Scott Patterson I seen him do this with BLS at an Ozzfest probably 10 years ago and it was amazing. The craziest part is it was absolutely down pouring rain and he still out on stage jamming.
I love how, even though he's a big famous guitarist, he still performs on small stages too! He played at a bar in Green Bay, Wisconsin onces. Tickets were like $20!
Jimi and I were talking just the other day he says he's flattered by all the covers of all his music. He has one wish though and that would be for everyone to leave Voo Doo Chile just for the eons. It's a very personal song he holds dear to him. I said I'd pass his request to to the living he politely said thanks man. Jimi is above us and in every sense of the world. Just don't ask him he will humbly disagree. Oh he asked for us to send his love to Linda. I said we would.
To the people that think this version is shit, then you obviously don't like Jimi hendrix then. He did to the song what hendrix did to the song every single night he played it. Hendrix jammed the shit out of this song in every way possible; and that is exactly what zakk is doing, just in his own style. THIS SONG IS MEANT TO BE A RAW, HEAVY FUCKIN SONG. Zakk is just doing what he does best. I'm pretty sure the haters out there all hate Jimi's rendition of The star spangled banner; well you know what? Jimi thought it was beautiful.
***** it's a very bad cover. No intrigue no groove way much to busy, he don't let the song breathing, he is lost..... He is trying too much ... Hendrix was never too busy.
+hugo bonin Hendrix got way busy sometimes. He was a great player but he was not without fault or a god. I thyink this version is pretty fuckin cool. A updated hard rock take on a psychedelic rock tune.
I love Zakk. He's always been a working man's musician. He didn't just sit back on his Ozzy cred. He got out and did clinics and small shows quite a bit. He had a huge impact on me growing up because I actually got to see and talk to him at a guitar clinic and he shattered a lot of illusions I and a lot of people have about playing guitar, gear, and all that. And he's still doing it.
i was in the same boat. saw him at a clinic 3 months before this was shot, in the back parking lot of a music store. Most musicians that came by for "guitar month" clinics played maybe 20 minutes then answered a few questions. Zakk was there for several hours. Played 30-40 minutes, did q&a for a half hour, then played some more.Did that for hours, only stopping to down a can of budweiser every 10 minutes. Then signed autographs for everyone before leaving.Never met any famous person as down to earth as he was, and he would answer anything people asked him.
I have decided that no-one can have a favourite guitarist anymore! That's because the guitar is the best instrument in the world because it's uses are so varied that you'd need an infinite list of headings and a favourite in each one before you could choose a 'best of show' which would have the same credibility as in a dog show in 'Spinal Taps' film 'Best of Show' But we can spend our time exploring and that is worthy. We can seek velvet, soaring, smooth glissando in a latin vein with Carlos Santana We can hear unbelievably fast, precise pizzicato from John McLauglin We can relax to the smooth sounds of Earl Klugh, John Martyn, Al Di Meola & Pat Metheny If we're blue there's Peter Green, Buddy Guy, Bonnie Raitt, Rory Gallagher, Stan Webb, Gary Moore and a host of others I we want something 'continental' try Paco De Lucia, Django Reinhardt and Manitas De Plata If we want to be blown away thanks for Steve Vai, Joe Satriani etc. To enjoy folk at it's best we need Bert Jansch, Richard Thompson, Joni MItchell and John Renbourn A bit of general rock with Peter Frampton, Nancy Wilson, Albert Lee, Alvin Lee, Johnny Winter and Stevie Ray Vaughan Get heavier with Tony Iommi, Orianthi, Slash, Richie Blackmore, Tony Bourge and Angus Young There's Clapton, who can do it all. Then there's Hendrix . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . !!!!!!! Apologies to all those omitted - for example, Jeff Beck, Duane Allman, Jan Akkerman, Joan Jett, BB King, Robert Johnson, Gordon Giltrap, Martin Taylor, Dickie Betts, Roy Buchanan, Andy Powell & Ted Turner, Steve Howe, Jimmy Page, Chris Rea, Joe Walsh, Robin Trower . . . . . .
He flows like the universe. Dude he's out of his mind whe he plays. Like in old times it was just the way man. Hendrix, Stevie, Jimmy, and of course Skydog Duane Allman. He's the man.
❤️ For Skydog. You cannot forget him. He's the whole reason I started learning to play guitar. 😎 I've carried his name my entire life but it wasn't until 38 yrs old that I finally understood. And it affected me so deeply I want to learn to play myself. 👍
I think Hendrix would have approved of this interpretation. He got the same tonal vibe that is extremely hard to do btw, and he has the same sort of live exploration, on the verge of losing the song but bringing it back, that Jimi loved to do. 10/10 would drop acid to this.
#1. I have seen Hendrix 3x and 2 of them were awesome great, not inconsistent at all. #2. I have seen Zakk a ton of times and he is also great and awesome and consistent. The point is they each had/have their own style and express themselves, their own inner being through their playing, their art, their souls, their individuality differently. Their energy is totally different so you can't compare them. Just appreciate their greatness.
This guy influenced so many players, and musicians, it is humbling to IMAGINE Zakk rocking out in anything less than an sold out arena. His style, and tenacity can be heard in so many artists, yet here he is jamming in what is possibly a small ass strip mall parking lot in middle of nowhere. Zakk is the fucking Man!!! Lotta bands don't last 6 months, and he's been doing this all his life. How much cooler does it get than that?
This was a guitar clinic at my brothers store, his wife was preg,we sat drank played piano in store and had a fucking awesone time...mike shot this shit..no one else..
@@Democratic_Industrialism Don't worry mate there's many if us youngins discovering this music! Many teens around my area are getting into instruments and old school music even some are inspired by the 50s
@@idontreadreplies.252 well it does have a flag on it that represents a separatist movement to keep states rights to own fucking slaves lmfao. Sick guitar tho, maybe the half burned confederate flag is representative of something else🤷♂️🤷♂️
This is such a gem to have on tape. This recording is beautiful, the rotovibe in the beginning, the solo with the teeth and behind the head. All of that outside of a Subway somewhere in Michigan. It’s a great story to share. I love this video!
.....This video is like watching a rock god on guitar just land from some other dimension, announcing his arrival to earth, in some quaint midwest mall parking lot. And then just proceded after that to tear the top off the rock n roll scene from then on...This strait up Badd AZZ! TY for posting!
Bravo kralju..!!! Jedini dostojan gitarista na ovom svetu koji ima pravo da svira i zastupa KRALJA HENDRIKSA..!!! To pravo mu ja lično HENDRIKS i dao...i to se i vidi i čuje..!!!
The utmost respectable way to give jimi an honorable mention. I keep coming back to this and after each time listening, I realize, jimi may be the greatest. Gone too soon. Miss and love you you man. Your music Carrie's on and lives on through those who also appreciated you man. Man, we miss you. Got a drug problem, talk to me, I did, now I'm sober and can appreciate these things. We love you for reading and taking time out to ponder. Love to be spread.
So many people cant just look at individual talent for what it is. If you are watching this you must have some interest in Zakk or Jimmy, or guitar and that is great! I have been playing for 26 years. I love the instrument and I love my genres. I personally do not like say, slipknot for example, so you know what? I don't go there. I don't label musicians as "Gods" or crap like that. I watch because I like their style. This song was a jam song, and Jimi, Zakk and Stevie both have their own way of doing it. Playing in a strip mall is playing, not a status.
Imagine going back and telling this dude playing guitar in a random parking lot he'd be honoring Dimebag Darrell playing guitar for Pantera.. Zakk is one of the best guitarists of all time
Any fellow guitarist should admit that this is a superb cover, regardless of their opinion of ZW. To create this much energy in such a weird, unmusical and sterile environment? Hats off to him.
Dang, I worked at that subway last year, I cant believe it was open in 1993. must be one of the first. You never knew what happens in ur work parking lot 90 years before you are born.
I like this version much better than the one he did years later with the acoustic electric, that shit was overkill but this one is awesome, I must learn this song!!
The crazy train was packed, so he took the subway and met mr Crowley, he was devastated. He then met the mad man and he told him no more tears, he then sent his tapes to Ozzy and thought it was a shot in the dark, Damn I ran out of puns.
