Z axis touch plate for setting work piece height on my all wood homemade CNC. I bought a cheap touch plate online and modified to incorporate a spring in the plate for some protection to my tooling. My DIY CNC uses Mach 4, a C25 breakout board and an ESS Smoothstepper from Warp 9. This touch plate sensor is a normally open circuit and uses an active high setting on a input pin. I show how I set up the Mach 4 configuration to utilize my new Z axis touch plate. I suspect this auto tool zero will increase my accuracy and consistency in my operations.

Love it! I'm using mach III but I think I can find the right settings if I poke around a bit. I still need to wire up the limit switches I bought several months ago. =)

I went without limit switches for a long time. After a couple crashes, I changed my mind.

I use that number to set my Z height in my Mach 4. Mach 4 is my controller software.

I just got my sainsmart cnc 3018 pro and I bought a z probe and it has an alligator clip and a small plug in on it

The touch probe has come in extremely handy for me. I can't believe I waited so long to get one. It wasn't expensive.

Sometimes. It's a hobby that almost covers cost. I'm starting to market more just for a little play money (more tool money) check this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wUDXq0MxemA.html. Once in a while I'll do a cabinet job, but not too often. I like the smaller less physical stuff. Resin maps, humidors, wood wreaths and furniture. Thanks for watching. I am planing on rebuilding my cnc out of aluminum plate. Hopefully those videos will be coming soon.

It may seem like a "dumb" question, but what size spring did you use in your build? I'm looking to do the same thing and your video is one of the only ones I can find on YT that uses a spring???

I sincerely have no idea. It was a small lightweight spring I got at the hardware store. Not a lot of pressure or force. I wish I could help more.
