When are you going to do the ''what if yoda was addicted to ketamine and drove a 2002 honda civic''? im sure a lot of people have requested this already!
Well, that went out the window in the last book or two. The Jedi wrecked the Yuuzhan Vong. It was retconned that Jedi simply couldn't sense Vong through the Force. It was a really stupid, abrupt retcon.
@@christianyaerger1751 Wasn't it the Solo's children Anakin and Jaycen Solo, that excelled at fighting the Vong? Ben was a Skywalker , but Jaycen became Darth Caedus.
Palpatine was the player in a Stellaris game, he knew the End-Game Crisis was coming so he tried to turn the weak Republic into a military force strong enough to face it, but the Jedi had to be pricks about it!
@@StarboyXL9 Nope, Sidious intended to become literally the strongest force in the galaxy. Haven't you seen the vid on what Palpatine ultimately wanted to become?
Dude, the Yuuzhan Vong are in the top three coolest factions of the SW universe. We need an entire series on them, the Infinite Empire, and the Ancient Sith Empire!
The Vong are terrible villains. They're boring and cliche, and they don't fit in with Star Wars at all. They're far more like Star Trek or 40K villains.
Renegade Brigade But they don't match the tone or feel of Star Wars. I also don't see the urgency. Even reading the series as a kid, the fact that the Vong have immunity to the Force and lightsabers felt like bad writing. Instead of building up an enemy naturally, in a way that feels genuinely threatening, the writers just make them immune to the good guy's weapons, so I knew that they were going to curbstomp The New Republic until the writers decided that it had been long enough and gave the Jedi a way to beat them. It's lazy writing. If the Vong weren't so obviously written to be a rock paper scissors counter to Jedi, the war between them would have been a lot more interesting. The outcome of battles was never in doubt, because it's clear to the reader when it's time for the Vong to win, and when it's time for the Jedi to win, so there was never any tension. The battle of Hoth is effective because, though the Empire seems incredibly powerful, they're not magically resistant to all of the Rebel's weapons. The Rebels could theoretically push back the Imperial attack, or be utterly destroyed. Because the audience doesn't know what's going to happen, it's engaging, and the actual outcome of a costly but successful retreat feels earned. I suppose it's not that the Vong are by themselves that bad, it's that they don't fit into the Star Wars IP, and that they were the villains of a really shitty series. With better writers, the Vong could be great villains in Warhammer 40k.
@@ThejollyFrenchman entirely disagree, the Vong are definitely a lazy writing tool for next big bad guy but saying they dont fit the cannon is just ridiculous.
They are the most interesting villains in Star Wars. They are what we think of aliens. Star wars needs this. These guys are savages something the empire truly feared. They give reason to Darth sidious. This is why sidious wanted to unify the galaxy in one militaristic military force. The Jedi are powerless against them because they aren’t force sensitive. Reason why sidious was obsessed with building a Death Star in the first place
A lot more in line with WH 4000 than Star Trek, though that one seems to come up as the universe the YV are from just as often. The poor Federation crews that come across the YV would've had a heart attack.
@BK Beatty They destroyed so much of their own galaxy that the force itself abandoned them. Both sides you could say. That’s why the gave the jedi so much trouble. They and everything they use is undetectable by the force. The darkside can hurt them like lightning but, the soth were either all wiped on in hiding by the time of the vong war
God I love the Vong, something totally different to what I’d come to expect from Star Wars when I read the books when I was younger and wanted to see them on the big or small screen ever since!
This book series was, by far, one of my favorite from ledgends. If any have not read it, you should. Even if it is not cannon. It gives you such a deep look into the force, and how a Jedi uses the force. It has super sad moments, and triumphant ones. Of corse, with 14 books in the series, there are some that were slower than others, but as a whole,....one if the best. I would love to see it come to life on screen.
I totally agree!! I haven't said this to anyone outside my family till now but when they said 3 new Star Wars movies I got overhyped cause I assumed it would be these stories.... Well I'm sure you can understand my disappointment. I still read these stories and the old republic ones too.
@MarkGhost Productions Vong: *return with strange device* Rey: what's that? Vong: *holds device up to mouth* Mary Sue Shield: Disengage! *Mary Sue shield vanishes* Rey: uuuhhhh Vong: *stab Rey* ONWAAAARD!!!!
So smoke getting cut in half is kid friendly? A lightsaber going straight through a guards eye? Yeah keep telling yourself Disney cant do more mature stuff. Yall dinsey haters just like to pick and choose. Thanos literally had his head chopped off in endgame xD
Rey Skywalker would kill half of them with a glare. The remaining half would decide they’re in love with her now and follow her about like Fin, periodically shouting “REEEY!!!”
Yuuzhan vong: if cenobites were an invasive warrior race In all seriousness, the vong would make great villains for a new triliogy. Theyre motivations are interesting and different than the cis, empire or first order and the war would span 3 films
The Vong conflict also forced the Jedi to rethink their perspectives about the Force in general and the very nature of the "dark" and "light" side. Corran Horn and Luke have a good discussion about this after Horn kills the Vong battlemaster in a duel...which of course isn't the Jedi way. Horn didn't just kill the Vong warrior...he hesitated before delivering the final blow because he wanted the Vong to KNOW that he was beaten. He wanted to send a message. Very interesting stuff.
The EU was such a big part of my childhood. I cried when I learned it had been cast aside. This is such a huge part of my Star Wars and would do anything to see it brought to life in canon or a legends series
I really don't see why Disney can't just let the writers continue legends alongside their new canon. It doesn't have to get tons of money or advertising, just those passionate writers create content for your passionate fans.
WHOEVER at Disney who wants to SAVE the lucrative Star Wars franchise with one simple scene This message is for you, just make the events that happen in the The Rise of Skywalker cause two parallel timelines. Have a short scene explaining the actions that unfold have dire consequences that break the timeline in to two completely separate parallel timelines. Film one simple scene with Luke, Leia, Han, Mara and the kids and you make legends canon call it Alternate Universe (AU) as this parallel alternate timeline and u could make movies for both and release thrawn years from now , re-unite all fans and SAVE the FRANCHISE!!!! $$$$
Having the Yuuzan Vong in a film is not possible if you want to make it pg13 unless you'd terribly soften them down. And I doubt that Disney would produce a film that is for 18+.
The Yuuzhan Vong got a mixed reaction, but I honestly loved them. Cause they were a breath of fresh for an expanded universe that got stale. Before them it was just super weapons, imperial warlords, and new dark side cults every week, very repetitive. I think something akin to them would be the fresh air the new canon needs right now.
The Yuuzhan Vong, Star Wars’s version of Orcs and Uruk-Hai from LOTR. They’re such a horrifying species in Star Wars Legends, hellish and brutal in combat and appearance.
Some Vong-related suggestions for your next videos on this great topic: - TsaVongLah: battle tactics, obsessions, mindset - Onimi: how he does what he does and why - Yammosks: classification and use during the war - Vergere: role, loyalties, Force powers
New Jedi Order... what a series. Anakin, Chewbacca... Just wow. Nen Yim, Vua Rappuung, Norm Anor... Zonama Sekot! Such great stories, by far my favorite in the EU. The Yuuzhan Vong invasion was epic. Ahh, the Ganner! Vergere and Jason! I could go on and on. So many awesome moments!
You forgot to mention how the new version of the Yuuzhan Vong, the Grysk, are coming after Episode 9. People who have read the Thrawn novels will know, and I think you did a video about the Grysk, but most people don't know about them.
@@JuggernautDr Not Dol Guldur Orcs lead by Azog and the Gundabad Orcs from the Hobbit. They were both significantly larger and stronger than even Uruk Hai, while also being significantly better armored and equipped than the orcs during the War of The Ring era.
The Yuuzhan Vong was one of the best creations of the Expanded Universe, as it gave the Jedi a real threat which couldn't be dealt with through typical means (no Jedi mind tricks, for example).
I’ve literally always wanted to hear ur take on the vong since I discovered the new Jedi order, dead ass just 2 nights ago I was looking if u made one at some point that I missed, then I shit myself when I saw the notification
So many people don't know about them. Thank you for making this video. Hopefully this brings them to more people's attention, because they are CHILLING!
Though it is now Legends material, the fall of Chewbacca to the Vong is one of the most memorable SW literature moments for me. The selfless sacrifice and defiance Chewie showed was incredible and the author painted an incredibly vivid picture. Would love to see a video on this. Keep up the great work SW Theory, recently discovered your channel and I’ve been binging your videos.
Андрей Шурочка OP is referring to the Grisk; it’s literally a neutered version of the Yuuzhan Vong. Their culture has been stripped away in the Disney canon and they now use conventional technology
The Grisk are fundamentally different than the Vong. The only thing that makes them *at all* similar is they are a threat from the Unknown Region that the Chiss really don't like. They are also way more interesting than OP ass HERP DERP NO FORCE WORKS ON ME
Honestly, having Luke and a Gray Jedi Order fighting against the Vong for a trilogy would have been better than what we got. Stays close to Legends, respects the OT cast, and maintains the balance Vader brought.
They only lightly tie in to the Yuuzhan Vong war, but would love to see some content about Wraith Squadron. I find them particularly interesting because I feel like their earlier stories could realistically slot right into the current cannon with not that many changes if Disney chose to do an adaptation of some sort.
I'm guessing the Purrgil took Ezra and Grand Admiral Thrawn, into the unknown region of space where they would come to terms with their situation and learn about the Yuuzhan Vong, about who they are and their intentions of invading the Galaxy. I think that's where Ahsoka and Sabin come, in the upcoming Ahsoka TV series where they try to locate Ezra. After years of searching, Ahsoka uses the world Between worlds as a final ditch effort to find him, it eventually leads her into the unknown region of space where Ahsoka will find Ezra and Thrawn, may be in the Chiss home world battling the Yuuzhan Vong for years and Ezra learning battle tactics, fighting skills from Thrawn and Ezra eventually becoming close friends with Thrawn. They would gather years of knowledge on how to defeat the Yuuzhan Vong, but they would eventually loose the battle against them, may be Thrawn dying in the process in a desperate attempt to hold off the invading Vong as his people the Chiss, Ezra, Ahsoka and Sabin Escape back to Lothol through the use of the world between world's portal. They would then take their findings and the Chiss refugees to the New Republic to prepare for an Invasion. This I think would lead into the next trilogy of movies which would be the Yuuzhan Vong Invasion.
Great video. For me, Legends or the EU as we called it is the true lore. I personally do not recognize Disney's Canon. In my opinion this is the greatest story out of all of it. The New Jedi Order series, the Yuuzhon Vong storyline the great characters of Legends came into their own during that storyline and the enemy picked was unlike anything in Star Wars or sci fi in general I'd ever seen it was so original and the stories were so well written, so all encompassing and awesome. Thanks for taking me back for bit.
I remember reading this when I was young. It legitimately scared me. And it seemed impossible for our heroes to overcome this threat to the Galaxy. I need to re-read it again
I've read every book about the Yuuzhon Vong invasion. But, this vlog told me things I never really got from the books. The Vong seem to make much more since now, creepy and gross, but I can understand how and why they think the way they do. I gotta subscribe just to see how many things I've overlooked. Thanks. Keep it coming!!
I would love to see a Yuuzhan Vong breakdown of the Slayers...The genetically altered warriors created to take out the Jedi. I remember in the story that the Vong leader put on a demonstration and one of the Slayers took down like 10 Vong Warriors without breaking a sweat.
@SWT I've heard you mention the Yuuzhan Vong a few times in your videos but I had no idea that they were this cool and that star wars got this dark. I've been missing out on a lot of great stuff in legends
The New Jedi Order series is PHENOMENAL! I love the Yuuzhan Vong. Do yourself a favor and pick these up and read them. After plowing through 19 books, you'll be thanking me.
When I heard about the sequel trilogy, I naturally thought they were going to cover the Vong. I was immediately disappointed when I read the opening scroll as it made absolutely zero sense. Was left even more disheartened when I watched the movie and it turned out it was just a shot for shot remake of a new hope with a mcguffin plot device thrown in.
@@Bauglir100 First, I said when I HEARD there was gonna be a sequel trilogy. This is well before any promotional videos were shot. None of the promotional videos gave away the plot(the ones I saw anyway). They insinuated Finn was going to be a trooper turned Jedi but not much else. Nothing showed jt would be a shot for shot remake of A New Hope. They kept Rey being the main protagonists a secret, they could have easily done the same thing with the new villains of the trilogy.
They remind me of species 8472 (or the undine, as called in STO), from Star Trek. Of course they are very different, but the bio-trch stuff ks very simular
Hey star wars theory! I love your videos and your in-depth explanations of lore and legends! Thanks for being you and may the force be with you, always.
I would be down exploring the sinister alien species literature and revisiting Yuuzhan Vong War. Although for Disney's standards that's way more ambitious for their creativity
Please talk about Palpy and Grand Admiral Thrawn and how they might have known of this threat. Also would love a video covering the ACTUAL children of the Solos and Akywalkers, and their adventures during this war
I think Thrawn hinted about them, at least in the Heir to the Empire comics. It seemed to be his justification to Sidious for wanting to serve in the Empire.
Among the events that happened in the post-Return of the Jedi galaxy in Star Wars before Disney were: * Thrawn's invasion, the births of Jacen Solo (future Darth Caedus), Jaina Solo, Anakin Solo and Ben Skywalker and the creation of the New Republic and New Jedi Order. * The return of Emperor Sheev Palpatine/Darth Sidious and the formation of the Dark Empire as well as their destruction. * The Yuuzhan Vong invasion. * The formation of Roan Fel's Galactic Empire. * The emergence of A'Sharad Hett/Darth Krayt and the New Sith Order. * The Second Galactic Civil War after the creation of the Galactic Alliance/Galactic Federation of Free Alliances. * The Sith-Imperial Civil War and the creation of A'Sharad Hett/Darth Krayt's Galactic Empire as well as its subsequent destruction and replacement by the Galactic Federation Triumvirate. Additionally Darth Nihl's plans for Sith cells to infiltrate the government of the Galactic Federation Triumvirate.
I remember reading "Star By Star" for the first time and being absolutely floored by how crazy and epic it was. Lot of people hated on the EU and the Vong in particular, and certainly there were bad books and plot lines, but for kids obsessed with Star Wars the EU was awesome.
The New Jedi Order series was one of my favorites. The firs Novel alone was excellent. My only complaint about this series was the death of Chewbacca. Although it did take an entire moon to fall on our favorite wookie to kill him.
As much as I love the Vong as antagonists, I truly hope Disney keeps their shitty hands off of them. Anything they touch from the old EU is just a bastardized, soulless husk of what they used to be. The Vong would have been a great antagonist for the newer movies...provided they were kept true to what they were in the EU and not watered down.
This was by far my favorite series of books I have ever read!! It was all so new and so very Star Wars! Anakin's and Chewie's deaths were definitely the most impactful scenes ever written.
I wish this would happen! Can you imagine the technology we have now and just seeing this like a Independence day for Star Wars it would be Epic...but sadly I don't think the mouse would do this :( Great video as always man thanks for covering this🔥🐉👊👍
