i like that you didn't make them sound DIFFERENT per se--like, you kept the iconic sound effects and tone of certain instruments that already sounded good in the original, but added layers and higher quality instrumentation. imo this is what a soundtrack "remaster" should be. amazing job
@@JoeFilms5420It paid off really well! I like an intense orchestral remake every once in a while, but this captures the vibes of the game so perfectly, yet feels fresh. This feels like what Nintendo would do if they legitimately remade the whole thing ground up. I also like the order that you let everything play in. Tells the story and blends together nicely.
I'm just going to put my favorites on here in no particular order so that I can find them later. Astral Observatory - 36:48 Milk Bar- 18:19 Song of Healing- 48:22 Deku Palace - 1:09:36 Termina Field - 50:45 Ben Drowned - 2:39:54 😭 - 3:09:28
Played this back in December 2000 when my life was a much simpler time. Always brings me back to my teenage years shipping Link with all the ladies he saved in his adventures.
This. This is *everything* I could ever ask for in a Majora's Mask remake soundtrack. Every track perfectly captures the feel of the original while adding that modern-gaming orchestral sound. Plus, there are additions. I love how each boss/healed area has a personalized variation. I love the BEN reference. I loved Molduga. I loved Fierce Deity, and all the other original tracks. It really does feel like the soundtrack to a fleshed out remake of Majora with added content, and I love it. Never thought anything would top Theophany's Time's End albums for me, but here we are. This is my new favorite Majora's Mask album, easily! Speaking of Theophany, loved the use of Healing Termina in the Ikana segment (if I'm not mistaken, gonna have to listen again).
Healing Termina was definitely an inspiration, but being honest the most inspiration came from Rescue Operation from Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. Thank you so much for the kind words, I'm really glad you enjoyed it so much!
I’m a classically trained musician and avid Zelda fan, and I have to say, the orchestration/arranging choices in this are so wise. Elevated yet still super authentic. Bravo!
Dude I just realized, in masked menace, is the same bassline. I now just realized, twilight princess took it from mm for the darknut fight. I wonder what else I might learn about it
Dude this is so amazing! MM is the one game where I've never really liked remasters or rearrangements of the OST b/c they never quite feel right. But this absolutely feels like the MM soundtrack! You have captured the heart of what makes the MM soundtrack so good! Ahh I can't wait to sit down and play the game w/ this soundtrack!!
Thank you so much, that means the world to me! This game’s soundtrack definitely had a unique vibe to it, it’s pretty heavily inspired by Chinese opera which is not something you see super often, so I wanted to pay very close attention to getting everything right.
@@JoeFilms5420 dang, I'd never have guessed Chinese Opera as an influence. Maybe that's why most other people don't quite hit the mark on their interpretations while you did. That's impressive yo
Termina Field was amazing. I love that you included some of a Link to the Past's Overworld (if I'm not mistaken)? Thanks for making this. It's helping me study for finals!
The image of Great Bay 2:14:29 is kind of funny because horses rarely sit like that and when they do, they usually have underlying issues like being in pain or exhaustion. Poor Epona lol. I've never a horse sit like that before. Nice artwork tho.
@@freutty Yeah initially it was gonna just be a picture of Great Bay without any characters, and Ethan asked if I wanted him to draw Link in the scene. And I was like “ooh, draw Link and Epona sitting there on the beach!” In my mind I guess I was just thinking of Link sitting on Epona’s back, but then when we thought of the idea of Epona sitting like a dog it was way too funny to pass up. I’m glad you appreciate it too!
@@JoeFilms5420 thats funny! I honestly couldn't tell if it was intentional like that or what lol. I had to take a double-take first like is Epona sitting like a dog? It got me researching a bit since I've never seen that before.
Good catch! But honestly I didn't really see anything to change with it. That and the "solving a puzzle" jingle would have just been the same as the original, so I didn't include them.
@@JoeFilms5420 Huh, I thought it did change, unless that's just the standard 3D version of the notification then I apologize. I'm so used to the N64 version that I thought it was a change you made 😂
Majoras Mask is one of those pieces of liminal art from an unrestricted yet limited time period that can't be replicated. Something about that brief period in the 90s where media was rapidly evolving allowed for some unintentionally horrific yet beautiful pieces of work that most likely will never be captured again. Something about how lifeless the structures and character models are with the 90s era technological restrictions and the now outdated music allowed Majoras Mask to age into a beautiful yet unintentionally terrifying work of art.
Dude "Aliens" or "They" is absolutely incredibly done wow it really sells, no, it just is the feeling of an unavoidable dreaded alien attack that is beyond you in every way. Very sick. The track felt very full if that makes sense, super well done
I legitimately had zero ideas for what to even do going into that track and I sat there for like an hour until I looked at my bass synth and said “I’VE GOT IT”
Time to go on an epic adventure. As I lay into my bed I rest my head and increase the volume on my eye mask. The darkness envelop and I develop a sense of peace and nostalgia. I’m 12 again on a mattress on the floor. A tiny tv and my old n64 controller the cord tapped together. I was happy.
this the most comprehensive yet well done OST remake I've come across yet. The passion in the project is evident, for sure. Thank you for sharing and posting your Bandcamp!
From start to finish man.. what an absolute pleasure this was to listen too. Pure ear candy man, very well done! You took this old soul on quite a journey with this arrangement. Earned my sub for sure 😌
Final hours is my favorite "sad" song to listen to. It gives such a good feeling that it truly is the end. Kind of like that one scene in Loki when they're on the planet Lamentis that's about to get hit by an asteroid. And as they Grace to get on the ship that is going to escape the planet, a rock falls from the sky and hits it. I asked a Swiftie in my class what the context of this song was, and she said, "at the end of the world" without having played Majora's Mask. Your remix ups it to a new level. Nice job.
Your Ikana section is absolutely fantastic; well-made original compositions in addition to such a brilliant reworking of the classic songs I've always adored. Though I have yet to listen to all of this project, I have no doubt that the rest of it is unequivocally amazing. Great work man, as well as to the other contributors!
this is the one game I am willing to say i am a fanboy of. and I think fanboying is really cringe. thank you for this. calling of the Four Giants is my favorite next to Astral Observatory
The way the music is able to perfectly capture the sense of whimsy mixed with an underlying sense of unease right from the beginning never ceases to amaze me ❤
I’ve been trying to rewrite Majora’s Mask into a show as a personal passion project, and listening to this is great for getting inspiration. Thank you!
Magnificent! You have fully, masterfully realized the original vision of the composers while remaining absolutely faithful to the original soundtrack. Really takes me back, my friend. You have my undying gratitude for offering us a true labor of reverie and wonder.
My goodness... Hearing astral observatory like this, one of my favourites from the game that I never remember how much I like until I hear it again... Thank you!
I'm gonna be honest, this is a project I wanted to do years ago but never found the time or the software to do it. Thank you so much for bringing a dream of mind to light, every song here is a beautiful rendition of the original tracks!
Thank you all, you did an amazing job, I loved listening to the album and I surely will again ! Majora's mask is one if not my favorite game so it's even more cool ! Listening till the end maked me feel like I had finished the game once more, and all the tracks were so cool ! Like the introduction of milk bar, or the addition to mikau's song ! There is so much more even if don't think of it now, it was really great :D thank you again, all of you, for not letting this game be forgotten !
Alright, I'm only a quarter of the way through this, but already this is insane. Incredibly well done to all involved, this really hits the more somber part of Majoras Mask right on the head, excellent job on keeping the tone intact. Alot of other remix/remasters lose this, but you did not, amazing job... so far! Can't wait to hear the rest. EDITS: Holy shit adding the overworld melody from Links Awakening to Termina Field sounded AWESOME George theme slaps hard, and "They" is extremely spooky, love it. Why the hell is Molduga in here? I'll take it, but alright!
@@JoeFilms5420 No doubt! I heard nothing but good things about it. I love the darker tone to the game. My favorites (even though this entire soundtrack so far is absolutely brilliantly done) are the darker unsettling music in this like Majora and 3rd Day so far. And pffft. I have played and beat Ocarina of Time at least 50 times. I am on my 2nd randomizer and played Master Quest for the first time.
I am so very impressed with this. You have fully realized the soundtrack. The game itself was very atmosphere heavy so keeping in spirit of that with this pays a true respect!
Absolutely Incredible, no doubt about it. Majora's Mask is my favorite game of all time, and this right here is downright one of, if not, the best "remastered" soundtracks I've heard. Huge kudos dude!
This is incredible and I will comment every time I listen listen to it, even if it’s only to pick one song that I got to hear in the moment kind of vibes!
This is all just perfect.. the climax of Astral Observatory makes my heart skip a beat every time. Thank you so much for letting us have this, I will forever cherish it
Watching you go through this project and bringing all these artists together while making it is amazing. Can't believe how well its going, you deserve it all and I'm very proud.
Its crazy listening to this and hearing all these songs I've heard so many times before but never played zelda before. Truly iconic music and a very well done soundtrack by Mr.Films @@paccp663
That was such a fun experience. I loved listening to all the music scores, it took me back to the memories of how fun and exciting it was to play MM. This game is truly a masterpiece. Thank you for making this soundtrack, its beautiful!
AMAZING All the versions of Termina Field are so exceptional, I listen to them over and over without stopping, it's so good!!!! I hope you find a way to include them in the game all together, you should ask for help from a modding community it would make your work even better than it already is. I would dream of seeing that!!!!!
I would just like to take this opportunity to inform you that it is not possible to use the alternative version of the caves. When you exit the cave the game crashes (I use a texture pack + the restoration project)
@@JoeFilms5420 To guide you slightly, I noticed that the game bugs much more often with your mod on the US version but on the EUR version everything works perfectly (including alternate version of the cave)
Great work! Was surprised to hear Zelda 1’s game over theme (I think?) after the MM one on track 29. Your rendition of it is pretty befitting for MM, almost in the same vein as the astral observatory. Nice touch!
This is just... *chef's kiss*. Through and through. Banger after banger. Now to put it on loop and personally account for a solid quarter of the views on this video :)
These are great, they sound enough like the originals to sound like they belong while also adding some extra nuance and variety to give that extra oomph
hands down one of the most impressive fan creations I've seen/heard this year! MM is my favorite video game of all time so you already know i downloaded this album day 0 💯 after binge listening to the whole album, wow, just wow- the arrangements, the mixing, the instrument samples, it's all top notch and truley captures the unique sound of MM. Too many orchestral covers fail to portray the essence of the original soundtrack, and your arrangements deserve the title of the best version of MM's soundtrack. Some of favorites are termina field, clock town third day, masked jungle warrior, call us, battle, astral observatory, tatl and tael, and song of healing. The way you seamlessly integrated the arrangement of the zelda main theme from Link's Awakening into Terminal Field's theme was genius 🤯 hats off to you good sir, and cheers for the mod release!
I've been wanting to hear a combination of Termina Field and the Link's Awakening field for ages, so I was really happy with how it came out. I'm glad you appreciated it too!
Everything here is so hauntingly and achingly beautiful. So well done. Tears were shed listening to some of this. I played MM for the first time during the height of the pandemic and it somehow gave it extra gravity. I now have the best reason ever to replay it.
I have played this on MM3D and i gotta say you did an amazing job on this. That said, there is one thing I did notice go awry, specifically in the final battle: The Majora's Mask theme and Majora's Wrath theme were switched around.
Man I been practically listening to this on repeat. All these tracks are just so damn good! The boss theme and field theme variations are all so wicked. The transition of closed to open Milk Bar was amazing! And that Fierce Deity track!!! Bro it's so damn awesome!! You absolutely killed it w/ this soundtrack!
I’m so glad you liked the Fierce Deity theme! I’ve always thought it would be cool if a remake of Majora’s Mask had unique music that would play when you put on the Fierce Deity’s mask in a bossfight, and since he’s such a powerful warrior I thought it was only appropriate to give him the full Dark Souls-esque operatic orchestra treatment!
@@JoeFilms5420Yo I'm not crazy am I? You used Majora's theme at the start of the FD track right? The notes are just more slowed down so it's not immediately noticeable. You just end up w/ that feeling of intimidation lol
I especially enjoyed the Mayor's Meeting track. So much behind the strings that I always heard in my head but never in my ears in the original soundtrack. That's honestly what I would say for most of these tracks. Fantastic! I am aware that you're working on an Ocarina of Time version, or will be, so I do have a bit of a criticism (I am very particular about Zelda music). Sometimes in the soundtrack there seems to be a lack of centricity in the melody, or singing quality. I particularly felt this with the Clock Town Day 1 track, as it seemed that the oboe was a bit in the background and less melodic than the original instrument, which to me sounds more like a violin. Overall, I would just say to use less reverb for some of the tracks, and less attack on something like the opening notes of the title, which felt a little bit weak. In game, I think the less reverb you have (or at least the echoey kind), the better. The original ocarina sound, I think, should remain as the primary instrument, loved that! Also, as I'm listening to windmill hut, I do notice that the background loop is an octave below the original, so I think with OoT it would be better to remain true to the original octaves. Other than that, you are the first person I have ever heard (myself included) to make a genuinely good version of the house theme!!! It's incredible! Sorry for the rant, and thank you! Will be listening for the next three hours.
i absolutely love that every boss has it's own theme in this one, it helps give each one of them an identity of their own, amazing work overall, can't wait to see someone playing mm3d with this installed
The Secret Grotto didn't have to hit that hard. In-game it makes me anxious, but this cover made it feel so mistical. Congratulations for such amazing project! :)
Thank you so much! I made that theme specifically for the gossip stone grotto just outside (and to the right) of Clock Town’s north gate, I think the atmosphere in that place is so beautiful. It’s heavily inspired by Souls of Mist from Demon’s Souls, so I’d suggest you check that out too if you want more music like this! Thank you so much for your kind words!
Have just finished to listen the full album, congrats to all people involved into that project, this is 2 hours of happiness for all vgm lovers. I love especially the song of healing many variations, everything majora and everything oath to order. Fun fact for Oath to Order 1:25:50-1:26:13 the giants voices are sounding like a sheep with some great reverb and effects. I like a lot that take, creative from the usually 'horn sound like' we can find at 3:11:30 in The Giants Leave which also sounds beautiful
This is so good. This motivates me into playing MM3D with your soundtrack and Nerrel's texture pack for the ultimate experience! Really hoping the decompilation will allow you to implement all the fancy mods you have planned.
