ŠIPAD is a large Bosnian company in the field of wood industry, headquartered in Sarajevo.
After the Austro-Hungarian occupation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the German industrialist from Brandenburg, Otto Steinbeis, began the exploitation of forests in the area of Bosnian Krajina in 1892. In 1900, it registered as a new company Bosnian forest industry-joint-stock company - Steinbeis (Bosnische Forstindustrie Aktiengesellschaft - Otto von Steinbeis) with headquarters in Drvar. The company employs about 2,800 workers.
For its needs, the company built a significant network of railways, with a large number of stations, which over time grew into real settlements with several hundred and even thousands of inhabitants: Srnetica, Potoci (Klekovača), Mijačica (Grmeč). The railway went to Knin, Prijedor and Jajce, where there is still a railway station as a national cultural monument. The building of the old railway station in Sanski Most is from the same time and is also a national monument.
After the First World War, within the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, the company operates under the name ŠIPAD (Forestry Industry Privredno Akcionarsko Društvo) and by the end of the 1940s, it has grown into a well-known and renowned company on the domestic and foreign wood markets. The size of the company, its way of working and professional organization, good management, special way of sorting products and the quality of ŠIPAD brand goods were recognized and appreciated. In that period, ŠIPAD exported around 150,000 m2 of sawn timber from Bosnia and Herzegovina.
On March 9, 1948, by decision of the Government of the People's Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the independent company ŠIPAD was established for the export of wood and wood products. The capacities for the production and processing of wood were restored, which played a significant role in the restoration and accelerated development of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the country as a whole, because wood and wood products were used for the construction of the country, while their export paid for the import of necessary equipment for the economy. as a whole.
In the era of self-management, SOUR (Complex Organization of Associated Labor) becomes the largest company for trade in wood products and wood processing, as it accounts for over 80% of forestry and wood processing in SRBiH, and has 25 labor organizations with 239 OOURs and 29 labor organizations. community, and ŠIPAD - BANK, in which a total of 84,500 workers work, both in Bosnia and Herzegovina and in the former Yugoslavia. The company's reputation and its market position in the country and abroad was built thanks to a rich tradition, a wide sales network (about 200 own sales facilities and 170 rented facilities), a permanent relationship with 191 producers in the field of forestry, wood processing and furniture production within the large ŠIPAD family in Bosnia and Herzegovina, through business ties with other industries in the former Yugoslavia and abroad and thanks to its qualified personnel. At one time it was the largest European exporter of furniture to the USA and Australia.
With the end of the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina, in 1999 it was reorganized into a joint-stock company with headquarters in Sarajevo.
