He stayed for them, and thats kind of heartbreaking on its own. Like he really loved them, enough to put his wants and needs as an artist aside. You really can't say anything negative about him, for that sole reason.
Dude c’mon- to make it seem like he was some sort of selfless martyr is ridiculous. He stayed with the band because it was in his benefit Financially to stay for as long as possible.
today i watched the one direction this is us movie and....wow there was so much there that i didnt see....i mean Zayn was barely in there...zayn was always left alone and i didnt see him having the fun with the boys...i mean i think other boys were extroverted outgoing personality and zayn was introverted and so polite and shy...they just didnt mesh up together and i do think harry and zayn werent close because sometimes friend groups are like that you get along as a group but if you leave two individuals together they just dont get along......i think louis and liam and niall were the good friends and harry and xayn were kinda the outsiders.......and dont even get me statrted on the management...these bys were 16 when they were picked up and went around the world for 2 freaking years without seeing their family....i cant imagine what zayn would have felt like knowing he felt like he didnt belong there.....i felt sad when in the movie he never got out of bed and slept and wanted tp be left alone because i think it was telltale signs of early depression...and you can see how they micromanaged everything from the way boys dressed,sang,danced etc...also i dont know why zayn smoking weed was such a big deal...zayn is muslim and he doesnt drinks alcohol like everyone else...the only other way to get kicks os to smoke weed...
@@nandaschneider53 He does love the boys, he has anxiety and depression which is most likely why he hasn't contacted them or he's like me, I have friends but I'm not good at communicating so I don't really contact them. I have some friends that I haven't spoke to over a year now but I text them every now and then. He's probably just bad at communicating like me.

This man deserves better, he really enjoys spending time with Harry, Niall, Liam and Louis, but he didn't enjoyed being in One Direction. In my opinion, a musical reunion is truly unnessecary for them, all i want is them to be friends and support each other

What hurts me the most is the fact that he stayed for the boys... you could see when they were doing the promo for the FOUR album, Zayn already looked like he wasn't himself... very different from the early days when he would be loud and make jokes all the time. He never hated the boys, he hated being in the band. He loves the boys so much and he even said it himself. There management was just too hard for him. Being in the band has affected his mental health and caused him eating disorders. Of course he hated the stress of it. None of his ideas also matched in the " 1D songs criteria" so he had to put his ego aside for YEARS and stayed in the band for the boys. He could've left earlier If he wanted to, he could finally express his own style of music that always got rejected by management. But he didn't. And the thing that hurts most on top of all of that is the fact that he hid his pain so well, the guys didn't even realize he hated being in the band that much. I quote Harry " I guess we didn't realize he hated being in the band that much." He's been through so much yet he's still so strong and he does not deserve the hate. People keep saying he isn't grateful to be apart of 1D but he really is. Infact, he has a special wall in his house... dedicated to all his 1D memories.

U can’t just leave cuz there’s a contract unless someone has to pay for it, when everyone finishes the contract someone was paying for that until this year....so, to that someone....I’m proud of U also hoping this time U will fly high .....

Its not about him leaving or not, I personally dont blame him for leaving, because he is also a human and feels things, what I am not okay with is him saying " that wasn't music" or " me and harry were never really close" its not about leaving or having a solo career its about respecting where you come from. I am very happy and proud of how far he has come but, that does not mean some of the words he said are okay or should be justified.
time has passed and I already understand why he left and I could say that they're all better doing things on their own rather than in a group. I don't expect them to be back and do a song together because not everyone liked what they were doing as artists. Zayn in my opinion is the strongest member for being the first one to leave and step out of the band and I'm really proud of what he did. We all should learn from what he's done honestly. I just hope that there aren't any bad blood any more between the boys.
It was ludicrous that they played like 100 shows every year, released an album, had probably 200 interviews, meet and greets and that was constant too much for young people. Such a capitalist corporate machine.

It's 2020 and I still feel like so many people dont understand what he means by not wanting to be in the band. He isnt saying that he isnt grateful for all the opportunities they got or that he disliked every part of it. He's simply trying to explain that this wasnt the music he wanted to make. That he felt trapped because he couldnt be the artist he wanted to be and therefore couldnt stay true to himself. Not to mention his anxiety disorder. He auditioned for the xfactor because he wanted to be a singer, he never could have imagined ending up in the biggest boyband of literally all time or getting recognised and mobbed constantly.
It breaks my heart. I used to blame him for leaving, but NOW, as i get older i understand what he'd gone through. But i really hope someday he will fix things with the boys and be friends again. They used to be brothers and now they are like strangers. my heart aches tbh.
calicocat their management was very forceful the boy’s couldn’t be who they wanted to be Zayn and Louis had eating disorders nails knee had problems and he wasn’t allowed to get surgery they also whitewashed Zayn because his skin was darker than the other boys they womanized Harry Liam had a drinking problem and Zayn also felt like he wasn’t giving any messages in the music they were making and felt like it wasn’t him

i don’t think this is just sadness, this is definitely anxiety. i can relate. anxiety made being in the band miserable and then when he left he’s probably anxious that he made a mistake. this what a defining moment. i’m so proud of his progress.
it always showed, honestly. from the beginning, you could tell zayn was the odd-one-out. we never really saw him as himself. he was quiet, sort of the “mysterious” one. he definitely opened up a little more once the band became as worldwide as it did, but this interview really just confirmed it all. compare the music one direction makes, to what zayn makes now. they aren’t similar at all. plus, speaking of comparing, compare this interview to the ones while he was in one direction. he’s so much more open, so raw with what he’s saying. i know there were 4 other boys he needed to share the interviews with, but when he got his turns to speak, it was always very vague. he wasn’t getting a say so in one direction at all- the other boys were putting up with it, but he obviously couldn’t. now, i love one direction with my whole heart. that’s why i’m here. but leaving the band was one of the best decisions he’s ever made- he is making music for himself. i will forever be proud of the little boy from bradford, for making the decision that is best for him. we also have to keep in mind that leaving wasn’t easy for him either! he was only 17 when one direction formed on the x-factor. he grew up with those boys. it wrenches my heart that he had to go a separate way, but i’m so happy the boys respected it. but- will i fight for that one direction reunion with all of those 5 boys who own my heart? yes, yes i will.

Zayn's pain in this video makes me want to tear up. If they do come back, they should come back with the best management team. They needed more freedom. The management they had was terrible. It makes me feel heartbroken. Just think about it. "They deserve the world, but the world doesn't deserve them."
I remember watching the interview the day of came out. The boys obviously really bonded in a great way. One Direction’s bond is very much real. Zayn’s musical taste wasn’t one direction’s musical taste. Zayn no longer wanted to be apart of that musical taste. Plus, it felt like One Direction didn’t have any rest because of constant touring/promotions. Honestly, I’m glad that they bonded. No matter what, the iconic 5 will forever be iconic! :)
In my opinion he never left because of the boys. I think the boys were never the reason. I think it's just what he said, he didn't like how and what kind of music they made so he just made the decision to go. We all know and could see that they were good friends at some point. I know that people will say it could have all been for show but if so then the other members wouldn't have cared he left would they? I don't know what his relationship is with the boys but I hope, differences and past problems aside, they can all be friends and colleagues in their respective jobs. Maybe they'll collaborate or something in the future. Or at least friends because honestly those five years together shouldn't have been just in vain, Zayn shouldn't just leave them out of his life entirely since they were there for so long with him.

Aimee Whelan what's wrong with that? I agree he should have handled the departure better. He should have say the boys down and let them know and then played out the tour. Who knows, maybe his depression was getting really bad. I don't think anyone should begrudge him leaving but he should have gone about it better. I just wish the other boys would get over it now and stop shutting him out. They were still successful as a band and they didn't suffer too much

when I first saw this interview, I was flabbergasted, but then I saw they were sitting on like chairs, and I had a throwback moment of the video diaries. with the boy and kevin, and 99/100 things the boys do are never coincidences, and then I was found dead. smh

Zayn has one of the best souls ever and it saddens me how much hate he gets. He is so kind and gentle. I love him so much and I hope he knows that he has a very loyal and loving fan base.
When he’s said he didn’t want to be in the band, he didn’t mean the boys...he loved those boys with all his heart, but the music the rules and the restrictions that comes with being in a boy and never appealed to him. He loves spending time with the boys, and I personally believe the only reason he said he never talked to Harry etc was because he needed to get rid of his boy band image. Cut off ties and the only way he knew how to do that was to anger the directioners and break their hearts all at once. Also because boy bands have certain images to uphold and a certain audience to cater to, he realized that his music the type he loved and wanted to share would never be accepted. And he was just tired. He never wanted to hurt the boys, but and I’m not trying to sound high and mighty or something, but I understand him. This was something he needed to do because he was slipping further into not his depression. Yes he is depressed. A depressed person never admits that they are depressed. But his eating order and attitude in general proved it. He realized his anxiety depression and eating order would become worse, and even though it broke his heart he realized this is what he had to do. And eventually did. Do even though she me directioners still have a grudge with him, be happy he is still giving you some type of music. Because ,and I study psychology , him being in the band much longer would have led to eventual suicide.
Well said! He had to do this for himself which probably wasn’t easy because he had no idea how everyone would react or what his future would look like from then on. This ended up being one of the best decisions for him at least in my eyes. even though it seemed sad at the time, he was struggling and he needed to do something before it got even worse.
Boom ds Harry was one of the ones that was really hurt by him leaving. The reason he stay in the band so long is because of his love for those boys. It always bothered me how people blamed him but never thought about how he felt emotionally and physically about everything from being in a band and then leaving. Harry just doesn’t like to talk about not because he still hates Zayn but because none of them ever talked about it together as a band. Simon included. If they all can get together one day and talk about everything from what Zayn was feeling through those years to how the boys felt after he left. Then, we could possibly start seeing them hangout together again.
He loved those boys , but he doesn't like when he's in the band , he's prefered to became solo artist . Trust me , he's happy with those boys and he loved them so much .

He's talking about type of music that one direction sang... he's saying that he was always an R&B type of guy and wasn't satisfied by the type of music he was creating..
he just means he didn't want to necessarily be part of a group, he wanted to do his own thing. that doesn't mean he didn't enjoy it, he just wasn't enjoying it in the same way he would enjoy doing his own thing.
