This is the China version, the EU version has door handles, a normal charging port, no fridge, fixed center console, screen position is fixed, etc. There are many more differences.
I want an icemaker so I can keep my cold drink cold, and a cup heater of some kind to keep my coffee hot. I don't think I need a fridge. (Theoretically a multifunctional heat pump could do any of those things)
The luxury small car market is VERY underserved, especially when it comes to electric cars - Honda, Toyota i'm looking at you! Nice work Zeekr:) MORE!!
That's a joke right? Nearly all first models of every brand are luxury cars. Tesla, Jaguar, Porche, BMW, Mercedes. These are just the ones form the top of my mind. What we need is cheaper entry point models with large batteries.
Don't like gloss black plastic on the interior of a car, definitely don't want it on the outside. Around the wheel arches where every bit of crap thrown up by the tyre's is going to scratch it. Other than that it could be fun with the more powerful version.
Zeekr is working at establishing themselves and their style. Maybe more is more right now but as they make more cars, they'll not think they need to put in so much content. Overall, quality looks good and at least it's not a boring color inside and out.
Depends on the geopolitical situation of various export markets. The BYD Seal for instance, starts at 50,000 AUD in Australia, the equivalent of just $33k USD, while in Europe, it starts at 43k Euro, or the equivalent of nearly $46k USD. So why does the same car cost 13k USD more in Germany versus Australia? Well for one thing Australia no longer has a domestic carmaking industry to protect, so Chinese carmakers will price their cars very competitively, but various European countries do have domestic carmaking industries to protect, so a company like BYD would actually price their cars higher so as to not appear to be trying to grab too much marketshare too quickly, lest the European carmakers go crying to their governments about the need for more protectionist measures against the Chinese.
Very pleased to find in their website that both the X and the 001 have towbars, so it looks like this EV is exceptional in that you could actually get standard accessories to carry your bicycles. Many other so-called SUVs must have been rushed out to market as the manufacturers' websites have no information about bike carriers.
I hope the door buttons, including the rear hatch, have high quality insulation to tolerate rainwater, over a long period of time. It always comes down to the little things.
I am sorry but can someone tell why isn't Volvo putting so much effort in the interior of the latest offering from them? I mean this looks like a lot more thought went into the interior compared with the EX 30 for example. The current VW alternative feels and looks like a public bus when you see what zeekr are doing apparently at the moment.
Volvo put in a ton of effort in their interior. There is so much in terms of sustainable materials, textures, streamlining it to put the buttons and such in the center to add space to it. The Volvo is very Scandinavian in design. This oddly is designed in Sweden, but doesn't have that Scandinavian look/feel into it at all.
That's an option so only if you spec the electric opening doors do they remove the "handles", without that you have pop-in door handles. How do they work in "scandinavian winter" I have no idea, I assume this is like any other door handles and they might get covered in ice. I've not spent that kind of winter with it to know ...
The designers must have been on serious mushrooms. The opening of the charger is so nuts. Mainly because it goes down and thus does not protect it in rain... And the CCS port is turned by 90 degrees. Lots of fun with some of the stiff thick cables 😂😂😂😂😂
Feature rich is a good thing. I, as far as I can remember, don't like to spend a lot of money on a bigger can than I actually want to drive to get more/better features. Oh.. and I see symmetrical wheels, which is a huge plus nowadays!!
I agree. With virtually all EVs you have to compromise on size or quality. I’m still looking for an ideal replacement for my BMW i3. I don’t need a family Crossover/SUV but I want the premium interior quality and spec of a class of car one or two classes above.
Would to see Elliot cover other electric transition/sustainability topics across Asia. Just read that Japan is putting us (UK) to shame in terms of recycling (and so is Germany apparently).
The original Zeekr was actually extremely popular in China, often winning out vs BYD, Xpeng, etc. Hoping to see them expand overseas and give BYD and MG some competition.
Don’t buy from Chinese owned companies like Volvo, Polestar, MG, BYD and so on. China is a dictatorship with no human rights or democracy. Giving them our money will backfire. Just like EU learned from doing business with Putin.
Between EX30, Aceman and Zeekr X, which one is the one if consider fun to drive, speakers, space, considerate on day to day use and so on, Aceman is front wheel drive is that mean less go kart experience compare to Volvo and it has no frunk even is build on EV platform, EX30 glass roof don't have cover like the MINI but it has my favourite yellow color OEM-ly, Zeekr has functional interior like the flip up rear chairs and moveable center screen!
Just a suggestion. Can you film the inside of the storage? The angle for the frunk is missing aswell as the middle seat storage. Also there is no shot of the seats folded down. I know it is minor but would have loved those. Thanks for the otherwise detailed review.
@@Piccsqueak You can go watch Wheelsboy channel's review of the Zeekr X from about 6 months ago, which shows more features. Regarding the passenger seat zero grav recline function, it can do so because the back seat bottom folds UPWARDS. This feature is limited to the 4 seat version of the car, where both rear seat bottoms can fold up, to create a wide cargo area of sorts in front of the rear seat where you can put a long object, or also good for pets. Very innovative design, and unique in the car world I believe. Similar to what you see in many crew cab pickups, where the rear seat bottom can also be folded up for more storage.
I bet the Euro version won't ship with half those gadgets and will cost 2-3x the price in China. I think there are some aggressively bad ideas in this (no door handles) although the car looks nice over all.
Correct, i think the Euro version is the 5 seats version and does not have the sliding screen, no "magic" back seats folding, no fridge (optional), no sliding central armrest, no zzero G font passwneger seat
Glad to see more premium small/medium sized cars. We don’t want a big SUV. This seems to have projected HUD on the windscreen, which is a nice improvement over the Volvo EX30. But the range is still not good enough. VW ID.3 Pro-S is 550km WLTP. Don’t want to go below that. But I want AWD in our next car and VW doesn’t offer that.
Tesla Model 3 is lacking HUD too and it it doesn’t have 360 degree camera system. Front camera is missing and no too-down view. It’s a deal breaker for my wife. Also lack of physical parking sensors (AI vision is not great) and big turning circle are making parking experience even worse. Otherwise it would be a nice car.
My 2005 ford focus had a fridge. Didn’t lend any sense of class like it would in a Range Rover. People will be keeping their Fanta cool in this zeekr not their bottle of Bollinger.
What is up with the separate light units. Why can't they integrate the DRLs in the same unit as the main headlights.... We all ask for cheaper EV's. Than all the fancy interior lighting does not help, imo.
This car can be retrofitted with a pet seat, where the rear seat cushion can be electrically raised so your pet has a dedicated seat. I don't know why it's not in the video
that charge port could be a nightmare when the wheel arch gets splattered in debris… seems like a car for places with very nice roads, not real-world use
They are both different sizes though, this one is longer than the EX30 and has more back seat room. Also it has a HUID (standard) and an instrument cluster screen for those that may be annoyed at the Volvo central screen only.
Worth noting that ZEEKR are reported to have been earmarked for CATL's new CM (Condensed Matter) battery, going into production q4 2023. Barring production problems, with that battery, does this mean that the X will get a significantly lighter? b significantly more range c significantly cheaper d 1, 2 or all 3 of the above? I rather like the X, it is, at least, something that is different from all those other grey boxes. Obviously, price is going to be a major factor as it is for every new name coming onto the market. I would be very interested if the price can come in at close to the MG4, not at all interested if the price looks more like that of the Volvo EX30. I can understand the EX30 being priced where it is, but a new brand can't rely on novelty to sell, as has been found by BYD. I've got no beaf with BYD, but their cars appear to be no better than Mrs, but are priced about 10% higher. That makes no sense at all. MG is a well established brand in Europe (I know it's not British, but the MG badge has helped market penetration) while BYD is only a name familiar to very few.And the advantage that MG has goes further; they have an established, extensive dealer network (many of them with good names) and a longer guarantee. BYD seems to be having problems establishing any positives at all atm. Geely/Volvo does have the advantage of their association with the "Premium" Volvo name and network, but with the EX30 being "Good enough" and the Smart #1 being similar, I can only hope that the ZEEKR will fit in under these brands. Unfortunately, I doubt it based on the pricing strategy of pretty much every Chinese company (with the obvious exception of MG). We'll just have to wait and see.
Too expensive again! But I like the idea of a luxury small hatch. As my kids are moving out I don’t need a large car but I do want a comfortable cabin which you only usually get in an expensive SUV type.
@@floxshuilee1760 I’d agree if they sold it in the UK for that but a BYD Atto 3 is 139800, £15,457 but is £35,000 plus in the uk. That’s more than a double in price. £40000 for a city, no matter how luxurious is daft.
Wow but not sure what to think to be honest. The buttons to get into the car not my favourite but it has a frunk something BYD needs to add to the Atto 3 and Dolphin. How big is it, roughly the size of the Dolphin? That drinks fridge is a great idea though and available to both front and rear passengers.
I likey. Much better than the Tesco Value MG4. Personalised cars like these are brilliant. Much better than the dull cars we’ve had to put up with from the old school dull manufacturers.
You know, when the door get frozen. It is the internal mechanism get frozen. You can yank the door handle off. But end up found out it is the latch was not unlocked
@@DavidKnowles0 Probably, but the button exists for a reason. If it's really cold, you might not want to take your gloves off to use your phone, or it may be under layers of clothing.
Why on earth are we seeing B-roll while Elliot is explaining something and saying things like 'This is...'? jeez And why were we not actually shown the seat going flat? Hardly mentioned the driving experience..
It's a way of blending Chinese and Swedish engineering. It's Swedish design and partially engineered for the Chinese market first. Volvo and Polestar are different. They're Swedish engineered, mostly, and designed, but more for the Euro and International market first. Other brands fit into whatever other market segments there are in China and Asia, primarily.
Spent more time telling saying "Go go gadget" and telling us how many features and gadgets are packed into the car - then showed us two. A fridge and a motorised screen...is that it?
They even sell an accessory bag that fits the frunk. There is a tire repair kit in the frunk as well, under a piece of foam that acts as a "false floor". I don't really see the point of a frunk TBH, the trunk is big enough, and there is plenty of storage space under the trunk floor as well to "hide" stuff.
Take it with a pinch of salt range is no different when it comes to describing Chinese or WLTP measurements. Both are out by about a third in the summer, half in winter. On that measurement alone this car won't suit long distance driving which is what a car of this size should excel at.
CLTC is even worse than WLTP - more like the infamous old NEDC, which suggested you about 20% longer ranges even than WLTP. E.g. Ioniq classic (28 kWh): 280 km NEDC, about 230 km WLTP (18% less) and 200 km (124 miles) EPA (29% less than NEDC, 13% less than WLTP). Oh wow, just searched and it's even worse: I've found a page on licarco, which shows a screenshot of chinese figures for an unnamed car with 509 km CLTC, 484 km NEDC and 398 km WLTP - no EPA figures mentioned. That would give the oldest Ioniq about 294 km of CLTC range, meaning EPA range would be 32% - or almost one third! - less than CLTC range
@@OenkePoenkeactually, NEDC with 80% margin is good for most EV in summer. 70 in winter. It is interesting that my model 3 can only do 80%EPA range with OEM tire in fall(AC off) , 50% EPA range with winter tire in 0 degree with ac heating, while my friends model 3 in China can do 80% NEDC range, 100% EPA in fall with ac off.
It's not a version. It's a car built on the same platform but it is a different brand's car. It'll have the same general performance but the driving environment and road feel and such will differ from brand to brand. Same platform doesn't mean cars feel and drive the same.
Why did you do this video in this way? Too much fuss about how it looks and fancy features. (without price and other specifications?) I think you got this upside down, FIRST please provide specifications - what type of drive, power, battery size, range? THEN the comfort, tech features, build quality and THEN the comparative value or target market. For me fancy stuff doesn’t count until after I know the context.
I can get a really nice three seater settee and two sofas for 3,500 Dollars....Just where do these cars get their high prices from...a reducing non asset as well it seems to be!? Mass production should reduce prices ? Not the other way round!?
