Just a suggestion, maybe give black and white a rest for a while and focus on your colour work because there is a significant difference in the quality (and black and white can be much easier to make look appealing)
I actually disagree. I think people are easily impressed with color, and in some ways it can be used as a crutch for bad lighting. With black and white you really have to fight for good lighting and composition because you can't lean on the additionally visual element of color. However, black and white is an easy way to make a project more visually cohesive since you don't have to coordinate the colors of your props, set, and wardrobe; which is not conducive to low/no-budget filmmaking.
