I believe "Distagon" with Zeiss means retrofocal designs used for SLR's at focal lengths below the register distance(so normally around 40-45mm). Thats going to tend to mean larger lenses than Ziess rangefinder lenses but it does also tend to mean closer focusing and smooth of of focus/bokeh. Its less of an issue with modern designs I believe since even non SLR lenses tend to need to have those kinds of design to avoid light hitting the sensor at too steep and angles causing things like colour shift.

Thanks for this video. I learned a lot. I've used the CP.3 lenses on a project (combined with their 21-100mm zoom), and they are really nice. I would love to own a set.

Incredible knowledge and very generous for sharing your knowledge with us. I just wanted to ask if there was an opportunity to re-upload without the music or just if there if you can be doing one of these again just to ease off on the music as I’m so keen to hear what you are saying the music is Taking up too much bandwidth in my mind whilst listening to you speak which is much more important for me to hear. I just wondered if you would be able to do it without the music next time yours humbly and grateful

I would be interested to hear your thoughts on how some of the old Canon FD lenses fit in, e.g. the 24mm f1.4 L, the 50mm f1.2 L and the 85mm f1.2 L.

Great video. Does Nikon make the Arri Signature Primes? Arri says they went with someone who’s never made Cine lenses. Also, the new Signature Primes have a look similar to my Nikkor Z lenses for my Z9.

Hi, how about quality? Those planar zf and zf 2 are made in Japan by Cosina. Is the same optical quality as original zeiss optics or is the same level of quality as voigtlander?
