Dōgen Zenji (道元禅師; also Dōgen Kigen 道元希玄, or Eihei Dōgen 永平道元, or Koso Joyo Daishi) (19 January 1200 -- 22 September 1253) was a Japanese Zen Buddhist teacher born in Kyōto, and the founder of the Sōtō school of Zen in Japan after travelling to China and training under the Chinese Caodong lineage there. Dōgen is known for his extensive writing including the Treasury of the Eye of the True Dharma or Shōbōgenzō, a collection of ninety-five fascicles concerning Buddhist practice and enlightenment.

Japan is a genius once lost to Zen.Even at Zenji in the same town, it is still unknown and still passed down.

Less words, less thinking and more feeling. zen/buddhism can only be experienced. Not explained, not understood. Only realized. let silence be your teacher.

Everyone is already fulfilled, they are valid, they express themselves in their infinite purpose, infinite meaning. It is the Void, the Tao, the Spirit, The Universe, God, We are all connected by this universal energy that animates all living beings, consciousness, A never ending sea of emptiness, formless energy that allows all creation to happen, Our progression is not forward, but a return to this source, the return to the eternal. Be the eternal you, the you, you have always been.

Returning to our true nature, through reconnecting with our eternal selves, all attachments fade away, pursuits of pleasure, sin and self gratification is realized as futile. Awareness illuminates the demons within, illuminates the impulsive thoughts, illuminates the self image, and in that awareness, you realize your capability to let go of all false labels, we realize our independence from the external world. All false self image disappears, all suffering slowly ends.

@ lamthegreen .. yes, the way is within. however, the esoteric teaching of vedanta (the ajatavada doctrine of advaita) meets utterly the same insight as zen. ie "there is no liberation, no one to be liberated."

by "saying" it, or conceptualizing the abstraction, you are essentially "doing" that which your seeking to avoid.

JU ching or zen master rujing said dropping body and mind is the true way . But what about sexuality ? what about the passion for for emmission of semen ? The great teaching of Tantra says no matter how long you sit if you donot stop emmission of semen during sex you are doomed . who is correct the teaching of zen or tantra ?

I agree, we should enjoy this fleeting moment whiles it lasts, but as it passes, we must let it go.

I cannot say who is correct and who is not, but surely you will never find peace until you give up all that you desire in this world. Bodhidharma once said, "The nature of the Way is detachment."

@123ertr All I'm saying is you should be wise about you desires. If you constantly seek pleasure or gratification from the external world, then you will never find inner peace. When the Buddha set out on his path, he tried to cut through the old traditions of the Vedas and the Tantras and seek his own path, his own way to enlightenment. The Buddha always said, "Do not believe anything anyone tells you, unless it agrees with you own ethics and your own reason."
