Lost my father to alcoholism this year - listening to Zach Bryan's music gives me comfort and this song reminds me of my dad a lot. A lot of Zach's songs have helped me deal with the loss of a parent and the grief that comes.
Us kids that grew up in bars see life a little different. Your songs are very therapeutic for me and have helped me tremendously! Jesus uses you to help those of us that have experienced pain. I am praying for you. Thank you for what you do.
This song definitely takes me to being a little kid in my small towns (pop. 700) dive bar getting chicken strip and asking all the patrons for quarters so I could play pool.
O God and Heavenly Father, grant to us the serenity of mind to accept that which cannot be changed, courage to change that which can be changed, and wisdom to know the one from the other through Jesus Christ, our Lord, Amen.”
Glad someone else understands what the song is about. To many cry babies think this song is about daddy issues and his dad being a drunk. You nailed it
my father was from Pittsburgh Pa I moved there from Mississippi after paw paw died we used to sneak out past my bedtime when mamma wasn't round to stop us and go play around the old mills and ride around in his old dodge charger and sit on the banks of the mon. I grew up and daddy started smokin stuff he shouldn't. parents break up and I go back to Mississippi with mamma. I Still miss those cold fall nights with him shame the city changed so much in those years even if I went back it would never be the same
This is the male version of Rebas’ “Fancy.” Haha Love this song! He’s become one of my favorite songwriters and voices! Burn Burn Burn is top fav! Keep it comin Zach! 🙌✌️

Lyrics I don't wanna bet but my father wrote a check That I bet his ass could never cash He's betting on the eight ball landing in the side wall Cold blooded killer if you ask But every night he needs me to land himself a red three Corner pocket at 12 AM Only twelve years old but I got a hold of a pole stick I was gifted from him My father is a betting man But I got myself a steady hand He's sitting in the corner with a six pack of Corona Betting that his son'll win again Go bet another six pack Bet I make comeback I know that this table's got a lean Won't you take me fishin'? And I wanna try out For the seventh grade football team You'll probably be nothing but the town's old drunkard And die on a smoke stained stool Right now he's got a bargain that he's taken too far On his boys game of nine-ball pool My father was a betting man But I got myself a steady hand He's sitting in the corner with a six pack of Corona Betting that his son'll win again My father was a betting man My father was a betting man But I got myself a steady hand He's sitting in the corner with a six pack of Corona Betting that his son'll win again I don't wanna bet but my daddy wrote a check That I bet his ass could never cash He's betting on the eight ball landing in the side wall Cold-blooded killer if you ask
Man this brought me back to when I was a kid racing BMX. I was good. Real good. But I started cause I wanted to ride bikes with friends. My dad turned it into living out a glory through me instead. By the end I didn't even wanna get on the track anymore. I was just so burnt out and tired of what I set out to have fun doing being turned into a job when I wasn't even outta electro school yet
That's not all the songs about.......if you listen it's kind of about a father who may have been a drunk but he would bet every last cent on his son to come out winning even if it meant he lost and went broke
@kostassalerakis1024 I am almost willing to bet the song writers dad didn't even play pool. Sounds alot like a metaphor. But either way just betting all your money because your drunk has nothing to do with betting on your son's success.
"GO bet another six pack bet ill maje a comeback i know that this tables gotta lean, wont you take me fishin and i wanna try out for the 7th grade foot ball team" idk why i LOVE this part he just sing it so well with so much UGGH WHAT THE FUCK IS THE WORD idk but its so good
I don't wanna bet, but my father wrote a check that I bet his ass could never cash He's bettin' on the eight ball landing in the side wall, cold-blooded killer if you ask But every night, he needs me to land himself a red three-corner pocket at 12 A.M Only twelve years-old, but I got a hold of a pool stick I was gifted from him My father is a bettin' man But I got myself a steady hand He's sittin' in the corner with a six-pack of Corona Bettin' that his son'll win again Go bet another six-pack Bet I make a comeback Count on that this table's got a lean Won't you take me fishing? And I want to try out for the seventh grade football team You'll probably be nothin' but this town's old drunkard and die on a smoke-stained stool But right now, he's got a bargain that he's taken too far on his boy's game of nine-ball pool My father was a bettin' man But I got myself a steady hand He's sittin' in the corner with a six-pack of Corona Bettin' that his son'll win again My father was a bettin' man My father was a bettin' man But I got myself a steady hand He's sittin' in the corner with a six pack of Corona Bettin' that his son'll win again I don't wanna bet, but my daddy wrote a check that I bet his ass could never cash He's bettin' on the eight ball landing in the side wall Cold-blooded killer if you ask
