Zen U seems more like a reactive ball compered to even UC3 which has more mild backend motion. UC3 has been my go-to first ball off the bag for pretty much any sport condition now for couple of months, drilled it pin down with MB slightly right of thumb hole (not sure of the layout numbers 😅) and I can play straighter than with my ''true'' reactive balls.

Very educational. I am glad you compare these bowling balls in a sports pattern, and not house. I know now what to get and use. The shirt is awesome!

How much longer before we get a review on the new Purple Hammer Reactive? I would like to see that compared to the Purple Hammer.

It’s funny how a lot of people complain here in Memphis along with other places and get mad then try and tell people how they can’t throw urethane on a house shot. I know people hate when the shot changes and they don’t know how to adjust to urethane when the oil pushes down the lane. The main thing I tell people is it goes both ways. First it depends on who is throwing the urethane. You have some people who just think it’s best to throw it when the lanes dry up all the time and who don’t know what they’re doing sometimes then others who throw it on sports/Pba shots when it makes more sense to throw it vs on a modified house shot knowing it will be out of control and hooking too much. Lastly just like reactive balls, urethane ones these days hook wayyyyyy more and have new covers and cores vs the old days and a lot of times the oil isn’t able to stay on the lane a lot with today’s aggressive equipment unless it’s like a flat or long pattern with thick oil vs thin oil.

If you complaining about Urethane on a house shot I got 3 words, Get Over It. Learn to play through it.

The TAT in Vegas starting July 2 is 37’ and nearly 28 mL. Would Purple Hammer and Zen U be a good combo?

Incredible comparison JR. This told me a ton!

So the thing I see with the UC3 is that the UC3 does not react like true urethane. Maybe I’m alone in this, but I’ve never had a UC3 hook at my ankle like true urethane can do.

In the end would you ever throw a urethane from that deep? You would likely go reactive from that deep. I’m definitely adding a ZenU for nationals.

Would recommend the zen u over the purple hammer for a lower rev rate bowler(300-315)?

I have thrown the purple hammer and the UC3. I’m not sure anything out there is better than the purple with its stability on short patterns. Besides why would you want a urethane or reactive on clean backends with a pronounced move?

After 6 months with my UC-3 I've become very disillusioned. When I first had it, it hooked a ton. Within a dozen games it calmed way down and became very controllable, I loved it and was scoring consistently in the mid to upper 600's, compared to my usual average of just over 200. Next thing to happen is that it's dying by the latter part of game 2, won't carry the 10, and I have to pull out my old Sure Lock. The ball is thoroughly cleaned after every session and scuffed with 1000 grit abralon. Has anyone else experienced this? I've never had a ball act like this.

I mean its obviously not the ball returns fault, but it takes a kick better than my teammate after a bad shot

Problem I’m seeing with these modern urethane balls is that they’re so strong, there’s almost no difference between them and reactive balls. I prefer the smoother less reactive urethane balls from years ago

Sorry if I sound like a know-it-all ass, but it doesn't really seem like a whole lot of thought went into this video. Yes, urethane is good on short patterns *IF* it's a urethane with a low flaring core that will cause the ball to roll over its own oil rings when it hits the dry, thereby smoothing out the intense overreaction you would normally see at the end of the pattern. Throwing juiced up urethanes like these with cores that flare enough to cause ring separation on a short pattern is the epitome of dumb. They flare in the oil, then fresh coverstock touches the dry boards at the end of the pattern, and the balls go screaming left. Duh. These balls need to be thrown on at least a medium length pattern to show what they're capable of.

Lucas,Maybe not, theres a pretty large volume of oil on some short patterns , as far as thought put in I think he does a nice job on it so I have to disagree with your comment.

@@bowlingdj300 More important than how much oil, is "where" it lies.

@@bowlingdj300 haha dont know how the Star Wars reference came into it :P Look, it is hard to calculate that kind of thing, but consider this : what is harder ? A 30ml 5 to 1 ratio pattern or a 24ml 1 to 1 pattern ? ;) If there is a small amount of oil, you play with weak pearls, urethanes, speed, even weak dull solids etc. If there is a lot of oil, you bring out the heavy oil balls. Not a huge issue. But if the oil is situated in a way that you have no room for error, then that is a big problem :)
