My father, a 94 year-old Korean War vet, always said that once most of the WWII vets had shuffled off this mortal coil, fascism would once again rear its ugly head. Smart guy, my Dad.
Sadly, he was correct. Those who have enjoyed the fruits of his generation's sacrifice talk like the Tubberville guy. But it will be his grandchildren's generation that will shed their blood to regain the freedoms he is throwing away. Just because America has not had enemy soldiers land on the soil does not preclude it from happening. Ask Peral Harbour what happens when a country pretends that the rest of the world does not apply to them.
@@flipw3605 AMERICA HAS AND ALWAYS WILL STAND FOR FREEDOM AND DEMOCRACY. IT IS WHAT WE KNOW AND WHO WE ARE .... WE HAVE BLEED INTO SOIL FOR FREEDOM. AMERICA STANDS WITH UKRAINE AND AGAINST THE TYRANT PUTIN WHO WANTS TO TAKE OVER THE WORLD. AMERICA UNITES BLUE AND STANDS WITH UKRAINE.
When that Veteran realized who Zelenskyy was he immediately broke down in tears. If you need any more reassurance who the good guys are listen to a WW2 Veteran.
I'm Belgian, I'm 3rd generation offspring, of a family heavily involved active resistance, helped air crew to escape, my grandfathers younger brother age 22 was killed in a concentration camp after being captured as armed resistance, his older brother escaped on foot over France, Spain, Portugal, Ireland into the UK to join the SAS, and was involved in operation marked garden and later in battle of the bulge. So yes, I'm from the deepened of my hart thankful of all these Allied liberators, and it hurts my hart to see this young generation of far right extremists rise. And I'm moved to tears seeing that brave veteran, hug Zelensky, as he fully understand as no one else, that Zelensky is now fighting the war agains that same fascist evil as Putin and his regime is. Let us remember all those who granted our freedom, their price was high and still is to the soldiers now fighting Ukraine.
Thank you Danny....heart breaking. Your comment is so moving and truly sad. I am sorry for so many in my country who are ignorant of this great sacrifice and for those who are not ignorant of it, yet who now espouse authoritarian ideologies...I hope for a miracle....
Wow, what an incredible moment, I am so grateful to my grandfather, a Purple Heart and bronze star recipient at Normandy, and all of his bothers and sisters in arms, all hero’s of mine.
@cagneybillingsley2165, actually he appears less senile than Trump. Trump's speeches are becoming more unhinged except when he's whining. He's continuing to lie about everything which is easily refuted.
Bums me out these heros will be gone within a short time. They stood against a possible horrendous world envisioned by some angry evil genocidal power-hungry little Austrian.
That's what two true men look like. I may be all way over here in the USA but Zelensky is inspiring. If only all world leaders were even half the man he is..
Agreed. He has his flaws, certainly, but one HUGE quality: he will not sell his country without a fight. Trump was ready to sell his own country for putin’s pleasure
This veteran kissed Zelensky's hand. Zelensky reacted so genuinely and was really affected by the veteran's gesture. The veteran told him that he prays for him. I pray for Zelensky every night before I sleep. No matter how tired I am, I cannot close my eyes until I have prayed for Zelensky.
@@mile_high_topherActually fairly astute. Seeing new stories and crying is in tune with the type of hormonal imbalances that pregnant women get and causes the to act crazy
I've watched this several times - and like Nicolle, I can't stop crying!! A great modern man - with a great veteran of an earlier generation!! This should be played on every TV channel in America - and what do the GOP have to say to this?? Are they going to call this veteran a loser and a sucker like Trump - the draft dodger?????
My friend just turned 100 and was a Rosie the Riveter who married a soldier. I hope everyone who knows someone who worked for freedom then records their stories in some way, the everyday people .
Is D-Day memorial ceremonies are really important to the continuity between generations and the meaning of being prepared against evil in the world. I’m so thankful at the same group of countries in Europe together and remember clearly what happened and what to prevent.
We need to be working for our freedom now too. More than ever. They are trying to take us back to the 1800's. And trust me, things weren't "great", then.

@user-mv8dm6zs6j let's not forget that Trump refused to pay respects to the fallen while he was in France because it was misty and he didn't want to get his hair wet.
I disagree, Biden and all the EU leaders understand that keeping the Ukrainians armed is keeping their own out of the conflict. This is EUs take 2 to stop the dictator before he steam rolls through.
I'm Irish in Ireland and my great grandfather is buried in Loos war grave in France. He joined the British army and died in a gas attack. We will remember them.
My father was stationed in Ireland. When there would be something on tv about Ireland, a movie or whatever, he would go into rhapsodies about the country and the people. It was about the only thing he’d say about the war.
I love that hug between President Zelensky and the D Day, Veteran, I thank you both for standing for Democracy! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 🇫🇷 🇫🇷 🇫🇷 🇫🇷 🇫🇷 🇫🇷 🇬🇧 Britain 🇬🇧 🇬🇧 🇬🇧 💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙
Hundreds of Ukrainian young including their olympic champions are dying everyday and zelensky is admiring an American soldier for what he did or prevented doing 80 years ago.
Zelensky banned 11 political parties, nationalized the media, lied about the "Ghost of Kiev", and canceled elections indefinitely... what a hero of democracy
@@magaking4552 well yes and no. The Einsatzgruppen was formed in Ukraine after the German occupation. It was a minority of the population. Mainly focused on e;;termination of the jewish, Romani and others they chose not to like. Average Ukrainians were forced in conscription. Mainly eastern front combat if they resided in firmly held areas. I'm sure Zelensky's family, being Jewish were not involved.
Zelenskyy has been an amazing leader for Ukraine. He has persevered under circumstances that would have broken many others. We are still with you. Slava Ukraini!!
Not with the president of a country that leaves is people in battle while he is out at a photo op in france. I wonder If how many ukrainian soldiers he offered to bring with him
@@TA_Plus_Hemi this moment was worth its weight in gold from a propaganda point of view. But you know that Ivan that's why your commenting to denigrate it.
I agree. Every time I see Zelensky, the wear and tear of worry and loss, long and sleepless nights and God knows what else, is showing on his face. While many of his countrymen are giving their lives, he is giving his all in every other sense. My words are awkward but I see him as a great hero. He is giving for everyone else. Putin and trump are the kind that could never imagine such a thing. They only do for personal gain. I believe that Ukraine will be victorious. But win or lose, Zelensky will forever be a great hero and the spotlight will shine on all Ukrainians. If Putin or trump were to win, everyone would know they are not real heroes. And they would demand that all praise be directed on them. But bullies are never real heroes and everyone knows it, except them.
I am so glad that Trump was not on that podium as president of the USA! Don't give him a change to become president again voters of the USA ! Greetings from Europe and all our gratitude for your help and sacrifices during WWII
Long live Ukraine long live democracy long live freedom God bless Ukraine and Zelenzky peace on earth free Ukraine and Ukrainians Slava Ukraini. Ukrine's freedom has not yet perished, nor has her glory, Upon us, fellow Ukrainians, fate shall smile once more. Our enemies will vanish like dew in the sun, And we too shall rule, brothers, in a free land of our own. We'll lay down our souls and bodies to attain our freedom, And we'll show that we, brothers, are of the Cossack nation! Brethren, stand together in a bloody fight, from the Sian to the Don We will not allow others to rule in our native land. The Black Sea will smile and grandfather Dnipro will rejoice, For in our own Ukraine fortune shall flourish again. Our persistence and our sincere toils will be rewarded, And freedom's song will resound throughout all of Ukraine. Echoing off the Carpathians, and rumbling across the steppes, Ukraine's fame and glory will be known among all nations.
A nation divided in WW2. Ukrainians did fight for the red army butt they were part of the German Galicia Division. So how great is that tarnished nation again?
This is all well and good until you realize that the patch of a certain unit of their army sports the SS Wolfsangel flipped 180 degrees and diagonal. Definitely not subtle.
@@Railhog2102 as long as we have someone sensible in office, it doesn't matter whether they are a Democrat or a Republican. This is about actual policies, not a party
They're both right. The veteran rose to the moment in 1944, and Zelenskyy is rising to the moment now. FIGHT FASCISM and stand up for DEMOCRACY! Love to all
@@marvinmartin4692 Maybe we don't have to. Maybe we can just say Forgive them Lord for THEY KNOW NOT WHAT THEY DO! If he gets elected .... They will realize too late. No mulligans. The thing that sucks is WE will suffer too.
Zelenskyy's grandfather fought and volunteered for the Red Army during WWII in the Eastern Front. His grandfather's family was nearly wiped out during the Holocaust.
Never forget: Trump said to General Kelly, *at Kelly's son's military grave, "What was in it for him!?"* Trump saw a wounded veteran, and told others to "Get him out of my sight. No one wants to see someone like him," and Trump has insulted Gold Star families.
@@kelperdude you're exactly right. He would have sat back and watched putin take over Ukraine and slaughter every innocent man, woman and child. Then build a bunch of hotels and golf courses that he would eventually bankrupt.

Scaramucci said that we don't have obvious reminders of fascist aggression to inspire people to keep up the good fight. It's worse than that. We have the opposite. We have people who openly celebrate the "heritage" of our own, homegrown, pro-slavery, Confederate fascists.
Remember, Don the Con wouldn't go to a ceremony in France for our troops because it was raining and he didn't want to mess up his hair, and thought those that died defending democracy were "suckers".
A real American Veteran who fight WWII to save America from Fascism! Now MAGA wants America to become a Fascist country! This is why this veteran admires Mr. Zelenskyy ! They both brave men who loves their countries to death! Literally!
Look up the video of Nicole casually floating the idea of using drone strikes against Trump supporters. "Nicole Wallace suggests using drone strikes against Americans". There. Just copy and paste what I quoted.
How do you people salute the veterans when you are okay with people like b l m and what not burning American flags? Now i've heard of a back handed salute
What a powerful interaction between two different representatives of generation’s. One that fought 80 years ago and one fighting now against tyranny and Fascism. As the daughter of a WWII Veteran I applaud and am so Very proud of The GREATEST GENERATION and what they did, what they Sacrificed, for not only our country but for Europe and beyond. Too many Americans either don’t know or have forgotten the Sacrifices the citizens of our country made to help ensure the hard fought Victory across the World. I’m grateful to my parents and all Americans who were living through that time for the sacrifices they made to ensure the Freedom we enjoy today. Here’s to The Greatest Generation…
