I think its adorable how Yuqi seems to be sort of mimicking Soyeon's teaching style here. Clearly, Soyeon has had a profound impact on her members, and they really respect her talent.
At 0:40 As a non-Korean speaker who knows a bits of other languages, I really felt that moment. I KNOW that the person is saying it differently, and I KNOW that I've tried to copy you, but I just can't hear the difference between what you've said and what I've just said. Poor Shuhua. The only way to fix this is keep repeating it slightly differently until the other person says "Yes!" And then you just have to try and remember how to position your mouth to say it, even though it doesn't sound any different for us.
No. Unfortunately that is not correct. I speak Korean fluently. Asian languages fall under using your fucking ears correctly. You want to know why? The Chinese, Korean and Japanese languages subconsciously use absolute pitch to accurately replicate it. If one is not able to replicate it, its on them they are possibly lacking on relying on that absolute pitch. So I'll be honest you don't know what the fuck you are talking about. Oh and I speak those three and that's how I know and have the experience. Since I don't fuck any word up when flowing through the three.
@@tszyuchau8520Yes, I understand the point. However, there are people who have ease with languages, both Yuqi and Minnie have it since they speak more than 2 languages (Chinese, Korean and English in the case of Yuqi) (Thai, Korean, English and a little Japanese and Mandarin in Minnie's case). While Soyeon and Miyeon (particularly Miyeon) have serious difficulties with English and know the basics. While Shuhua is already able to hold conversations in Korean, she may not have the best diction but she has certainly come a long way. I'm just saying that all people are good at something, languages are not Shuhua's strong suit,
its because theres a slight pause when she changes the tones. when Yuqi does it, the transition is smooth and when Shuhua does it theres a pause on the transitions
This is where language barrier arrives lmao,i experience the same thing while i try to sing in other languages. You know It's wrong, you get that the syllables are not the way you are pronouncing, the beats are not syncing with the syllables yet you don’t really know how to do it correctly, it just doesn’t happen right away, you need to hear it a few times to get it correct 💀
I can’t pinpoint exactly what it is from listening yet but she’s doing something different in the middle portion Found it. She’s stretching the middle and adding an extra vowel sound
I am not trying to defend Shu, not at all but l think she is great on stage as a singer. Apparently she works harder to do good on stage which is admirable. Plus she is amazing as a person. I love her ❤
@@XX-xxxxxx then l guess you have. You don’t have to like her as a singer, but l like her singing . She definitely needs to be guided during recordings but l think she does a good job. Plus it’s the show business so she has other talents so l don’t think just anyone could stand on the stage like her. Her hard work should be considered as a talent as well. I have my reasons to like her but you have your reasons to not like her and it’s completely okay.
@@dilanhos2499her sense of rythm is actually pathetic. when she was recording nxde, even soyeon had to teach her like a kid bcuz she was struggling too much just to sing on beat, which even a non-professional singer should be able do pull out easily.
@@ayubisf yea. Im not hating on shuhua I love her personality but singing is just not for her to me. Remember The Killing Voice? She was off beat every single time it makes me cringe so hard...
agreed, but I also think that anyone saying she is "tone deaf" doesn't actually know what that means or is just trying to say she is not a good vocalist in a mean way.
@@babette5918it doesn’t have to be mean. Shuhua is tone deaf because she has a hard time differentiating notes and pitch. That doesn’t mean it’s permanent you can learn, she just needs a vocal coach. It isn’t supposed to be an insult, it’s quite a fact that it’s hard for her. It’s not like it’s a disease or smth, with confidence and good training she can get better. However she isn’t going off pitch in this video
she does have pitch problems especially live but with proper guidance, she can pull off the right notes and pronunciation during recording. She doesn't have the natural talent for singing nor a proper technique to be consistent and always needs to be guided. Not necessarily a bad thing because she's still able to deliver what is needed from her. Just needs consistency and stability specially in live stages.

with their work they probably speak korean more often than they speak chinese now, they both understand it perfectly fine. Since inflections and enunciation can vary drastically from language to language, trying to explain it in chinese might make it even more complicated
Shu is Taiwanese. When Yuqi tries to help her in Korean conversations I think they speak in Mandarin to each other. Maybe Chinese too. Mandarin is the official language of Taiwan (mandated at around 1950) but Taiwanese is still the common language.
I am getting notifications of people asking whether mandarin and chinese are the same but they don't show up in the comments... here is what google tells me... Many people think Chinese and Mandarin are the same language. But the fact is: they are technically NOT the same thing. Mandarin is a form of the Chinese language. There are many different versions of Chinese spoken throughout China, and they are usually classified as dialects. (This is from google. I am no expert)
@babette5918 Their mother tongue are Mandarin. The Taiwanese language you spoke of is a dialect of Fujian, China. Chinese is a ethnic not a language. Hopefully this helps
@@sebjake3793Taiwanese people speak Taiwanese, which is more similar to Quanzhou or Zhangzhou dialects, not Hokkien. The characters or pronunciation used are also different.
@babette5918 I'm just surprised that the producer is surprised the singer isn't getting it. The difference is so incredibly small, the vast majority of people listening wouldn't be able to tell the difference. But, i also have respect for the dedication to the craft.
@@mike9512 Yes, this is why a lot of people are commenting that "You can tell Yuqi (the producer here) really learned a lot from Soyeon (the main producer of the group). Soyeon is a stickler for getting every little thing exactly the way she wants it. If you can get 10 little things right then that adds up to getting one big thing right.
@@babette5918 agreed. And my understanding is the music industry, especially k-pop, is ultra competitive. And G-idle aren't part of the big 4, so they have to really fight to earn their sport. So yeah, I don't really hear the difference, but I respect the work ethic even if I don't get it.
@@mike9512i disagree that a vast majority of people wouldnt be able to tell the difference. i mean it was definitely obvious to me and im not an expert on anything to do with music, im sure in the actual song it wouldve been even more obvious if it didnt go with the rhythm right.
this isn't tone-related at all. her rhythm and tempo is being affected because of pronunciation problems but she's hitting the right notes perfectly. she just needs to know where to pause or not to. but yeah. ignorant people would say she's tone deaf because of this because they don't know any better lol
@@francinev3971 yes but obviously , only the writer/producer of the song knows how they want the pronounciation/words to be. Yuqi here shows shu how yuqi wants her to sing it because its her song
Shuhua is from Taiwan. Minnie is from Thailand. Yuqi is from China. Soyeon, Miyeon, and Soojin are from Korea. Yuqi is a near genius (at minimum) and all about studying and learning. She picked up Korean quickly. Minnie is excellent at languages which seems to be a "thing" with Thai people. People in Thailand learn multiple languages as part of primary education. Shu... well... she just isn't good at languages. Not really a reason to hate on someone.
@@babette5918 LONG Fun Fact: Most Thais themselves are not that skilled with other languages like foreigners think. 😅 Thais were gotten this "things"(what foreigner think they skilled) was from living in Melting Pot culture associate with foreigners who's came for trade and buying goods for hundreds years ago. This building a good depth for Thais to imitate sound they heard from foreigner and recreate the same sound in Thai Alphabet, which make Thais have option to learn fast in different way. By not learning from the original language Alphabet but learning from that "imitate same sound words" in Thai Alphabet make it quicker to use. This method are the same goal as Japanese creates カタカナ Alphabet but Thais didn't have to create whole new カタカナ Alphabet like Japanese did because Thai language have more sound and tone from the beginning(benefit from co-living). Just added a few more Alphabet for the close same sound but in different tone like C and Z, G and K, V and W then done. This quick method make Thais can survive even can't write any foreigner Alphabet at all. The Thais who's family background living in community which associated with foreigner the most is Central Thais, Minnie also these people too. They are the one who's have this traits to imitate sound since their grandma and grandpa generations maybe even before that, AND THIS IS why her expressing sound such an unique and nowhere easily found in K-pop are come from.
she's careful because she's not fluent in Korean. that's probably where the difficulty lies. her problem in this clip is that she's not understanding where to put a pause in the lyrics. she's perfectly singing the right notes, just the rhythm being affected by pronunciation. i swear ya'll like to hate on idols without even understanding what's happening lol
@@francinev3971“not fluent in Korean” is such a ridiculous excuse that her fans kept using since the debut 6 years ago. It was okay for a year or maybe 2? But now it is 6 years since the debut. How can “not fluent in Korean” still be an acceptable excuse????? Be professional! 😢😢😢
Tf she thinks shuhua is cute that's y soyeon laughs also soyeon is the one who helped shuhua a lot she also taught her tricks which shu does till now .if there is no soyeon they will not be the ones who they are now
There is one time that Soyeon was laughing while producing for Shu, and she was laughing because Shu kept saying "Fart" in Korean. The entire room was cracking up. If you're going to hate on Soyeon then at least get your facts right.
