Zanele Muholi is a photographer and self-described “visual activist” who sees her work as a lifetime endeavor aimed at redefining the face of Africa both within and outside the continent, and fighting violence against LGBTI people.
Rewriting queer history, Muholi has rose to fame forefronting the tragedies and the victories of the communities. She exhibited 48 prints from Faces and Phases at the 2013 Carnegie International, and was awarded the International’s Fine Prize for emerging artists.
