Zenith Defy El Primero 21 Skeleton Review - Impressive High Horology 

Zenith is probably the most underrated luxury watch brand. I'd pick an El Primero over a Daytona any day.

Buy a Rolex, impress others. Buy a Zenith, Impress yourself.

For the money, this might be the best chronograph on the market today.

I would spend most of my day just staring at that watch.

The best anti-counterfeit detractor? Build a movement that defies traditional watchmaking. Take that you counterfeiters!

I love the Defy El Primero! It's definitely my favorite Genta/Genta-like watch by FAR.

This is one of the best watch reviews out there with the most beautiful shots I have seen to accompany the voice. Shots are all focused showing great aspects of the watch and very informative. Totally appreciate it. Coming from Omega Speedmaster Professional, I'm torn between Zenith El Primero 1969 and Defy 21... Do I want a classic timeless piece or a breakthrough?

Bruce, your work is exceptional, as always. The videography is amazing, and the level of detail is spot on for a fairly new watch enthusiast like myself. After many years as a car nut, I appreciate the precision tolerances, levers, gears, springs, design elements and performance of watches. You, along with Teddy, Jenni and a few others in particular, have cost me a good bit of $ so far…and watching your videos tells me it’s going to cost me much more in the future. Thanks, and keep up the good work.

There is a skeleton I'd love to get in my closet!

I took a closer look at this piece recently and it’s incredible on both the strap and the bracelet. I think they’ve added easy switching functionality in recent years with a push button and twin lever engagement. The dial in deep blue just looks awesome and from the far off future. Defy indeed. The only jaw dropper is the asking price and the paultry 2 year warranty - although this is 3 years online with one free full service. Some stores are offering a 4 year interest free deal to soften the blow of that asking price. But it’s a thing of beauty.

Well i have to say Zenith is underrated for sure, their design and movements are really top notch dont know why its not one of the collectible piece. Price goes down very quickly the moment you walked pout of the Zenith store. I will purchase this particular defy21 once i sold my AP Royal Oak. Cheers good job reviewing it man.

Hey nice review from a year ago, thank you Bruce. Jenni did a review of this recently, so after watching it, I did a search and wow, Bruce Williams did one a year ago. Not crazy about Chronographs, not crazy about skeletons. But know what? It works, I like the whole thing, especially how it's intricate and masculine looking at the same time. Well done, Zenith.

Ya know, when I first saw this piece on another channel I didnt really like the looks. Then as he went more into it and I learned about the engineering that went into this masterpiece I started to appreciate it more, THEN the looks started to grow on me. Now I love it all around. What a beast of a masterpiece! Id love to see one in person, I bet they're astonishing.

It is an amazing "looking" piece. Of course, anyone would love to have one... or 10 ha ha ha however, i think this watch is an art piece because to serve as a watch watch, it is very difficult to read the time, specially old guy like me. thanks for the review, Bruce. again, Awesome watch.

Zenith is a great brand and im really supporting which direction they are trying to push this brand into, it seems like they wanna make hublot style modern mechanical watches and nothing is wrong with that imo because thats what the future design of watches looks like

this is why we love mechanical watches, we can see the work, the real wheel, screw, teeth, spring... of the movement doing a complicated stuff !!

The only small problem with this particular watch is ….. I’d rather have the ultra violet ( purple ) version however annoyingly the purple variant isn’t available on a bracelet but I’m guessing one could be purchased for it .

Rotor spins cause its uni directional wind rotor, when it spins out like that it doesn't wind the spring. Note its not to do with the density of the metal

Technically astounding watch and beautiful to wear and behold. I was gob-smacked the first time I saw it. Zenith has been an under-rated and below the radar manufacturer for many status seekers. Great observation on the indices and I learned something new, that lightning second hand obviates the use of a tachymetre.

Im so torn between the skeletonized Zenith watches and the Omega Speedmaster Professional. I can honestly see the use for some cases of how accurate the Zenith chronograph is. I'm a mechanical engineering student and sometimes you want to be as accurate as possible and something like that would help a lot I would imagine.

This is the level of technology, design, and durability I expect from a $10,000 watch. In that way, it is high value and I'd get it in a heartbeat if I had the money. It is far higher value in my opinion than Rolex.

Its good to buy other brands at the moment specially that everyone wants unobtainable rolex SS model unless you buy a combo deal. This is a high horology piece of art on wrist. I donno how useful that complication in real life It would be more useful with 12hrs atleast you can time your parking.

Beautiful piece and cheaper than some of the Rolex stainless steel sports watches.

the watch certainly isn't for everybody it's meant for a man with thick bones and a heavy rest like myself it's perfect for me and the size of the strap is perfect it is not too wide perhaps if you have skinny wrists yes

In reality that 30 min. Counter as a Chronographs is useless in real life so you buy this kind of piece bcoz you admire the high horology side of it.

thing is, the design, the strap is too wide, looks cumbersome, and the design looks like someone was told to look at an AP Royal Oak and a RM and merge the two designs. And when you compare this El P to its Tag and Hublot brothers, it all gets a bit confusing. Sorry to be harsh, the design will appeal to some people and of course the build quality is fantastic.
