You guys don't realize that Frank was nuts(1), he thought of these crazy, badass segments(2), he taught somebody else how to play them(3), then he records it(4), then his extremely talented son carries on his father's vision almost note for note(5). Pure genius.
Shiela Gonzalez is an AWESOME Talent along with Dweezil, Napolean and this amazing group of musicians ! They dont need the showboat ego of Steve Vai or Terry Bozzio, as good as they are. Dweezil & the group ZPZ stand on their own . What a tribute to Frank !!! I just got the ZPZ 5 DVD SET ! Dweezil has created a masterpiece from Frank's classics !
Zappa trumped 75% of the things I suffered through in composition class, wouda mowed his lawn, carried his equipment, dumped the trash whateer, for just 1 lesson. Might have saved a lot of wasted tuition.
I've admittedly been a little reluctant to get into the ZPZ era, but they had me at that absolutely mindblowing drop-in (and that guitar-neck cam.) Everyone here gives 110%. Truly worthy successors to the Zappaman!
I was there for Dweezils 1st tour & watching them blew me away , after seeing the Mothers in the 60's & 70's , then Frank in the 70's & 80's I went in not expecting much , I mean after seeing FZ do all this stuff I didn't have high expectations of Dweezil , boy was I happily wrong , got the DVD/CD box set now & watch it all the time , getting too old for concerts anymore .
Scheila Gonzales is a bloody genius. Her sax playing has that staccato Maceo influence that I love so much. The Rhodes piano intro is nothing short of classic. Zappa has constructed a wonderful vehicle for improvisation with this song. ZPZ does a fantastic job!
great great music God the weasel you get there you getting there man the saxophonist was real good too I like to say the whole group was great I appreciate that thank you.
Great version. Somehow , stupid me, I didn't feel like buying the whole ZPZ idea in the beginning, but after seeing several videos, I believe that FZ is smiling from Rock Heaven watching his son keeping his legacy alive.
I have seen Zappa plays Zappa...Good show but i have also seen Frank in concert two times, There is no way anyone can replicate Frank and his bands. If you didn't get to see Frank and even if you did seeing Dweezil is worth while.
Sheila Gonzales is a real musician and nice person and can play better than most sax players out there. She is NO amatuer!! So whoever used that term to descibe her does not know her or has not heard her play.
You know, Ruth was such at one with the band, totally there, that I never thought of her as a Chick In The Band. Says a lot for her and perhaps a bit for earlier onset of althz. Ruth was such an epic additon to the band - in fact - Frank wrote stuff just for her, her mere presence made the band and the music much better and he chops, her skill, challeneged Frank. I have to admit I never once thought of Ruth as being anything other than One Of The Band.
Just saw them play this tonight and it was a monster. They destroyed the place. More swing and feel than this version. Tonight's was both jazzier & heavier. Chris Norton killed the piano part and Scott Thunes just about did structural damage to the theater. Outstanding!!
To All Dat! Freaking Funking Frank Approved - For Sure! We miss you Frank! You must be lookin' down, proud that your family torch continues to burn talent and desire. Zappa for President! And Merry Fucking New Year!
A beautiful rendition by a fuckin kick-ass sax artist! and although I love Dweezil to death, I wish I could find a video of The Man performing this piece. I dream of this piece, it is the rockingest work in all of music-dom!!! Que Viva Frank Zappa!!!
this was great, but this is one of those songs that was perfect on tape and just sounded different when Frank and his selected co-conspirators played it. though Dweez always treats his dad's music with respect. something I'm not 100% sure Frank would approve of. haha
Okay, look - we're all used to Zappa being the Man's Last Refuge band - chicks don't like Frank. Frank never had chick's IN the band, right? So here's Shiela and it's..Whaaa. It does jolt. The inner guy voice thing is going - Should be NMB! Or Randy, or anybody but a .. a.. a Chick! She will never have the same groove as a guy but she does have chops. All shit aside - she deserve props. Not sure how I liek her singin Dirty Love, but she does play. It's D's band now, get used to it.
I would like to quote DZ from Ann Arbor MI. "ifeel my fathers music has skipped a generation". So why is the ZFT trying to sue every other band including alumni for performing his music?? Good job keeping it alive!! Instead of wasting the money trying to erase his memory it should be used to celebrate it!! ZPZ alone can't carry the tourch!! Sorry DZ will never be half the guitar player his father was !!
Ahmet? Is the one who is doing the sueing. He has gone after Dweezil, stopped ZPZ. It's sad but very common in families. It's now 2020 and Dweezil is a superlative guitar player.
The keyboard and bass work is excellent . A solid A ........... The sax isnt horrible but it doesnt win you over either . Theres a few moments of real courage there but others that just fall flat I give it a C+ / B- ................ The percussion is great B+ ....... the xylophone is killer A-
