The Zaouli is a sacred mask dancer from the Gouro’s tribe in the Ivory Coast . In fact he’s so sacred that, when he comes out, people await and he doesn’t stay long. His dance steps are precised and he doesn’t move around much ( like this guy did left and right)because every steps has a meaning. The black guys are certainly struggling artists in Europe and decided to imitate the Zaouli to gain momentum, but this one is a failure. He was kind of clowning around. My advice is you can get an idea from a culture and innovate create something different for monetary gain. But do not copy exactly that culture attributes and expose it as it’s a simple thing and own it. That become an insult and the dilution of their sacred rituals.
I’m from Côte d’Ivoire and zaouli is not a sacred mask in fact it’s a profane mask. But what you said was correct, they shouldn’t tried to appropriated it but appreciated it 😊
Why not use it for entertainment? Dance is to entertain. UNESCO says "Zaouli plays an educational, playful and aesthetic role..." which doesn't seem to contradict a street performance in France.
People are denaturing our dance like this, you should at the source to know more about Zaouli.. this grimace you're doing there is not Zaouli but a simple trotting on a rythm of a drum which doesn't also give a song of Zaouli dance. Please 🥺🥺🥺 stop falsifying our culture like this,, please 🥺🥺 please 🥺🥺

Omg whhhy...they work they're way into everyyything. EVERYTHING.🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️. The Zaouli is entertaining enough. I guess so... anyway, I hope they flipped a profit that day smh.
It's the same story, yts will take what was originally ours and make it their own. I won't be surprised if I see some yt person doing this on TikTok or something :/
Hasn't enough been taken from us already???!!!!! ..... What am seeing here?! Not one black face in the 'dance troop'! MY KINGS AND QUEENS: PLEASE stop giving away what is ours ..... There are no thanks for it .... There is no gratitude for it .... There is no real appreciation for it .... It's just something else to be stolen, plagiarised and claimed as belonging to anyone but us! Enough!
I must admit that I'm a non black person from Europe, who loves to watch african dancing especially the Zaouli. I myself have been teached some african dancing and drumming by african people, and I felt good while doing it, and thanks to this black friends, but I will never do it for money. I'm dancing because I love it. What about the Zaouli dancer? Isn't he a black man? This is a very difficult kind of dancing, and I guess that not many white people can do this.
@@willycoyote2866 willy just shut up! Authentic black dance is done by black people PERIOD! Just like people claiming to be triracial, it's mostly white people. You sitting there saying that you teach black people how to be black just like a typical lame, pasty, lazy ,mediocre white person. You white people are always inviting yourselves into black platforms until it gets diluted by non-black people. Get a life fool.
@@missrose5261 they aren't even doing it right, this isn't about being happy and enjoying it. This is literally another example of white people appropriating something. Their dance wasn't even impressive.
Some French ladies dancing poorly doesn't damage anyone's culture. But all the hateful xenophobes in these comments make me think twice about a trip to the ivory coast...
The video was shot in Dijon. Known for that Mustard. In France. ( So, multiple culture and securalism) It was a street dance. You don't have to be black to be able to dance Zaouli. Even if, historically it's an celebrating African dance .
@@Lumpy121 its not zaouli stupid because its a sacred black dance for black people of africa. Does authentic French wine grown in America is French? No. So you lose.
Personally these wemen just don't have enough grace to be backup for the lead male...he should make them understand that like him... spontaneity and vitality ... is more than trotting to the beat as if in a studio .
There are certain cultural expressions that are particular to a unique culture....Such is Zaouli....Let us leave this for the people of Cote d'ivoire because all else is a poor and weak expression of their glory. So what are some moments that even approach the majesty of Zaouli in Western culture? here is an example: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4YWPhmduSDQ.html it is unique to the culture and times of the west and can't be imitated by any other culture effectively.
You can Leave Zaouli for the people of Côte d'Ivoire but you have no right to tell ZEDEKA what art forms they can practice. Artists should be encouraged to try new things. Why not this dance form? It's cool. You make Côte d'Ivoire look bad by being negative towards the performing arts.
How is this cultural appropriation? It's neither unacknowledged (the video is titled "Zaouli") nor inappropriate (it's a dance troop giving a public performance of a typically public dance form).
He wasn't as good as some other dancers from Ivory Coast. The entourage of women seemed unnecessary. There's a lot of people complaining about cultural appropriation, but I thought it wasn't that bad, it was ok. There are many people who have not even seen this type of dance once, so for them, it's a good introduction. If you really want to familiarise yourself with the culture, then look up some other videos.
I didn't know anything about zaouli, but I've been watching a lot of videos of it. It's very mesmerizing. But the dancer here isn't doing what they do in the other videos. This guy is trotting or running in place. Whatever he's doing, it's MUCH easier than what the actual zaouli dancers do.
*I absolutely love this.* It’s unfortunate to see so many comments against this especially since I am African. Our cultures are far too beautiful not to be shared as cultures should bring people of together not focus on creating a distinct separation. That focus on ownership/separation is exactly why racism exists; Due to a lack of understanding and exposure. *We are all African.*
Culture isn't meant to be shared. Racism exist because of colonialism. You're African, but you need to decolonize. Do you think that Japanese would agree if we did that with their culture ? No. And it's okay. But when it comes to us Africans we have to agree ?? Why ??
@@minaonyamsi1091 culture isn't meant to be shared 🤣 yet you wear shoes and western clothes. You use cars, telephones, internet, medicine. Stop sharing our culture you clown
What does it mean Zaouli for you ? Are you from this part of africa where that dans is performed ? Can you read the steps of the dansers matching the rythmes ? I can attest that those women did a good performance.
@@pascalk5801 what are you attesting to? That authentic zaouli is done by black culture or that you're not of African culture but just being a natural idiot
Our people selling their birthright for money. Now they already named this traditional dancing steps as the most impossible dance in the world. But our people have been doing it for thousands of years, nobody heard of it. Now they are bringing it on and will surely look for a way to claim it just like other things too. These pink people are flushing into African cultures so much that they want to know it all, be part of it, and later sell it back to us on the internet or present it in the museums, and later renaming it. Like Clara steps movement, or steps dancing steps. That time you will tell them why did you rename it, they will say didn't we pay you? Same way they did with all hip-hop songs and raps in the 80's. Te Romans and Greeks did it in ancient EGYPT too. This is because they don't have a culture or tradition anywhere, and they are not natives to any part of the world. All the aborigines are black skinned, Egypt, Americas, North America, Australia, Britain, Mexico, Brazil etc. It is fascinating to them cos they don't understand it at all.
@@eugeniaboone5602 thanks my sister, it is just saddening that we Africans have been subjected to a system that made us trust our enemies. Wolves in Sheep 🐑 clothing.
@@paulhomsy2751 it's a sacred African dance being destroyed for white enjoyment. Just like Jesus a black man being destroyed by whites for their enjoyment. The point is that you're a I DIOT.
