After watching this video, I think I will tackle this myself. I always thought changing the spark plugs on this bike was much more complicated. This could have just saved me a lot of money. Thank you for the well done video.

Great video. Having completed this job of spark plugs on my 2017 SX today, I can say that right tooling is paramount. My various array of extension bars and a wobbly all at 3/8 drive, made the job easier. I didn’t remove my tank, but used a bungee to hold it up, whilst I did the job. I also found that the rubber mating was over the coils, and this caused massive access issues. I had to use a Stanley knife to expose the coil packs better. Once exposed the job itself was ok. Middle 2 as expected we’re simple. But the outer 2 were a pig! I also found they weren’t even tightened up properly either. But without the wobbly neither would have come out. The multi plug harness for cylinder 1 was very awkward for access and had to be kept out of the way constantly. I also realised that the coil pack plugs, have a orange rubber dust protector which lives inside the plug. On removing the plug, one of the rubber seals dropped down and was a mission, to recover it. Beware on removing the plugs. But replacing is straight forward. The reverse of removal. I did torque mine to 13nm. On starting the bike, once complete, it was a task to get it going. At first. I thought it was plug issues or coil packs. But more than likely a fuel issue. Once going, it sounded rough, and so I let it idle. It calmed down. So I turned it off and tried again. No issues. Probably where the tank had been lifted for 2 hrs. Won’t be rushing to do it again…..

I noticed mistake that causes an air box leak. I have caught myself doing the same thing in a video too. The MAP sensor bracket is not meant to be pinched between the two halves of the air box. Instead it should be inserted into the slots that pass through both halves after the air box is assembled. Nice to see how the balancing is done, thanks! That's my next chore.

Could you make a video explaining the ht lead extender? Im trying to learn the vaccum sync myself and have no idea where to buy a tachometer to read the idle accurately. Its driving me nuts! Ps im in australia, so it should be the same name for the tool?
@TheSussexBiker
@TheSussexBiker 5 лет назад
Hi I can't make a video explaining the HT extender as I borrowed it from an old work colleague and I no longer work with him. It comes from this type of Vintage Motorcycle ignition tester- www.toolsource.com/motorcycle-ignition-tools-c-468_872/tecmate-ts91-ignitionmate-peakvoltage-ignition-tester-p-102757.html?tsqtid= But you could make one up from an ht lead and some fittings. As I showed in the video the bike's rev counter is surprisingly accurate or at least it was on mine.

Ive recently taken the collector box off underneath my 14 plate sx and fitted a straight through new manifold and cans. 4 into 2 . Since doing this ive noticed that the bikes engine can die or cut out at low revs which never happened before. Is there any adjustment i need to do . Cheers rob

Is it necessary to drain the fueltank before removing the connectors or are the connectors self sealing? I think myself hearing fuel left in the tank at 5:00 though.

No it's not strictly necessary- I didn't drain mine, you will get some leakage from the pipe/connector so use cloths to catch the minor spillage.

I've got a question, I recently installed a Healtech Quickshifter, ride with it a little bit, didn't like it much, had no problems before and with the Quickshifter on my bike, after removing the Quickshifter completely from the bike, plugged everything back where it should be plugged in, made a 30-minute-ish ride, when i tried to throttle to full speed i noticed it didn't felt right and after a while it shutdown the bike by itself, luckily i was on a safe place by then. I assumed it had something to do with the spark plugs (Google and motorcycle forums related), so i changed them the day after, but it didn't fix the problem...Do you have some experience with this kind of problems?. Should it have something to do with unplugging the Quickshifter, that my ECU or bike has a malfuction on the injection or any of kind? Best regards - A fellow biker!
@TheSussexBiker
@TheSussexBiker 2 года назад
Hi I'm sorry I have no experience with the Healtech Quickshifter, All I can suggest is you carefully check any connections you have touched for open/bent pins and also any connectors that you may have disturbed in the vicinity of where you were working. Good luck. You could check to see if any fault codes are logged in the engine ecu?

Hi, many thanks for the video, it was extremely helpful. I've just done the clearances on my z1000sx. The bike has 37k and it's the first time they've been done. It was running well but when I checked the clearances there were 7 that were out of spec and 4 that were borderline. I adjusted them and all was looking good until I came to sync the throttle bodies. Once again this has never been done on my bike. The engine appears to run ok (as far as i can tell without reassembly and a test ride) but the gauge on cylinder 4 has excessive flutter, making it impossible to get a good reading. I triple checked the clearances and have also swapped the coil and plug with another cylinder but the issue remains (it's not the gauge). Any ideas what might be causing this? I've just ordered a compression tester and will check the readings, I'm expecting number 4 to be low as i think it might be a valve or head gasket issue but would appreciate any advice you may be able to offer? Thanks in advance.
@TheSussexBiker
@TheSussexBiker 4 месяца назад
Hi Ian, sorry missed this comment - I'm guessing you've sorted this - I have a cheap set of gauges and they do fluctuate a lot and have dampers to eliminate this. I'm guessing you tried another gauge - if you're sure that the clearances are correct on that cylinder which by the sounds of it they are as you've checked them - possibly an air leak or something wrong /seized on the throttle body. Hope you get it sorted :)
@ianfutube
@ianfutube 4 месяца назад
@@TheSussexBiker No worries, yes it's all sorted now and at 38k is running sweet. You hit the nail on the head, I didn't realise it needed damping and ended up removing the throttle bodies. On the 2011 model the vacuum feeder for cylinder 4 is twice the size of the other three cylinders which causes much greater fluctuations. Once I chopped the feed pipes and fitted the damping Valves I was able to get a steady reading and everything went smoothly from there onwards 👍

Hi - ive got a couple of questions as im just about to purchase the healtech esync to do this job.... 1. On the esync one of the pipes has a "T" on it - does that need to go anywhere or just be blanked off.? Thanks very much for the video - very helpful...oh there is a specific kawasaki tool (right angled screw driver) for the job. www.cmsnl.com/products/pilot-screw-adjuster_570011239/ if anyone else does this.
@TheSussexBiker
@TheSussexBiker 4 года назад
Hi thanks for the comments/questions. I'm not familiar with the esync tool but it looks very cool! I'm guessing you can blank off the 'T@ as all you need is to measure vacuum from each port (check the manual for the esync). I bought a cheap imitation screwdriver like the special tool and I couldn't get it to fit in the space and allow access to the screws (it needed to be shorter after the bend) maybe the official tool is made better and shaped differently? As for the meter I used a HT tester someone at work had that came with an old motorcycle ignition tester, if you watched the video you will see that actually the rev counter on the bike was the same as the meter so I reckon you can get by without a separate rev counter as per the manual.
