To require a chaperone to ensure there’s no physical or mental abuse for a supposedly light hearted dance competition, just shows that this does not fall under the label of entertainment but rather a programme which creates enormous amounts of money for the channel no matter the consequences. There is a massive cover up by the BBC as we have seen in the past and the integrity of the producers and those who create these programmes needs to be fully examined.
it's not the show's fault - it is the individual dancers who think they are superior over the contestants. The blame should be laid firmly at the feet of the professional dancers involved.
the pressure to win and the quality of the dancing has changed , once someone is brave enough to point out unacceptable behaviour its easier for others to also speak out , human nature , strength in numbers
If you knew about abuse and victims (especially in a power imbalance situation such as parent-child/older-younger siblings, schools and professional sports/dance) then you would know that it ALWAYS takes a long time for the victim to speak out. There are a lot of reasons for this but the main one is (a false sense of) shame and a feeling that you "should have" done this or that eg. told someone at the time. You are also cowed by the idea of confronting the abuser (or meeting them again, even in court) and it's tempting just to try to put it in the past and try to forget about it because the LAST thing you feel like doing is re-living the painful memories...
I am at a loss, as Zara and her boyfriend included her Strictly dance partner in their Instagram account, even after finishing the show. I haven't followed them for several months, but they seemed to be friendly. However, what made me unfollow her and her boyfriend was that it seemed to me he and his friend Pete were kind of jerks with her in their content and she just stands and takes it. You know, demeaning behavior at times. Not the sort I would accept. I don't understand why she accepts it.
@@user-wi1xw5sd1c do u think they'd sack him for merely 'pushing' her? there's video of whatever happened which was bad enough to lead to him getting kicked off, have u seen it? or just want to excuse bad behaviour of someone u don't even know?
@@katiemp670 Have you seen this video? I believed Amber Heard initially until I watched the trial and realised that she was not a truthful person. A chaperone would safeguard all concerned.
I'm surprised James Jordan wasn't fired but that was back before caring about women was fashionable enough. He was absolutely vile the way he shouted at and berated his female dancers. In one case he made a female actress cry and Strictly just allowed it. You can see from how he speaks to women on reality shows that he's a vile misogynist. Horrible. No idea how Ola tolerates him. He's abusive.
Zara seemed like she really got on ln with him..i mean he met her family, she met his wife ,they hanged out even after the show finished 😮why do all that if he was that bad 👎
I don't know the details of this case but it's common knowledge among counsellors that abuse victims - especially those who "got used to" abuse from a partner or relative when they were younger - become easily attached to their abuser. They're sadly conditioned to being the victim of controlling narcissists and so it's their "normal" 😢 We should be glad that Zara appears to be on the way to breaking that conditioning and "waking up" (so to speak) to the reality of what she suffered and the fact that she doesn't have to tolerate it.
@@daniellephillips6184 people stay with abusive partners, human relationships are complicated. And sometimes it takes another person to tell you that the way you are being treated isn’t right or normal

The BBC has consistently shown itself to be negligent, deaf, and heartless and lazy to hold itself and those it employs accountable for their behaviour. Why we are surprised it’s still happening is the most mystifying.
The blame should be laid firmly at the feet of the professional dancers. These people are so competitive that they force this on to their contestants. Bruce Forsyth said when he started the show, he thought it was just going to be good nature fun, but he was surprised at how serious the professionals took the show.
I’m going to put a different side to this …I really feel its unfortunate that great dancers like Graziano & Giovanni have left the program, I feel there’s a situation of jumping on the bandwagon because Amanda Abbington couldn’t cope & the training was more than she anticipated. If these personalities had an issue they should have spoke to HR on the program at the time & NOT all this time after the event. When you think how long the program has been running & the amount of tv personality ( I resist the word stars as in recent yrs their not particularly high profile people) have been through i have to say I’m not feeling the sympathy. Yes it’s stressful their out of their comfort zone.. all celebrities have said previously they didn’t realise how hard work it would be. These celebrities are not shrinking violet’s they are, where they are, because they have pushed themselves forward & have a voice. They should put it behind them & say “ that wasn’t for me” I support the dancers.
Zara didn't report Graziano to the BBC, multiple third parties did. BBC's HR contacted Zara as part of their investigation. There is video evidence of Graziano hitting, kicking and spitting at Zara. It is unfortunate that strictly has lost talented dancers. It is also unfortunate that said dancers felt so comfortable abusing their colleagues.
Out of all the competitors on Strictly, we have two ladies, who say they felt bullied, one post a professional dancer being fired, having being friends with him on social media since the show finished, which is confusing, because surely if you felt bullied and abused, you wouldn't be friends with them for 2 years. Someone making you do something, which is hard work and tiring, over and over again, until you get it right, is just part of any sport Alison said that there was always someone around and I am sure that the number of people asking the contestants if they are OK, from hair, make up, costumes and producers, that if something wasn't right they had the space to say "actually no" Coming from competitive dancing world, I know it's hard and for someone who's not been in a competitive environment may not understand how it is and find it hard.
Multiple people have reported both Giovanni and Graziano's behaviour to the BBC. In Graziano's case, it wasn't actually Zara that reported him, they contacted her as part of a WORKPLACE investigation. The BBC has reviewed video evidence of Graziano kicking, hitting and spitting at Zara. Graziano has even admitted to it. Why on Earth are you defending this kind of behaviour? Your comment and others seem to suggest that it's ok to abuse colleagues because your work is stressful. In what other profession would this be acceptable? At the end of the day we are talking about dancing - it's not that serious, is it?
@@piptig5327I completely agree with you. Also the lines have become blurred between a tv show and competitiveness. This isn’t a formal dancing competition. The professionals are there to teach and support and bring out the best in the celebrities. Feels like it’s just become all about winning at any cost. The behaviour reported (and admitted to) whether it happened once or 10 times is totally unacceptable.
To be fair, it has not been proved at all that Giovanni oGraziano did those things. Graziano admitted himself that he did a kick one time, the other things are hearsay. Not saying it’s right to do that - obviously isn’t, however I’m wondering if ‘kick’ in the sense we may understand it is correct. To be devil’s advocate, I can imagine a dancer giving a hard nudge to one of your feet to guide it in the right direction and this could be misinterpreted. The professionals do move and twist the contestants bodies quite forcefully anyway in the rehearsal rooms. Apparently, Graziano is extremely depressed and was put on suicide watch by his family. I do think people should be careful how they judge & condemn others until there is definitive proof. I’m not saying bullying didn’t occur, but just because someone is a woman or a celebrity shouldn’t make them believed outright with no proof. We all saw that happen with poor Johnny Depp and the vile Amber Heard accusations. Look how that all turned out. Just sayin’
@@rmorris2106 The whole point is that this show set out to be fun and entertaining not an Olympic sport! It seems that a lot of toxicity and cover ups have risen to the surface and when a Saturday evening programme becomes overly serious and full of controversy, then it’s lost its lustre and has gone past its sell by date. Yes, there maybe millions of viewers who love Strictly but isn’t it better to leave a table just wanting that bit more to eat than feeling stuffed and sickly?!!
Dance is a discipline. I haven’t seen the footage but I am assuming this goes beyond pushing someone to their limits to get the best out of them. If not, I don’t understand
This conversation segment is completely missing the point about what in fact is an example of domestic/partner type abuse just in a work/teaching setting. Something which has also been a problem in male female partner competitive activities like Ice dancing over the years and sometimes between coaches and athletes. Including in tennis. The point Alison raised about professional boundaries is absolutely right, it is an imbalanced relationship and there should be an absolute no relationship rule. Which is clearly outlined and agreed to by all involved before they start. But Strictly and the BBC have always used that "element of chemistry" and the are they/aren't they storyline about couples, especially younger, single attractive celebrity, professional dancer couples as a selling point and attention generating method. So they really need to look at that dynamic as well.
This lady knows exactly what she is doing telling lies to stay in the limelight she's a z list celebrity that everyone is now talking about so she got what she wanted ATTENTION 😂

I have been in situations when it's your word against theirs..and I can assure you these narcissistic abusers are operators..always will I take a chaperone when can and also have my phone on record ..
This all seems to be getting out of control. The "celebs" go in thinking about the money and attention, dressing up and having fun however the professional dancers are just that, professional, its their job and they have standards to meet. Perhaps some go beyond frustrated and get snappy but they rely on the show as their job
I would have thought, because abuse dynamics have very little to do with physical power, physical strength or physical size. The stereotype behind your comment is the reason male victims of female perpetrated feel unable to speak up.
The BBC must make sure that all their Professional dancers are sufficiently qualified to teach their celebrity partners and also be ready to take measures when a professional dancer becomes ( as it always happens) a "celebrity" himself/herself.
I’m sorry What!! these women wanted to go on the show they carried on in the show regardless, if they felt uncomfortable or whatever they should have complained or left at the time. Please note also that neither of these women could dance especially Zara . I can imagine the guys being very frustrated with them to be fair as they both seem entitled.
Zara has made a career on playing the victim.!! and don't forget...she went on camera on Made in Chelsea for cheating with her boyfriend - What a Girl...!!? What are the chances No dudes are ever going to want to dance with her...?! They don't need the drama...!?
I have never liked Gratziano, there was always something false about him. Amanda Abington needs to have women start to rally round her for having the spine to call it out.
The old expression used springs to mind”if you can’t stand the heat get out of the kitchen”or is it all about the money and potential fame taking presidence over their capability 🤷🏼♀️
Are you saying this about Zara or about Graziano? There is video evidence of Graziano hitting, kicking and spitting at Zara during rehearsals - this isn't something anyone should experience anywhere, especially while at work.
@@mercianmaiden The video has been reviewed by the BBC as part of their investigation, I don’t believe it has been posted publicly. A company wouldn’t publicly post video evidence of workplace misconduct for legal reasons anyway. Whenever we see documentary evidence like that it is from a third party. It’s also better this way for the wellbeing of everyone involved. Besides all of this, Graziano has actually admitted to misconduct
Strictly it's time to move on!! Soon you won't have no professional dancers left. Those dancers bithe male and female did not get to where they are in their profession by being softly, softly. It's a competition and to do Strictly from what I have seen, you have to be disciplined and focused. You can't take the heat, don't step into the kitchen. I'm not abuse is good. IT'S NOT! You enter that particular competition, it's obvious you may clash. So close it's stressful for the Pro's and reluctant guests.
There is video evidence of Graziano hitting, kicking and spitting at Zara. This is not 'disciplined and focused' behaviour. No one is asking for the professionals to go 'softly softly', they are asking for them to act professionally. Strictly may be a competition but it is also a place of work. The BBC is completely right to fire a member of staff for abusing a colleague.
that doesn;t excuse abuse. the rouble is abuse not that these women cannot dance. if they're hard to teach then you have to accept it as a teacher, you do NOT bully people. the amount of victim blaming in this thread shows why abuse continues to happen. shame on you.
2:53 - great points bbc definitely needs to look at its whistleblowing policies and society needs to look at why we feel able to victim shame without a 2nd thought.
Don’t enjoy Dermot’s comments in this piece. Being the best you could be shouldn’t mean physical abuse takes place and certainly not that it before accepted!
This is a absolutely joke shame he has done nothing wrong and bad at all the tv show was and is a joke from the start and now it’s more than a joke it’s shameful and so on
There are so many people complaining about awful things happening to them on this show that I think it should be cancelled let’s hope the BBC are in control

If I was a professional dancer on strictly, I would tell the BBC to get lost …. People wonder why it’s hard to get a simple cup of coffee served right…. To find a goods tradesmen that’s good at there job .. it’s because you have to treat everyone with kitten gloves nowadays…. Everything is abuse if you dare say anything or dare to even raise your voice teaching someone something…. And don’t think for one second I’m saying abuse is right because it’s not….. BUT thisdef is not abuse what we are on about here….

The problem here is that Strictly like to bring back the same professional dancers every year. The amount of change in the professionals is very limited most years. If the BBC decided to have flexibility in professionals involved, this could help, bring in fresh talent, who will treat the show differently.
The thing with this is thst of course it's a TV show so contestants expect some fun. Some pros have different training techniques, they are competitive people. Of course lets not be making people cry or abusing people. However, some training can seem harsh and unfair. We dont know the full story and obviously if they feel they were treated unfairly then of course speak about it.
You can’t learn to dance the way that they do without putting in the work and feeling under pressure. It’s hard graft that’s what makes the dancers so capable.
@@katiemp670I can’t find the video anywhere, where is it? I have no idea what’s actually happened, it’s hard to follow these interviews & discussions when they aren’t actually mentioning what’s happened
Why can't they use British professional dancers? Instead of employing non British? The Italians are known for their strict derogatory ways of teaching.
This is nothing to do with domestic abuse. This is a television show Zara was getting paid and could bring it.up or quit at any time. Argentine Tango God knows how many times.a partner.gets step on. by accident is that abuse I also dont.believe in the spitting at her.
Don't think it's to do with him stepping on her foot accidentally when doing a dance 😮😂 Well she said theirs footage so if has proof 🤷 🤔 jist because he seems friendly and nice doesn't mean is We don't known him or what happened

Come on people why do you pander to this nonsense. If something is wrong call it out. Why have you list the ability to do the right thing. You don't need anyone else's permission. It this show is showing this behaviour then get rid of it. It's just not worth it.

It's very hard to describe why you continue in a situation where you're being abused. It's really complicated, there's usually a power imbalance and you're often made to feel like maybe you're misunderstanding the situation. Often gaslighting is involved so you doubt your own perception of abuse. Unless you've experienced it, it is hard to understand.
why did she stay and carry on then if it was so bad she got paid to be taught to dance what did she expect why entre a competition then moan because you are pushed to do well feel sorry for these two men hope it does not impact on their careers maybe her manager should stick to giving her work here she can be pampered to
