I think he's a sociopath. He said that the old him would have done it in a heartbeat. To me, that shows some sign of change. Isn't a sociopath more likely to change? He clears battles with himself enough as he says in season 1 that he doesn't need any friends and then he chooses his friends. In my eyes, I just see him as a person willing to burn his bridges. Maybe I'm overthinking, but that's what I think.

It's less about him gaining a conscious and more like him not wanting to be like like his father and more like his mom. His friends are important to him but their more like a way to prove to himself that he isn't like that man.
Yuuichi's Psychology and so on is really perfect and on point, It helped me understand a bit more from the difference of psychopath vs sociopath Thanks a lot. Definitely gained a subscriber.
Yuiichi is a dark empath. The manga goes on to state this explicitly when a sociopath looses to him because he lacks empathy whereas Yuiichi uses it as a weapon. "The man who would become Taizen's successor would feel the pain of others fully and completely. He'd just be willing to betray them anyway. Someone who could feel the pain of others and appear as an angel or devil on their shoulder as needed."
I honestly think yuuichi katagiri is just a dark empath. in the manga (no spoilers) its revealed that yuuichi also *fully* understands how someone feels while sociopaths/psychopaths feel empathy weaker than others

Psychopathy and sociopathy are different, yes, but also not. It's like they are cut from the same cloth, but one side is red (angry- sociopathy) and the other side is blue (calm and in control-psychopathy). Really, tbh there is not much difference, even in real life. In the end, both will eventually betray, discard or leave behind friends and family. Examples: Tinder swindler (his family doesn't talk to him anymore, and his various girlfriends got betrayed and used) Puppet master con man (he ditched his 3 friends back in the late 90's. And in 2010's he had a gf in America and in the U.K. Both of who he eventually left behind). They also cause trouble and new dangerous situations for themselves and those closest too them. So whether they are a sociopath or a psychopath they are best to stay away from, go "no contact".

it's really hard to say what yuuichi is, i've terms from psychopath to autistic, personally i'd say he has some form of dissociative identity disorder plus psychopathy

The thing is yuichi is much more ruthless and evil in the manga. Many people say he is just broken but remember that he was born evil otherwise he would have been against taizen shiba's teachings. If any of u want to learn about the truth of yuichi you should read the manga (if you saw the anime start reading from chapter 26)
spoiler warning: In the manga taizen says something along the lines of i abadoned my son and chose yuichi because unlike his son yuichi can feel emotions and has a consience but he can easily ignore it
