I'm sure not too much about z-index has changed over the years, therefore the information is still relative in this tutorial. Months of trying to understand how to use a z-index and the values, all cleared up in only 7 minutes. Thank you. I subscribed with notification.

You forgot to mention that in order to the z-index to work - you need to apply background to the div in the css stylesheet

so it doesnt matter what values we give to z index ...... i mean it can be any number big or small depending upon where you want to position it , on top or behind????? where 0 is the default value for z-index ...... am i right ??

Hey, see if this is doable with your expertise. I have a one page website, only contains two elements, a video, an image, same size. I want the video starts play, when it finishes playing, it fades out to show the image beneath. Asked many people, so far can't make it work.

That's great when you are on a laptop. But, what happens when you look at it with a Mobil phone and you are working in pixels? 40 pixels on you laptop and 40 pixels on your Mobil phone looks totally different.

There's an MIT research experiment that's looking to improve the way people learn from tutorial videos-- if you check out their site crowdy.csail.mit.edu/play/35/, you can watch this same video but with some added features. It's free and definitely worth checking out!

This video is wrong. This is not true that you can’t put the child to the back of the parent. Yes, you can. In this example, just remove the z-index from the red block and now you can put the orange one behind it. This is called a stacking context and z-index explanation can’t be full without mentioning it.
