Another absolutely imperative must know tip: If anyone ever sends a text, e-mail, phone message or phone call that says something is wrong with your account and gives a website, link or number to call NEVER EVER DO IT! Instead, go to the back of your credit card and call that number, or call the bank directly. That way you know who you've called and are talking to. If the initial contact was legit, then no harm done, but if it wasn't (most likely) then you've avoided losing your money. ALWAYS ALWAYS initiate contact with the bank separately and you should be OK.

#1 - Don't Panic #2 - Hang up #3 - Call your bank, using the telephone number from your bank statement #4 - Report

Exactly! That is what I did to make sure it was legit and turns out it was my bank calling regarding suspicious charges. Best to be safe than sorry.
@jdl9623
@jdl9623 Год назад
#1 & #2? You'll never need to panic and hang up if you never answered the phone in the first place. If it is real and the message is important, they WILL LEAVE A MESSAGE. Then you can listen to the VM, compose yourself and call the number on the back of you bank card. Calling a bank back after 1 minute if it is legit will NOT change the outcome of whatever situation it is. Never heard of a situation where the bank said because you didn't pick up the phone the very moment we called you but returned a call 2 minutes later, your money is all gone.

People also need to activate their bank apps so that everytime there is a transaction, you get an alert. Another thing that helps is not keeping so many accounts. I closed all my credit cards and am only using one for everything. I note on my budget everything i know will be getting charged to that card that month. And if someone does call "from your bank" ask what's it about and hang up and call the banks customer service number and make an inquiry.

The OTHER problem with Zelle: Prior to Zelle, if someone gained online access to your accounts, they could only immediately send money to external linked accounts that YOU OWN. To send money to themselves, they would have to somehow create a new external account AS YOU, and then create an external link to that account, which takes 2-3 days, and then ACH your money to that account, which takes another 2-3 days. Those 4-6 days gave you TIME to detect and block the process by contacting your bank BEFORE any money is moved. Zelle completely removes that safeguard because the Zelle allows the impostor to IMMEDIATELY send money to ANYONE. The only safeguard that Zelle provides is a daily limit set by the bank (currently usually $3,500 or less, but banks keep raising this amount). My advice: Keep most of your money in a bank that doesn't offer Zelle (or any similar system), and only keep money that you are willing to lose in your bank that offers Zelle (or any similar system).

Don't answer phone calls with unknown numbers, don't open emails that look sketchy, know the credit union would never send requests by email. At least check in with your credit union/back before you agree to, or follow through with any transaction involving your money. Just so you know, ppl can find your name and DOB from social media. It's not that hard. Ppl post a lot of things. Just like posting bday pics will tell ppl when your bday is and then all the have to do is get the year by back tracking your age which can be listed on other things like a resume or what not. Plus, ppl can kinda determine if you're someone who is worth the scam by what you post. I see some pics of ppl, and I'm like you look like you have $$ to burn so that will def make scammers come after you. It's also why I keeps my social ghetto AF. 😅 And FYI, your account number is on your check. This is why I don't use written check if I can help it.

As weird as it sounds.....the REAL rules for some of these businesses sometimes seem just as bizarre! (Cashiers saying they can't refund X until they do Y and then transfer it to Z, or restaurants saying you can't order a hamburger that way, but they can bill you for this other thing and "add" whatever to make the sandwich you want) People constantly have to come up with tricks to do what they need on computers....I have watched so many transactions done in such odd ways.....just to get the math to work. I think we are all fed up with HOW they credit us, just that they DO credit us. These thieves are just taking advantage of our trusting nature.....which is horrible, because one day all the trust in the world will be wiped out....i don't want to see that world.

First, the Con Edison has failed to prove that Butler’s non-criminal consumption of a legal substance rose to the level of abuse or that Butler’s consumption of alcohol adversely affected his job performance or the public’s trust (whatever that is). Moreover, the only consequence of off-duty chemical substance abuse is that the employee will be sent for a JFE. Here, Butler was sent for a JFE on December 16, 2014 tested negative for drugs and alcohol. On December 13, 2014, Butler was purported observed by Officer Brito moving from the driver’s seat to the passenger seat a couple of hundred yards from the DWI checkpoint. Officer Brito did not testify that Butler was driving erratically or displayed other indicia of someone that was driving while impaired. The Union concedes that Officer Brito’s assumption that Butler’s actions were to avoid being identified as either a driver who had been drinking or a driver who might not have had a valid license is reasonable. It is also reasonable for Officer Brito to assume that if he could see Butler then Butler could see him. That assumption is not reasonable. Officer Brito also demonstrated his expertise and training in many facets of alcohol and drug testing but the only verified test result was the breathalyzer results. This is important because clearly Brito had an animus against Butler. Brito testified that Butler was quietly being difficult and when Brito was asked why he issued Butler a summons for refusing to test AFTER he submitted to a breathalyzer test Brito testified that Butler was walking out of the police station with a summons regardless. Butler was issued a summons that was so patently meritless that the Westchester District Attorney’s office did not even submit opposition to Butler’s motion to dismiss. (Union Exhibit “2“) The Union submits that Brito’s testimony is troubling. A police officer charged with upholding the law and who described himself as an expert in the observation of behavior under the influence of drugs and alcohol and who is also charged with knowledge of the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law issued a summons that (based on his expertise) he had to know was invalid Brito practically admitted that since Butler gave him a hard time and wasted his time that night (because he did not engage in criminal conduct), he was going to give Butler a hard time. That hard time translated into the issuance of an invalid summons that forced Butler to retain counsel and utterly wasted the time of the Court that dismissed the summons that the Westchester County determined unworthy of opposition.
