the role of link and the fierce deity are the same, that might be true. and them beeing counterparts would fit too, but beeing counterparts doesn't mean that the fierce deity is a shining hero in green cloths like link. He could be Antihero like which would fit the world they are in. The world of majoras mask is way darker and more evil than Hyrule so having a not 100% good guy as the hero would fit.

The Fierce Deity gets his power from the memories of the people. Link gets his power from the power of the Triforce of Courage. The Fierce Deity, being a god gets his power from those underneath, and Link, being a mortal gets his power from those above.

Referring the Fierce Diety's mask description, darkness doesn't always mean evil. It just means you use the dark to fight. Doesn't necessarily mean you're evil.

Now I'm wanting a spin-off game where the player is Termina's version of Link.

The Triforce makes a small appearance in Ternina. Some of the banners in Clock Town have pictures of the Triforce and the Fierce Deity has a triangle on his armour.

I've always felt the Fierce Diety was the original hero who defeated Demise for Hylia, and all the Links are his descendants (even though not every Link is related) or reincarnations. He could likely have been a revered entity like Din, Farore, and Nauru and hid the theorized missing middle piece of the Triforce.

if zelda is the mortal reincarnation of the goddess hylia. and ganendorf is the mortal reincarnation of the deamon king (which probably a stand in for Satan or evil god considering he almost beat the goddess hylia forcing her to reincarnated in the first place) i feel as though one member of the threesome is missing in the godly form. perhapse the firce god is links godly form?

I think it means a power considered extreme, but necessary, with the people of Termina putting their trust in him to save them, but they also kind of fear his power. The Fierce Deity is kind of like Termina's Nuke.

In regards to why the Fierce Deity's Mask (FDM) is called bad: Let's consider some phrasing: "You got the Fierce Deity's Mask! Could this mask's dark powers be as bad as Majora? Tremendous power is emanating from within..." When we get a message like this it is either a necessary game forwarding device such as "Press B to put an item away" or it is a summary of what Link is experiencing/thinking. Take for example some of the commentary of when you steal an item in Links Awaking: "Guess what? You got it for free, are you proud of yourself?" Who is saying that? I think it is the games way of making you Link and how it trys to align you with his consciousness and his moral conscience. So, to rephrase the earlier quote: "I got the Fierce Dieties's Mask! Wow. I can sense some tremendous dark power emanating from this mask. Could it be on the same level of evil as Majora?" Meaning that it is Link himself making that determination and pondering it. So, within Termina we know how mask are prevalent and have been a large part of the culture, ex: everything from the Couple's Mask to the Keaton Mask. The Happy Mask Salesman is originally from Termina and first came to Hyrule to spread the love of Mask. Why does he have so many mask, including evil ones, and the knowledge of the song of healing which more than once creates mask with its power? Because he is of the ancient tribe that first created Majora's Mask, including the moon children, who desire mask and also posses a mask of "dark power", the FDM. Where am I going with this? Link is the manifestation of the Hero of Hyrule who's purpose is to fight evil. He has within himself a moral conscience that is biased on what is right and best for Hyrule. So, if Link encountered something that does not align with the morals that lie at the foundation of his being, he would likely perceive that as bad. I'm saying that Link's Goddess guided, moral spider-senses are what is causing him to consider, "Could this mask's dark powers be as bad as Majora?" Why would the FDM be considered bad by Link's spider-senses? To that, I reference the Stone Tower of Babel theory where we see evidence of Termina's knowledge of the Goddesses. The people of Termina do not worship the Triforce, and if we take the proposed theory surrounding the Stone Tower, then we see that not only have they not worshiped the Goddesses, but have actively defied them at some point in the distant past and incurred their wrath causing what happened to the Stone Tower to take place and how only the Light Arrows (a holy item of the Goddess) can undo what was wrought. Anything considered wrath-worthy by the Goddesses will likely translate into something that is woven into the fabric of the discernment of their chosen hero. It triggers that response because the FDM is a relic of the same people who created Majora's Mask and defied the Goddesses. A possibility of its creation could be: a previous leader of the ancient tribe, who's power's were so great they were considered godly, performed a ritual to gather the power of all the people in Termina and is sacrificed in the course of the ritual. The Song of Healing was then performed on the corpse and thus the FDM was created as per the leader's desires in sacrificing himself. (or maybe he is "Fierce" because he didn't want to be sacrificed?) tl;dr - The Goddesses don't like the people who created the FDM, and thus, Link's spider-senses go off when he first encounters it due to his tie to the Goddesses.

There is another possibility for Link's counterpart in Termina. He looks nothing like Link, but the goron who visits Clock Town always has the same name as Link no matter what you name him.

I personally like to think that the Fierce Deity was a demon lord, possibly even the son of demise who fell in love with Hylia and decided to reincarnate along with her to protect her always and the mask was just the Giants giving Link the power of his original form to take on Majora.

The Fierce Deity is the Terminian version of Link, much like Ravio is Link's counterpart from Lorule. Speaking of Ravio, he IS a Hero, regardless who believes what! After all, if not for His bracelet, how could Link merge into the walls and use the Light Bow, (Which can ONLY be used while merged with the wall,) to destroy Yuga & save both Lorule and Hyrule??

Nou ja. There are no "Terminan counterparts". Terminal is a world that exists parallel to Hyrule, not a mirror image. Characters with the same model are entirely different people, different names and different personalities. There's a remark in the game when you meet the Indigo-go manager that he resembles the Zora King, not that they look the same (to excuse the reused models from OoT). Terminal and Hyrule are not mirror images or alternative versions of the same people. Therefore, FD Isn't a counterpart to balance out Link's existence.

I personally think that the Fierce Deity is what Link would've been had he been evil - he would've strained for power like Ganon, and would've sought to be worshipped. Time went on, he was defeated/shown the errors of his ways, and his/her spirit sealed without the mask once healed. It's dangerous because of the power and its inherent temptation; once it was sealed, its spirit broke in half. One half was sealed within the mask (the dark), one half was to be born throughout time (explaining why Link keeps coming back) to stop evil. Fierce Deity doesn't look like Link, Link looks like Fierce Deity.

OOOOOAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!! Maybe... Does anyone remember how in Skyward Sword, Zelda talks about the cloth that the Goddess (Hylia) bestowed her chosen hero. I have two theory's from this moment. 1. Is Link the reincarnation of that hero, bound to the Goddess, serving her and protecting her. 2. Is the Fierce Deity the consciousness of said hero, bestowed with he power of every living soul's memories? And does that mean that the Fierce Deity is actually from Hyrule, but The Happy Mask Salesman, when he came to Termina, had the Fierce Deity mask been stolen by Majora? There is a long running theory that Majora was created by the Sheikah, where, they are never seen in Majora. So... Now I want to see a Hero of Hylia game.

My theory is that Termina is actually the beginning of the twilight realm and the powers of the mask may be described as "bad" because it represents a god of the people who tried to use their dark evil magic to gain the triforce. Link wearing the mask obtained all the power of the mask but retained his good. Notice how on his chest plate he has two symbols "moon" and "triangle" the triangle, I feel, represents the triforce

the biggest problem with this is that FD is a god and link isn't.... except link kind of is. Zelda is the reincarnation/host of a goddess. Ganon is the reincarnation/host of a god/devil. Link is the goddess in questions "chosen hero" who has the spirit of the hero. And because all of the links have been links we know the spirit of the hero isn't something that a bunch of people posses and the current zelda just picks one. So Link is a reincarnation/host of the spirit of the hero, which would put him in line as at least a minor god.

my opinion on why fierce deity link can defeat the bosses so quickly is because link's triforce of courage, and the fierce deity's power combined into one power. so something.

I find it fun that you almost "sing" the script you most likely wrote, you definitely sound a lot better at the end segment where it's yourself speaking not through a script but naturally.

The problem with this theory is that the exact same argument used to explain a lack of Terminian counterpart to Zelda or Ganondorf would also prevent the need of a Terminian counterpart to Link. If the giants are the counterpart to the Triforce and as a result Hylia, and in turn Zelda, didn't need a Terminian counterpart, as the giants didn't need protection, then Link, Hylia's chosen hero, would not need a Terminian counterpart. No goddess Hylia, no hero of the goddess. However, the idea of there being alternate counterparts to each character could work and still have a solution. Remember the story of Hylia vs Demise. Hylia herself fought and was too weak to defeat Demise completely, simply sealing him and requiring a plan to bring about a hero that would completely defeat Demise. Now look at the story of Majora and the Fierce Deity according to a manga side-story. Simply put, Majora was put to rest by the Fierce Deity. These stories parallel in as much a way as most Terminian vs Hylian things do (I mean, we're assuming the Triforce's counterpart is the giants, I'm pretty sure sealing someone at the end of a fight connects to putting someone into a long sleep at least as well). On top of that, Ganondorf, the incarnation of Demise's hatred, is constantly trying to obtain the Triforce. Now, unlike the Triforce, I highly doubt it's possible to gather the giants to make an all powerful wish, and they definitely don't grant power to a chosen person before being brought together. However, Majora's mask sealed them so they couldn't interrupt his plans. So to put it all together, I believe that Majora is meant to be Demise's counterpart, Majora's mask is Ganondorf's. And the Fierce Deity is Hylia's, while the Fierce Deity mask is essentially Zelda To explain the last few details: To protect everyone, the Fierce Deity put Majora to sleep. Upon doing so, Majora became a mask because logic. Fearing that one day Majora may return, the Fierce Deity turned himself into a mask so that he too could easily return to stop Majora again But that's just my theory and how I see it. It fits better to have Majora and the mask be the Terminian counterparts to Demise and Ganondorf, with the Fierce Deity and its mask being the Terminian counterparts to Hylia and Zelda. There's other theories for the Terminian counterpart for Link, but I don't buy in to any and don't have any of my own

In Hyrule, Zelda is the goddess Hylia incarnate. Maybe in Termina, the roles are switched, with Link being the god, or deity in this case, incarnate.

This may be a theory, but it is easily popped just with Shigeru Miyamoto saying in an interview that Termina is just "A little ways away from Hyrule." So no, it isn't an alternate dimension, or a separate universe, nor is it in his imagination... according to them Termina just has a different culture set than Hyrule-- and realistically, what they are saying is just like going from France into Spain... They may have similar atmospheres and people, but the cultures are very different. Now everyone is allowed to make their own fanon of course, but it doesn't mean it is necessarily true. I used to think the Fierce Deity's Mask was made of all of Link's anger and frustration... since the name literally spells it out for you... Fierce meaning Anger, Aggressiveness, fighting spirit.... and Deity I assume must intend that maybe Link was once a God himself... as since Zelda is a reincarnation of Hylia, and Ganondorf is the reincarnation of the demon god Demise... So perhaps the Fierce Deity's Mask is one that shows Link's true form as a god-- and not an incarnation. But since the developers have said that it is based on the memories of the people of Termina... this seemed to hammer it in as canon. You may talk of Incarnations not having descendants because of Ganondorf, but Zelda is revealed to have had a child in the Wind Waker, and Link has had a child in Twilight Princess. Take from the devs what you can. but their main missions are to sell you their products, and if they tell you what everything is before you get it, then it won't sell hardly at all since everyone will know what's happened before having to play the game for 40 hours. So really all we know is what is in the games already made-- but since Majora's mask is already made and sold as much as they are gonna get, I can safely say that this isn't an alternate dimension or separate/parallel universe-- or his imagination or some purgatory. However they never released too much about his mask in the games or during the interviews except that one line-- however Fierce Deity's Mask is appearing again in Breath of the Wild and the Majora's mask appeared again in A Link Between Worlds, which to me tells me they aren't done with those ideas yet-- but wanted to show you what was coming soon.

It sounds like the mask is the culmination of all the people's memories given power to Link. It's a kind of "I will be empowered by the hope of the people I fight for!" Similar to the ending of Earthbound and how you defeat Gigyas. That would fit with the director's quote and with the situation of how you get the mask (giving up all the masks you've gathered and "combining" them into the Fierce Deity mask). This is Link's ultimate form, strengthened by the people he has helped and the friends he has made. At least, I think that's the best explanation I know of so far.

not sure if you've come across this theory before but i've always had the theory that the fierce deity mask is more like a "release" module of sorts. As in it lets you access the power of the triforce of courage(or possible the master sword) but transmits and converts it through the mask to be used in a magic compatible with termina.

I always thought of Fierce Deity as Link's divine form. However, based on the idea that the mask has everyone in Termina's memories in it... wouldn't that mean it's just a combination of all the masks the people of Termina gave Link and their gratitude for him? You do have to give up all of those masks before you even get Fierce Deity's mask. As for the dark powers portion it most likely is because Majora made it for Link. Given that Majora really hates the people of Termina and now Link for undoing all the damage caused, this would be a way Majora could hurt everything all at once. Majora most likely did not take into account how powerful this would be.

Miyamoto himself stated in an interview that Termina is not an alternate or parallel univers. He even said that Termina is not even far away from Hyrule. The Parallel Universe thing was just an excuse in the early days because they reused nearly every single asset from Ocarina of Time, wich they did because after OOT the Deadline for MM was set to only a single year wich is not a lot of time today and was even less time back then to make a game.

I used to think that the fierce deity mask was something created as a result of the memories and suffering of the people who passed each time Termina was destroyed. Collectively creating a construct or manifestation that would get their revenge, but there would be no explanation as to how the mask ended up in that time specifically the result of the collected memories etc. I also used to think that there was a possibility that Major was collecting the memories of those who passed in each time line in order to create the mask for some purpose.

I think the one thing no one really realizes yet, is that if there is no need for Zelda or Ganon to have a counterpart in termina, than there would be no reason for link. There is no triforce in termina, therefore their isn't a need for link. I think the fierce deity could be the maker of the world, in some way... I've thought it through for some time.. but i haven't made a full connect yet. But that's just my two cents. Take it with what you wish.

there is a Triforce piece symbol on the Fierce Deity's chest. i think that that somehow means that ONLY the hero of time can control the Fierce Deity. the other symbol on his chest is a cresent moon, which i think means that Majora has tried crashing Termina's moon into the world before & was stopped by the Fierce Deity sacrificing itself for the people of Termina

Kinda thinking we need another Zelda game based in termina now. Could be the origins of the diety and majora. Would make for a sick game, being the first one were link would receive a different power up from the triforce and master sword. Getting godly powers and the helix sword would be sick as all hell

The thing I would like to bring up here is the Majora's Mask manga. While not canonical, it does shed a bit of extra light on the Fierce Deity should you choose to acknowledge it. Near the end when Link finally confronts Majora atop the Clock Tower, Anju and Kafei are there as well. Majora makes Link an offer to play together and gives him the Fierce Deity's Mask, to which Anju and Kafei both warn him to not put it on as they seem to know more about it. Link, having had it with Majora's complete disregard for life ignores the warnings and puts on the mask anyways, and after his transformation Anju remarks with horror that he had turned into "a ferocious god". Shortly after while in the moon it's shown how different his personality is with the mask on. The masks he had collected from the Giants arrive and want to play, too, calling him big brother, and they are immediately cut down without pause or consideration. Once Majora appears the Fierce Deity once again shows how savage and powerful he is by not only ignoring what few attacks Majora has a chance to make, but also cutting it down with single blows. Enraged, Majora takes the final form of Majora's Wrath and says something interesting. "Humans always... thought highly of me... and played willingly with me!" While other things within the game state that Majora's Mask was a thing of darkness and evil, the fact that even Majora considers the Fierce Deity to be a bad guy perhaps hints that the Fierce Deity was the worse of two evils.

I like to imagine that the Hero of Time messed up with the Ocarina of Time and travel back hundreds of years ago, when the Sheikah were in the middle of the war of the Interloper against the Royal Family. The leader of the sheikah was of course someone named Majora and he, as an adult, had to fight against Majora (once a friend, therefore the "bad guy" thing) dressed up as a sheikah, with the white hair and all the stuff. The Fierce Deity. Perhaps he even died there after the fight, badly injured, and became a stalfos. Who knows. By the way, #BringBackTheHeroOfTime

Through this logic the answer would be pretty straightforward. As Link's counterpart and main hero of Termina, Fierce Deity would hold power equal to the full triforce, not only Courage. Regarding the dark power within the mask, it's plausible that Majora and Fierce Deity sealed each other in the forms of masks, thus the corrupted magic in Fierce Deity's mask. Majora, through its magic, was still able to control itself as the villain of the game, but both masks are sealed forms of those deities

Ganondorf was gonna be in MM but got taken our, his 3d model is in the game files as either fisherman 1 or 2 and he was gonna be seen fishing instead of trying to take hyrule

the fierce deity is a combo of all three. it is gannondorf, zelda and link in one being. the mask itself has gannondorf's dark power, link's spirit of a hero, and since zelda is a reincarnation of the goddess, the being itself has divine status and power. the spirit in the mask also has power similar to the triforce and once link puts the mask on, his aspects come to light as his spirit dominates the embodiment.

Hopefully we get to see him again soon. Maybe nintendo was hinting at this by giving him a cameo in BoTW and even Smash Ult

How many separate universes are there in Zelda? There's Termina, Lorule, the dark world, and the twilight realm. Oh and the 3 timelines. As far as we know, there is very little outside Hyrule on the planet (including Hytopia from Triforce Heros and whatever world the Oracle games take place in).

The Mask's powers are dark probably because they're fueled by the negative emotions (Anger, despair, sadness) of everyone in Termina. If this theory is true then that does make a lot of sense, since the Fierce Deity would be able to become very powerful at the time he's needed the most, when a Termina-wide crisis is happening and everyone is feeling its effects.

Well it wouldn’t make sense for Termina to be an alternate universe at all. Don’t forget that in the beginning of the game Link gets a flashback of him and Zelda before he parts with her after saving Hyrule, which leads him to Clock Town. That would mean it would have to be the same world, only the two lands are a ways away from each other probably.

Link's hat is usually an addition to his transformed mask forms. Is this the case with the Fierce Deity, as well, I wonder? What does he look like if you reduce Link'ish elements? It’s actually pretty simple who the fierce deity is, he’s part of a separate trinity along with demise and hylia. In the beginning the three golden goddesses created the sacred realm and the foundations of other realms, they then funneled all of their power into the triforce and took on mortal forms becoming the oracles. But not before leaving demise, hylia, and the fierce deity to guard the triforce. Now these new three had the power of creation as well, and from their home in the sacred realm they created three parallel worlds. Hylia created Hyrule, demise created lorule, and the fierce deity created termina. But this spent almost all of their power, but what minute power they had remaining was still titanic compared to the mortals they had created.

In the manga, the fierce dirty is a random explorer who runs into majora on a walk, he kills majora with his magic drum and carved the mask, nothing is known about what happened after that

Maybe the C on FD's armor could be a moon and a combination of the hero of time adds the triangle. So maybe he is the hero of termina

It could be that the mask is how the combined consciousness of Termina sees Link. To the people of Termina, Link is a mysterious boy who helps all with seemingly no limit to what he can accomplish. To the people of Termina, he is someone powerful enough to purify lands, calm seas, change the seasons. To the people of Termina, Link is almost like a God. It could be that these memories of the people Link has helped give him the powers of a deity and why the mask bares such a striking resemblance to him.

The orginal name of Fierce Deity's is Oni Mask(Demon Mask) so, I believe that FD/Oni is the counterpart of Link, but in termina Link is a villain who terrorize Termina, like Ganon torment Hyrule.
