Yuzu’s skating is so pure, so ethereal, so devoted - it feels like the truth announcing itself. That journalist got it right when he compared Yuzu’s skating to the truth.
Extra information from Japan: It was really busy day for Yuzuru. He joined the celebration event and visited the education agency to see the minister in the morning, joined two press conferences including this one for an hour each, and visited his sponsor company ANA in the afternoon. He must have been exhausted, but he kept smiling, polite, and answering sincerely. Plus cute! We are really proud of him! He is our national treasure!
He’s really such an inspiration. He has such tremendous work ethic, commitment and pure grit! There is a reason why he can be the greatest of all time.
I am much older than he, but I am learning a lot from his human nature. He is not only the figure skater in the world but also that it is an Superior example of many people.
I wish he had the privilege to have an interpreter more often, because the way he thinks and answers the questions is amazing, and while speaking in his own language he has the freedom to speak his mind. The way he answered the question about North Korean skaters was absolutely brilliant. He had to be politically correct. I was amazed how quickly he came up with such a brilliant answer while still complementing the skaters themselves.
Because he isn't influence in english, he can't express his thoughts well when he is forced to answer in english. But if you've seen his japanese interviews, he is a really well-spoken and intelligent guy!
I can totally relate to the host when he said “Watching your performance I was struck. And realised oh this is a truth.” And I'm glad that someone feels the same with me coz I think it's strange to feel this way. As in why and how you can see a truth from a person's skating? But the feeling of “seeing truth” is so strong that I can't deny it. This is something that I wouldn't be able to understand before I saw Yuzuru's skating.

Yes. I hope the Japanese foreign commission, or whatever they call it, realizes what a remarkable representative they have in Yuzuru. He is the epitome of the excellent character of the Japanese people and has brought in so much interest and love for his country and their culture. His Japanese-ness is something I admire about him. The fact that he isn't trying to be cosmopolitan and adopting "western" mannerisms and attitudes. He is just so elegant and humble.
@@Lady_Scorpion9900 I'm so glad that he is cherished. I wish we could all go to Beijing from all over the world to be there for him so he doesn't forget how much he means to us, and that we are rooting and cheering for him even though we can't be there in person and that his happiness and his achieving his dreams and goals is what we all wish for.
Yuzuru is so articulate & intelligent. And, humble & grounded. Love the moderator's introduction; respectful & full of admiration. And, that wonderful gesture of standing for Yuzuru. Translator is really good. Thank you for uploading.
Yuzuru is so smart and elequent. Sometimes that aspect of him is underapreciated internationally because he's not fluent in english (yet). I hope more international journalists will ask more about his thoughts on the vast development of figure skating in recent years, on how he choose his own music, how his program is created because from some interviews it seems that he's heavily involved in his programs, if he has found a way to improve his training to prevent injuries from all those research he has done while he's off ice, and how his accomplishments can be used to propel more success in fs athletes in asia not just from japan. Ask him more of those kind of questions instead of quads quads quads and his love for winnie the pooh.
He did look pleased with her translating. There was one interview I saw where the translator was so bad and left out all the most important things Yuzu was saying in his answers that Yuzu just started doing his own translation. The guy was relieved I think because his English wasn't as good as Yuzu's and he was trying to use Google translate on his phone. It was pretty funny.
In the beginning I am attracted by his skating. However, I am more amazed by him after watching his interview. He is a very smart and intelligent person. I can't believe he was only 23 and can answered all these questions so well.
I truly cannot put into words how precious this interview has been for me. Being a non-speaker of the Japanese language, this conference allowed me just a glimmer of the sunshine Hanyu Yuzuru-san is. Be it in terms of his viewpoint of the preparation, injury recovery, technical aspects, etc. It has been enough for a lifetime's yearning. I watched from beginning to the end and I am truly grateful for the excellent translation, Meri Joyce san. Thank you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Let him speak in Japanese, he is very intellectual and has more sense and depth with his answers. Edit: Them standing up to give him A round of apluase for being a two time Winter Olympic Champion. That was heartwarming and well deserved. Edit: Of all the interviews up to this I have watched, Yuzu's opinion to aristry strucked me most "Artistry lies in technique Prowess". It just means how valuable for him as an athlete to challenge himself do clean, textbook techniques while making it beautiful. Edit: I just love how it shows that he lives and breathes Figure Skating when he discussed the technique in Quad Axel. He is admirable and inspiring, Other competitors should take note how he studies human engineering, statistics, and image training in Figure Skating.
Being a super polite and humble person he felt very uncomfortable at the beginning when everyone else stood up and he was forced to sit. :) He understood English very well but despite the request he wanted to stand up and bow and thank the whole world as he always does.
Very intelligent Yuzu, I really admire him for his mind set and insights. Add to that his humble and politeness also he's such a cutie. I'm really glad to witness such a spectacular performance in Pyeongchang, Yuzuru Hanyu's Legacy!
Everyone already said what I wanted to say about his eloquence, intelligence, and overall amazingness so I'm just gonna talk about how cute he was when they asked him to describe just how difficult a quad axel and quintuple jumps are.
Yuzuru's skating has been called beautiful but this is probably the first time it's been compared to the truth. I guess to a journalist, truth is a thing of beauty. Rather funny that the host was so in awe of him, as seen in that intro pointing out how select this group of Olympians to which Yuzuru now belongs is, asking all to stand in tribute, and in his effusive praise of the artistry and athleticism that Yuzuru displays in his skating.
when yuzu talks about the technicalities of the jumps, he becomes so serious and focused..it's wonderful to see..and I feel like I'm learning lots lol...I hope one day he'll be a coach or something Lord willing many many many years down the line when he retires.
@@mrsnufkinsan Me too and I don't understand a word of Japanese but I could listen to him talk all day. Did you see how he lit up when he was talking about Javi? They were both really lucky to have had each other in their lives to help develop their excellent characters. They were good for each other. And pushed each other to be the best they could be. But I think maybe it wasn't luck at all but Devine intervention?
@@tonya--7704 I thought the same: divine plan. Did you notice at ISU 2017 in Helsinki, that the only non-Asian in the top rankings was Javi? They brought each other along. And Yuzu was surrounded by Yoma Uno and Javi on the podium at the Olympics 2018. It couldn’t possibly be a mere coincidence. Yuzu brought his gang, they shared the same spirit of Hanyu.
Wonderful interview. He does give very thoughtful, in depth answers to questions that are posed. How he kept his training and focus before he competed in PyeongChang was very interesting. I love his choice of music, showcasing Japanese music, particularly, as well as skating to a different kinds of music. He's such a great champion and a great representative for Japan.
Did they really HAVE to make ab athlete who is still recovering from ankle injury, who had to take strong painkillers to be able to skate, stand up and demonstrate something he could just explain? Other than that, brilliant interview.
There seems to be some cultural difference going on and the moderator could have been more thoughtful. If he said, 'you can stand up if you like', it would look a bit rude for Yuzuru not to stand up. I think that's the case in Japan but not in the west.
Thank you so much for this interview / press conference! I maybe late to find and listen to this. But, alas, deep interview with contents to chew on! Thank you so much for the questions given, interpreter and all! I'm brimming with tears for that first comment regarding, Olympians are special breed of people, gold medalist are even rarer, and even more, one whom got the gold medal consecutively is even rarer. That standing ovation! *cries* thank you so much for this video!
He tries his very best to answer all questions,it is so good an example for those who are still learning. Indeed,he improves a lot along the way! Thank you Hanyu san,you are the best!
Yuzu's presents at his next competition; flowers, pooh bears, and RICE!! lol, but of course, that's probably why they gave him all that rice at the Sendai Parade haha XD
"Oly athletes are a very rare breed, if you further think abt it, Oly athletes who won🥇are even rarer breed of person. But if you take it further & think an Oly athlete who's won 2🥇, well🥇in cons Olys you're going up into another, very very rare space indeed... " He's the one and only Yuzuru Hanyu ❤️
