Beating the game without dying or glitching out of bounds. Technically the world first was a few days before this, but technical difficulties caused the video to be split in two. -- Watch live at / zorsstream
“What? Someone else has passed the trials and made it to the fountain already? Who are you, brave warrior?” “Uh, YOUR SON?” “My... son? No, my boy was far too weak to brave these treacherous halls. I, the greatest warrior of the kingdom, took weeks, if not months. My son would barely survive the first room.” “Months? It took me, like, an hour.” “Im-Impossible! You must’ve received the skill and luck of the gods! The challenges were designed for the mightiest of warriors!” “I mean yeah, they were tough, but as long as I don’t stand still, I’d be fine.” “...” “Wait, you’re telling me you struggled? So much for ‘greatest dad/Knight’.” “...Draw your blade, boy.”
-Why do you wish to fight me? How many son and dau... -Hey pops! Momma said you went to buy cigarettes, let's go back home. -Ho-ho-how in the hell did you!? Too bad no special dialogue or scene was included for a bravery and skilled person like you was done... you're just amazing!
It would have been cute if they had included an Easter Egg for winning on the first character. "What? But... How did you get here? You must be amazingly skilled. I expected, if anything, one of my many great grandchildren to slay me, but you have defied all expectations!"
"Why do you wish to fight me...son? How much you lost on the way here, in attept of vengeance?" "It was the king, Lee, who brought ruin to our country, not me!" "He lied. He said he was mortally wounded. That he needed a cure. I simply found that it was time threatening him!" "It is then i chose the only option left: reject the king, and his country..." "...For the new family..." "...sorry..."
"Why do you wish to fight me? How many sons and daughters have been lost in your pathetic attemptes at revenge? -IDK, huuu none lol STFU -What? -YOU ARE MY FATHER!!! -NOOOOOOOOO!"
Bailey Humphreys You realize just because something is harder doesn't mean it's not hard. If that were the case dark souls would be the only modern hard game to come out.
"None, Daaaaad! You came in the castle like an hour ago, I'm here to kick your ass!" Well technically he spent perhaps a few weeks in the castle, if you read all the journals, but it's still funny. I wish there was some more dialog if you beat the game like you did. He sees his very own son make it, a journey that took him a week or two, his son partook in just a few hours if that. He realizes his son has surpassed him, but he will live forever and if he slays his son, there is none to challenge his rule. We know he slayed the king because he realizes he would never be king - the king, his father, would live forever.
Nicely done, this answers my question on your other speedrun video if it can be done without glitches lol! It's funny that when you go to Johanes it reels a bunch of portraits as if you've died and those are the ancestors... But aren't you technically Johannes or Johannes direct descendant?!
Balgore8 yeah the story goes that the first person you play as is johans son or daughter venturing through the castle in order to avenge the king by killing johans.
As someone who achieved Thanatophobia before, I'm proud to be the first viewer and commenter for this video. Top stuff dude. You've mastered Rogue Legacy. :)
I beat 3 bosses, couldn't slime man after 20 hours of total gameplay so I gave up. I'm seeing this 2 years later and I'm newly inspired. Time to try again
Very cool, I'm going for Thanatophobia right now on the Xbox One version, and it made me wonder if there had been people who've done no death runs. Interesting to see.
Would be nice if they had thought of people potentially being able to clear in one run, so the end sequense was different - well, besides there being no castle that is.
May I ask how he can moonwalk (step back while still attacking in the opposite direction without using dash) like that??? I have beaten the game, but if I had known how to do that it would have been much quicker (I'm on PC though-and the horror of the control!!!!)
I'm a bit late, but once you attack you are locked to face that direction during your attack animation even moving "backwards", there is a trait in the game that allows you to turn around even during your attack animation.
This run is amazing, no doubt. But I have to say, I hope that when the devs patch the recent bugs, they also fix breakables from respawning... it seems totally unintended to me. It might immortalize this run for a super long time, and make it patch specific, but I just don't see why any run should consider reloading and grinding lamps a strategy.
The devs have known that the breakables in special rooms and boss rooms respawn since the game was released. If it wasn't intended I assume it would have been changed in one of the many patches. Eventually I hope to do this run in under an hour, without needing to heal up off of breakables.
I think he was hoping for random strength stat boost, even though the chance is VERY small, even on silver chests. Not even sure, you can get stat boosts on normal chests actually. However, he picked the gold from the chests, which i find pointless, in a no death run :P
I recently got Rogue Legacy 2, and was about to give it a try, and I thought "gee, I wonder if the devs ever planned for somebody beating the first one without ever dying?" and a bit of googling landed me here. You are damn good at this!
It feels like, that if you didn't pick the gold from the chests and didn't get so many blueprints from normal chests the first part of the run, you could have had sub 1 hour :P ...Of course it wouldn't save enough time for that, but just pointing it out though (:
