What I love about Unohanas Bankai is the way it symbolises her perfectly, she's known as Yachiru (8000 flows) because of her swordsmanship mastery and her Bankai literally and technically makes her sword skills a fluid as possible. Her Banaki is like the perfect representation of her which makes sense as only her and Yama have spent as much time with theirs and become so in tune. Even the fact her shikai and bankai are both pronounced the same but with different meanings ties in with her duality as Unohana Retsu the healer and Unohana Yachiru the killer, same person different sides. I've always thought zanpakuto represent the 'three faces' Japanese proverb about identity where the sealed state is the face we present to the world the Shikai is the face we show close ones and the Banaki is our true face no-one else sees. When the two are both so different from each other either w'ere not in tune with our inner and outer selves or we've got something to hide. Soifon for example her Bankai is so different because despite how hard she works hard to be a a cool calm assassin/leader underneath she's hotheaded immature at times and rash. Byakuya and Yama's are more of a powered up version of their Shikai because of their disciplined nature and hold very certain views on how they see the world and Ichicgo too because he's an open book, straight foreword and true to himself. But Unohana is such a perfect example. Love it.

The rules of the Kenpachi are: - there can only be one - must be strong af - you must kill the previous title holder Zaraki is the 11th Kenpachi but if we follow these rules, he’s technically the 2nd “true” Kenpachi, nurtured by the first Kenpachi, Unohana. She never died and technically meant that shes been the “true” Kenpachi all this time.

Facts about Minazuki's Kanji from a Japanese Bleach fan. Her Shikai is "肉雫唼". "肉" means meat, "雫" means drop, and "唼" means to sip. Her Bankai is "皆尽". "皆" means everyone, and "尽" means to run out or die. And both of these are read as "Minazuki". Names have an important meaning in Bleach, so it is interesting to look up the kanji of other zanpakuto swords. (Deepl translation)

I have so many series, movies, shorts 99.999 female character of character that are projected as worrier type disappointing but YACHIRU UNOHANA is on whole other level. Finally as a og bleach fan we finally got an understanding of what Unohana's bankai actually does and finally my favorite mini arc in all of bleach gets animated next episode

Zangetsu mentioned the Asauchi when he trained Ichigo on the Soul Society arc. He does mention they are nameless. The fact that Ichigo didn't have one is crucial. The first katana he had was not his, it was literally Rukia's (same hilt and embroidery) but oversized due to his poor control over his reiatsu.

Unohana was actually nurturing Zaraki and like a mother helped him to become stronger and in the process, passing the title of Kenpachi in a proper manner.

I love how Unohana’s Bankai has always been an ambiguous and debated topic and even in the anime Kubo was like “You thought you were gonna find out? Lol too bad for you 😂”. I honestly like it better that way.

To maybe clear things up Unohana's shikai and bankai are the same name being Minazuki but depending on how you write it out it means 2 different things. So her shikai means flesh drops gorge and her bankai means All Things End

my only problem is that they're not utilising bleachs almost perfect fight sound tracks, we got a glimpse of it in ep 7 when that banger was playing during ichigo vs yhwach but some intense metal music would truly bring a great scene with bloodshed and death

The reason why Unohana thought of Ichigo, Byakuya and Renji is she wasn't thinking about who might beat Zaraki; they might not be equal to him in terms of raw power, but they are still his comrades who would not turn down a good spar. She talks about how there is more to life even after achieving your full (fighting) potential, even if for Zaraki it might seem like the end right now. He has foes he can fight, he has friends who'd watch his back and who would not be afraid to cross their blades with him, he has his pink-haired Yachiru. "Life goes on!" is what her whole little monologue is all about, core themes and all that.

Kenpachi Kiganjō was the 10th Kenpachi. A century ago, he was the captain of the 11th Division and the predecessor of Kenpachi Zaraki. He's the one Zaraki fought in the end without his uniform. Just sharing

You’re one of the best reactors Neel. I love how you understand these characters and actually respect the desicions they make and try to see things from their point of view. Too many people want the story to play out a certain way rather than accept how the author writes the story they want to.

When I watched this fight, I remember what ichigo said to urahara after beating aizen. He said that when he's fighting an opponent of almost equal strength to him, he's able to understand and feel their emotions when they cross blades. That's how he knew aizen was lonely. But the same applies to this fight as well. When zaraki was finally able to fight on equal grounds with unohana, they could finally understand each other. That's why when kenpachi said that he finally understands that the feeling he has is the ecstacy of battle and asks if she knew that feeling, she responds to him without speaking a word. At this point, zaraki full understands the feelings that unohana has for him. This fight was just epicly written. Tite kubo is totally awesome for this!

The red blade she gives to him as she's dying is her finally giving him the title of Kenpachi. Passing on the blood red demon sword is how I like to see it.

Byakuya will get an insane power boost, his shikai alone will be on the power of his pre-stolen bankai. Renji will get the boost too, thats why Unohana referred them as equal term ally. If you remember Byakuya's fight with Tsukishima, he said, that was the first life and death battle, that he really enjoyed. He understand it now, why Zaraki loves to fight. As for Unohana, her death was foreshadowed by Yamamoto and Kirinji. Yamamoto gave the order to her, that anything happens, she not permitted to leave the 4th company barracks. He knew Unohana very well, she needed to train Zaraki, if the things are going worse. After we saw the original Gotei reveal/flashback, Kirinji said, that Unohanas healing is not required, they need her "other" power. That two thing was alone enough for her death flag.

I don't know if anyone else noticed or not but if you pay attention to zarakis sword throughout the fight it becomes less and less chipped until he impales unohana and tosses it away... It looks like a regular sword and not some weapon that looks like its about to break

If you think about it, Unohana’s bankai is basically like the blood hot springs. It heals you up, but if you stay too long, you begin to melt. Byakuya can keep up with Kenpachi. Besides having a very powerful Zanpakuto, he's very skilled at Kido. Renji also has a lot of potential and trains a lot (remember he wasn't thrown away by Tenjiro's punch, and was the first one to recover besides Ichigo). Not to mention Zaraki was always interested on fighting Byakuya. And, someday, you'll see someone else being added to that list. But it'll take a loooooooooong time. P.S.: The one in the flashback was Kiganjo Kenpachi, the previous one Zaraki has killed in order to become Captain.

Kempachi limited himself to enjoying the fight after the first fight with Unohana and he did that all his life. That's why Unohana killed him and healed him so that he would understand that it was not necessary to limit himself. Now that it is in its original state, it will be able to break its limits.

People have this misconception that Unohana’s bankai melts anything that it touches, which isn’t the case. The melting scene only happens with a white background which is meant to symbolize that the melting is all metaphorical and only happens in Zaraki’s head. And in the same scene, we see the same blood from Unonaha’s bankai on Zaraki’s face yet that side of his face didn’t melt, on top of the multiple other times her bankai touched Zaraki. Not to mention if the melting scene did happen, then she was strong enough to heal herself and Zaraki after being melted to literal skeletons, yet she couldn’t she heal Chojiro and Byakuya, it wouldn’t make sense. What her bankai actually does is allows her to use blood to attack, pretty much using blood as an extension of her blade, as well as acting as a wide passive heal.

This ep makes it apparent why Aizen DID NOT attack Unohana when he made his initial reveal that he faked his death. She would have been allowed to act in self-defense and likely would have SLAUGHTERED him. Then again, his bankai was never revealed, so it's not a given.

Idk if this was on purpose but I noticed at the beginning of the episode there's a scene where Unohana is walking side ways after Zaraki says that he black out again and then after she actives Bankai after he gets knocked against the floor and gets back up he starts moving the same way and she looks like she noticed something is different and he lands a hit. And since shes basically saying that her sword is now for sole purpose of nuturing him, if that subtle change of movement from Zaraki was on purpose I applaud the animators because alot of this fight is anime only. But it could just be me reading too much into it.

She's not saying that they would be able to fight him, she's saying that he has friends. And they still can spar, you know?

[Tidbits & Clarifications][These are less so for Neel more so for commentors who may be confused] - Many people argue "Why not keep both Alive" which makes logical sense, but therein lies the problem, Kenpachi's don't live by logic. The 11th division has constantly shown the viewers that they prioritize their own satisfaction over logic, Kenpachi quickly joined Ichigo's side cause he wanted to have a good fight, Ikkaku let the pillar be destroyed because he wants to stay under Zaraki, Yumichika was going to die and let the pillar be destroyed cause he wanted to be under Zaraki...this division ALWAYS put their desires 1st. They don't care about what others want, Unohana made this division and she's the same, her purpose is passing the baton and enjoying the thrill of battle. - During Unohana's bankai when you see them stripped down to flesh and bone, it's not just creative imagery, (while never fully explained) it seems, given her words and the visuals that her Bankai has acidic and healing properties...so those flesh and bone scenes are real. (If im wrong someone lmn) - Oetsu says that Ichigo never had an "Asauchi" which as we just learned is the basis of a real Zanpaktou, this means Ichigo throughout the entire series has never had an actual Zanpaktou. - An amazing concept that's all over the entire Bleach series is that the Zanpaktou is an extension of the soul, this can be used to track how developed a Shinigami is. You cannot obtain Shikai or Bankai without understanding your soul. People tend to forget that Ichigo while prodigal, is still a kid, who still carries trauma. That's why it's easy to see why he'd fail at training in this compacity.

The reason Unohana said Byakuya, Renji, and Ichigo were comrades who could keep up with Kenpachi, is because they are being trained in the royal palace. The 3 of them are going beyond normal soul reapers. Rukia is as well, but she doesn't really have the same rivalry/love for battle as the others.
