i was into big gassers mostly. thank you so much for the reply as that was not something i was aware off i was always taught to store my nicd batteries full. just got a new old stock typhoon h and love it thanks to your vids. @@CAPTAINDRONE798
and last time I flew my drones together, one pair of my drones, the dji Mavic air 2 and the Mavic mini, the mini hit the air 2 and hit the floor from 200m
