This is the disturbing Dark Link Cutscene from Twilight Princess. Just to clarify things: This cutscene shows up right after you defeated the "Dark Insect Queen". And it's skippable by accident like many players do. It is in the game.
Sakuri: This is my lil buddy Kirby Kirby lore: Down right terrifying. Splatoon: Your a kid your a squid Splatoon 1-3 lore: Humans don’t exist anymore. Where the villains of dlc and 3rd story wanting to wipe out the new humanity of evolved sea creatures.
The cutscene is kind of weird to understand at first, but I think this is the gist: It's the gods conveying a vision and message to Link that he too is capable of committing acts of great evil, and could succumb to the power and darkness he opposes and possesses (e.g the Fused Shadow pieces). The takeaway from this is that one who is unaware of the power they wield or are capable of will unknowingly abuse or be ruled by it, and Link needs to fully understand this to complete his quest. The gods put Link into a trance, putting him in the shoes of a version of himself who has succumbed to evil and powerful temptations. They use Ilia as the means of demonstrating to Link who he is capable of harming so it hits close to home and drives the point. Near the end, Link is smirking and laughing, having fully been possessed of that possible side of himself, who would enjoy such things. Once he snaps out of this vision and side of himself, he is completely overwhelmed by the weight of this realization, fully understanding the dangers that are present if he is not careful, and potentially coping with a side of himself he had never encountered before. This is a heavy realization, and it obviously takes its toll on Link, with him being out of breath and upset after the vision is over.
@@jadenhernandez5109 that, mixed with "absolute power corrupts absolutely*" *unless you realize it might do that, then I guess you just have to watch out
Courage isn’t the absence of fear, it’s being able to stand up to it, so he’s likely been scared before. Tbh, who wouldn’t be? Like, in Majora’s Mask, the world is literally about to end, and Link is only 10 years old in that game.
the difference is that Majora's mask has more much implied darkness than twilight princess. Twilight princess has, by far, some of the most creepy shit in a nintendo game. Likely why it's rated T while almost every older zelda is rated E/E10
When I first saw it playing the game (a few hours ago XD) I already knew part of it because of youtube, but when I saw Ilia's clones falling I laughted so hard hahahhaa
I remember playing this in elementary school. It was my first Zelda game and I was completely fascinated by how dark it was. For some reason I couldn’t turn away and stop playing it. This was one of the few experiences that I can say completely enthralled me as a kid. Today I am a proud LoZ fan because of this game. Thank you Nintendo.
To be 100% honest, I actually got this game from my cousin because she couldn’t figure out the tutorial part. So I wasn’t at all expecting things to go downhill the way they did in the first act of the game.
I watched this cutscene extremely unnerved and creeped out, and then it ends, spirit says "K go find the dark power thing" and it's back to business as usual. I just sat there with my eyes wide in shock wondering what the heck I just watched and what drugs the developers were on.
Nathan H. Well. People were complaining that legend of Zelda was too childish and kept on bitching. So what they did? They made twilight princess. Gave them what they asked for
To this day, it's still so jarring. To see Link, he who seals the darkness time and time again, nearly succumb to temptation. To see him fantasize about wielding such great and terrible power.
That’s why the Hero of Twilight is my favorite incarnation of Link. Instead of portraying him as a blank slate, he’s given all of these different nuances (e.g. the touching scene where he acts as an older brother/mentor/role model for Collin in the previous cutscene to nearly giving into his lustful temptation in this one).
@@jomet9019How though the master sword can't be used for anything other then good just means it's like Samurai Jacks sword it's the bane of evil itself.
superaleksibros2 a lot of lore too, there’s a theory that the interlopers were the same people who made majoras mask. Kinda fits the description since Twilight Princess is right after Majoras Mask. And in Majoras Mask they say that the people who made Majoras mask were sealed away in Darkness. Another clue is that the eyes on Majoras Mask has Very similar looking eyes as the Fused shadow.
the idea of the interlopers showing up after ocarina of time is scary. like you defeated the highest evil in the land but a hundred years later, these powerful wizards will make a combined powerful artifact that was so powerful that the goddess had to intervene and banish them as they were unleashing that power unto the land of hyrule. that’s nerdy as hell and cool asf at the same time omg
(Before this cutscene) I dunno about this game so far, Majoras Mask still strikes me as a pretty dark Zelda game. (After seeing this cutscene) I'm gonna play Majoras Mask to get my mind off what I just saw.
Lmao! If only I could like a comment twice. That's exactly how I felt. I played Twilight Princess, though I didn't get that far, due to rage quitting at one point. Just seeing this cutscene makes me take back what I said about Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask combined. This scene freaked me tf out. lol
This music and the bit of cutscene with it are in my opinion a symbol of how people, at some point, just want power for themselves. This just gave me this kind of feeling
Majoras Mask was much scarier, considering you are guaranteed to die and fail, in fact the only reason you got a good ending is because Link was asleep, and return back to the normal three days of doom. No happy post game.
LittleJoey Watkins A sequel would be terrific. Imagine a sequel with botw open world yet twilight princess story and some of the dungeons. It would make for the best game yet.
I’ve always loved this vision cutscene, and my favorite part is 1:00-1:15. The image of the paragon hero fully consumed by powerlust, throwing down his weapons after killing his beloved ruthlessly, unhesitatingly and without sadism, just from brutal and sudden pragmatism to eliminate a threat to his ambition. He begins to run, run through an empty black void towards the shining hill so as to stake his claim on the ultimate power, not looking back, still in the trappings of the savior of the world, as a solitary and mournful string solo plays. Alone, blind, driven by greed, and about to be damned by his own out-if-his-control dark reflection. If they ever _really_ shake up the formula and make a game where Link is fallen and either no longer around or even the outright villain, this is how it should be done, and this is the tone and mood that should underscore a corrupted version of him.
I believe the meaning behind this cutscene,is that the power of the triforce could corrupt people, and even turn friends against each other to obtain that power, and someone like Link could fall to that temptation just as easily
And just like anyone else, if Link were to succumb to temptation, the goddesses would bring the same wrath and judgement onto him as they did, the interlopers
2:36 how cool would it be if you could actually play as dark link by choice, letting yourself become corrupt by the dark power to try and save the world, then the final boss is your darkness instead of ganon
At the start I was like "oh this is gonna be like like the cutscene from Ocarina of Time but when Ilia had a knife and white eyes I turned the wii off and didn't play it for 2 years
As heroic as Link is, he is still human. I like to think that the reason why Link doesn't pursue power is because he knows he could be consumed by it, so he chooses to not to. This scene kinda proves it as Link's face in the end shows it. But that's just me
And Twilight Princess takes a shot at one-upping the creepy factor of Majora's Mask... with a damn fine entry. I also appreciate the effectiveness of the lesson the spirit is trying to impart. It really rams home how you're meddling with something that's been sealed away for a reason.
@@scratch2086 "You don't mess with the Goddesses and expect to get away with it... unless you're Demise of course then you can do as you please until an elfboy kicks your butt and seals you away so that you may continue another day".
I just saw this cutscene today for the first time when I was playing this game on the Wii. I had to lower the sound of the TV a bit when Link screamed because I was scared that my parents would come to my room and ask me what kind of game I was playing and that they could prohibit me to play this game by seeing this cutscene because it is not good to play such horror game lmao Anyway Nintendo should make another Zelda game as dark as this one or Majora's Mask, that's just so awesome to play
One of the funniest things I've ever seen on YT was someone on another video commented something like this. "1:41 me and the boys waiting for our pizza rolls in the microwave"
Was I the only one who saw Link’s reaction to the falling Ilias at 2:51 as lust? Like he was tempted by the power of the fused shadows to falsely obtain her love before he snaps out of it.
Me too! It brief but I saw a bit of lust on link, specially since the game hints that link and Illia had a thing with each other before the memory fiasco and him falling for Midna in the end.
I’m in the cut seems pretty obvious on what it’s trying to say, but maybe that’s because I’m a film Director myself. It’s showing two individuals sort of like Adam and eve from the Bible. The Triforce represents power in the cut scene is to show how man we’ll always fight for power and how it can corrupt someone’s mind that’s why you see the girl try to stab link only for him to kill her and then to run for the power. The 3 dark links represent links into darkness, his inner desires, and I’ll giving into them with destroy him
I think Link is sobbing in the end, imagine seeing yourself vanish into nothing, then get possessed by creatures created by pure darkness. What I see is that: He belts on his knees with an empty expression, showing how traumatized he is, breathes in and out, and then starts sobbing. Poor guy, has to save a whole kingdom by himself, must be hard.
Was craving it this week so I went out bought a Wii U and 100% this game within a week. This is the best Zelda by far. Haven’t played it since GameCube
I was looking for the Gamecube version but copped a Wii version for $12 from a claim sale lol. This was my favorite cutscene and my favorite Zelda game so far.
Nintendo is MOSTLY a lighthearted company. Dabbling into their other side only when deemed necessary. Call me a nerd, idc. But this, to me is not about a video game. It’s about the inner struggle in all of us. And it is clear as day. I’m happy I got to play this game when I was younger. Even though this cutscenes mentally scarred me, it’s a good reminder. Always be humble and honest.
SettingItToWumbo Ha, my bad. I only grew up on Mario games and haven’t really been in tune with games for the last bit. Botw2 looks good and dark though!
We all struggle with an inner darkness, but it's up to us what we do with it and how we tackle it. Do we give in to our dark thoughts and more cruel nature? Or do we try to be better as people and always do what we think is right, but still acknowledge that we do have darkness and that we're stronger for not giving into it? I think I like the second option better.
I know what cutscene meant: What it was trying to shows was seeking such great power will ultimately blind you, and in the process, lose (in this scene, kill) the people that you come to know and love.
