I was just deciding which perfume to wear today and y.t brought me here, so I decided I'll wear the 80's giant and for the festive occasion I'll use the Parigi bottle. Small quantity so as not to stun! You have described the characteristics very well, the initial opening will soon begin to vary with the constant presence of castoreum which gives it that wild, raw masculine imprint, which has now totally disappeared, Kouros was the epitome of the 80s, which began with the various Azzaro , Ted Lapidus Bogart, Quorum, Antaeus. In the mid 80's Balenciaga did something very close with Patchouly replacing castoreum But Kouros was the Boss
I've been using Kouros since the 80's, It's getting harder to find now. I love the smell, its one that works nicely with my body chemistry. Thank you I thought my last bottle smelt different to how it used too be.
What's interesting is if you were around when Kouros hit the scene (I was a young teenager) it was the cologne to have. It was classy, had a pedigree, had no competition for its scent profile and it was expensive. It is what all the young men wanted; yes the young men in their 20s! Fast forward just a few short years and Kouros was still popular but guys were wanting something more "modern" going into the mid 80s. This is when the other "pissy" animalic fragrance released that all the young dudes had to have because it was the embodiment of the new 80s! That fragrance was BOSS (no No.1 in the name at that time) by Hugo Boss! It was the updated cologne that every 20 something had to have believe it or not! This era of men's fragrance was coming to a close but we just didn't know it. In a couple years colognes like Fahrenheit, Cool Water, Eternity would forever alter the landscape of men's fragrances and as they say, the rest is history!
I agree with Calvin Klein changing fragrances because young men and teenages now had something to wear that wasn't heavy. Thank you for the comment and for watching.
I wore Kouros when I was a senior in high school in 1987. I hadn't worn it since that time. Last year, I decided to buy the current version. It is not as good as it used to be, imo. The newer Kouros is more spicy, and it's not so animalic anymore. I'm ok with it, but I prefer the old stuff.
